In the final moments of Brandon Bernard’s life, before he was executed by lethal injection at a federal penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Dec. 10, 2020, President Donald Trump picked up the phone to entertain a final plea for mercy on Bernard’s behalf. The call was not with Bernard’s family or his attorneys. Nor was it with representatives from the Justice Department’s Pardon Attorney office, who had recommended just days earlier that Trump spare Bernard’s life.
Rather, the call was with Jamal Fincher Jones, better known as Polow da Don,...

Polow da Don says he’s grateful for the renewed attention given to his track “Glamorous,” after it was sampled by Jack Harlow on his number-one hit “First Class,” but the superstar producer says his latest project is all about moving the culture forward.
“Number one again? That’s great,” the producer told Rolling Stone at the launch party for his new spirits brand, YoCo Vodka. “When I heard it,...

“There’s alternative, Triple-a and pop. So why can’t there be pop-country and country-country?” Nikki Lane once wondered to Rolling Stone Country. “We just need two genres.”
With a new playlist, Spotify is hoping to answer that call. Indigo, launching Tuesday, will be the streaming giant’s conduit for “country-country” — where artists like Tyler Childers, Margo Price, John Moreland, and Lane, who rarely see the light of day on terrestrial country radio, will find a home. Indigo will also boast classics like Waylon Jennings and album cuts from major...

Last week, a new radio station went on the air in Nashville with a premise that’s at once wildly radical and painfully obvious.
Instead of imagining country radio as an episode of The Bachelorette — 25 guys, one woman — set on a gated island, Wycz envisions the format as something far more flexible and receptive. The station is willing to play women: Kacey Musgraves twice in an hour, while she can’t buy airtime elsewhere. And Wycz is happy to exist in open dialog with other musical formats, cheerfully playing R&b and rap,...

During the summer of 2010, Iggy Azalea lived free of charge in a guest house in Los Angeles, courtesy of Polow Da Don. As the producer behind Fergie’s biggest hits, he saw Iggy as the second coming and wanted to groom her into a pop star. But Iggy had a much different vision—she wanted to be a hardcore rapper.

Limp Bizkit is "Ready To Go" with the first single off their forthcoming album, "Stampede of the Disco Elephants." The track features Lil Wayne and is produced by Polow Da Don. The first verse has Fred Durst spitting lyrics he has probably been waiting to "sing" for a while, particularly a special nod to his rumored ex-flame, Britney Spears. (Note: The video above contains language that may not be suitable for sensitive listeners.)
Here is a sample of the lyrics:
"Back is the mother f***in' rock god. I'm so poker face, ladies goin' gaga. TThat's right it's Freddy D, the public enemy. You know the one that had Britney droppin' to her knees. I don't give a f***, I probably never will. B**** get at me if that a** is like Jessica Biel. ...Baby you're a rock star -- I know who the f*** I am. Forty million records later,...

Yesterday, Beyoncé released a new song without a press release, public announcement or even a warning. Why? Because she's the No. 1 chick and "don't need no hype" (she'll tell you as much herself). "Bow Down / I Been On" is actually more like two songs, with the attention grabbing first half (where Queen B growls, "Bow down, bitches") produced by Hit Boy and Planet 6 and the second, arguably less-Beyoncé-ish "I Been Down," produced by Timbaland, Polow da Don, Sonny Digital and The-Dream. The pitched-down section of the song allows Bey to get all #ratchet while rapping about smacking tricks and her dookie braids in a male-esque voice. It's not a...
