I never imagined that Denis Villeneueve’s Sicario would become a franchise, but here we are. It’s been six years since the release of the first sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, but the door is still open for Sicario 3.
Despite previously expressing doubt that Sicario 3 would ever get made, Josh Brolin now seems a little more optimistic. While chatting with The Playlist, Brolin indicated that the project is a little further along. “We are—we’re closer. Yes,” Brolin said. “Molly Smith, who is a really good friend, who is one of the producers of that on Black Label—I said something. I said, ‘It’s never gonna happen!’ and it kind of went everywhere. And she was very reactive, which I appreciated. I appreciate reaction. They’re very much focused on wanting it to happen, but we won’t let it happen until there’s...

A third “Sicario” film is on the horizon.
Producers Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill confirmed to Collider that a script is almost complete, albeit without publicly revealing who the screenwriter is nor the director. However, “Mission: Impossible” franchise helmer Christopher McQuarrie and original “Sicario” screenwriter-slash-“Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan will both be involved in a third installment.
“We don’t know who’s going to direct yet. It’s all gonna be about timing,” producer Smith said. “We’ve got obviously a wealth of great partners on it, everybody from Taylor Sheridan to Chris McQuarrie as a partner on it, but it’ll all be about the timing and what aligns with everyone’s schedule.”
McQuarrie and Sheridan have not publicly been confirmed as producers.
Luckinbill added that Sheridan is “so busy” with his other project but that he “stays close” to the budding “Sicario 3.”

The creatives behind the gritty Mexican cartel movies, Sicario and Sicario: Day of the Soldado, have gone on to bigger things with Denis Villeneuve working on Dune Part Two and Taylor Sheridan pumping out show after show on Paramount+. Recently it’s been reported that the producers are interested in bringing back Emily Blunt to rejoin Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin for the third installment in the series, “Our idea is to get the cast back together with Benicio, Emily, and Josh, and we’ve got a great story to tell…Benicio, by nature of just working with us most recently, has been probably the closest to it at the moment.”
While the producers, Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill, have their casting intentions, they have yet to find someone who will definitively sit in the director’s chair. However, they did reveal an interesting big-budget name who is involved...

The Sicario franchise, which started with the critically acclaimed 2015 film directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Taylor Sheridan, is set to continue with a third installment. However, the details about the plot, the cast, and the director are still unknown. What we do know is that Christopher McQuarrie, the writer and director of the Mission: Impossible series, will be involved in some capacity with Sicario 3.
McQuarrie’s name was revealed by producers Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill in an interview with Collider1. They said that McQuarrie is a partner on the project, but did not specify what his role will be. McQuarrie has been working with Tom Cruise for over a decade, writing and directing films such as Jack Reacher, Edge of Tomorrow, and three Mission: Impossible movies. He is currently busy with the next Mission: Impossible film, which is expected to resume production in Australia soon.

Now that we know that Sicario 3 is as close as ever to happening, producers Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill are hoping – just as much as fans – to bring back the original three stars from the 2015 original, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin and Emily Blunt.
Speaking with Collider, Smith stated that a primary goal for Sicario 3 is to bring back the trio, although only one of whom is considered close to the project at this point. “Our idea is to get the cast back together with Benicio, Emily, and Josh, and we’ve got a great story to tell…Benicio, by nature of just working with us most recently, has been probably the closest to it at the moment.”
Still, those behind Sicario 3 are keeping the aforementioned stars abreast, despite the roadblocks that the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike and the recently settled WGA strike set in place. “But we’re keeping all the talent informed.

A third "Sicario" movie still seems to be in the works, and according to an interview producers recently gave Collider, there's a good chance it'll get the original band back together. Producers Trent Luckinbill and Molly Smith spoke to the outlet about the potential third film, revealing that their idea for it involves not just Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin's characters (who both appeared in the less fully embraced sequel "Sicario: Day of the Soldado" in 2018), but also Emily Blunt's, who hasn't been seen since the 2015 original.
"Our idea is to get the cast back together with Benicio, Emily, and Josh, and we've got a great story to tell," Smith told Collider. The last time audiences saw Blunt's FBI special agent Kate Macer, she was mulling over the idea of killing Del Toro's Alejandro, a CIA-trained assassin who oversaw the team's cartel-catching mission and went...

It’s been five years since the release of Sicario: Day of the Soldado, but fans are still waiting for Sicario 3 to come around and complete the trilogy. While some haven’t been optimistic that it will happen, including franchise star Josh Brolin, others are more hopeful.
In fact, Sicario producers Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill recently told THR that Sicario 3 is “very close” to happening.
“We’re very close,” Smith said. “As Trent just mentioned, it’s one of the projects where we’re ready to put the train on the tracks as soon as the strike ends and our path is cleared. So we’re very excited to get that whole band back together. Taylor [Sheridan] always envisioned it as a trilogy, so we have to close it out right. There’s no point in making it unless we can do justice to the true fans of Sicario.

Black Label Media, consisting of sisters Molly and Rachel Smith and twin brothers Trent and Thad Luckinbill, have returned to the screen with their calling card: a Benicio Del Toro-led crime thriller.
The independent production and finance company, most known for producing the Sicario films and co-financing La La Land, is set to release Grant Singer’s Reptile this Friday on Netflix, and it’s another example of Black Label’s commitment to preserving mid-budget films, as well as genres that are less prioritized now by the major studios.
Knowing how Del Toro works from their previous two Sicario films, Black Label teamed him up early with Reptile co-writer/director Singer and co-writer Benjamin Brewer, so that he didn’t have to present his own rewrites and suggestions during production. And due to the pandemic shutdown, the added collaboration time has now resulted in Del Toro’s first co-writing credit on a feature film.

The first photos from writer/director Grant Singer’s Reptile give away nothing about the story, but that’s the point. “I think the movie will be exciting to people who like to watch something where you don’t know where it’s leading you, where a film is going to have twists and turns and deceive you. Some of “Devotion” director Jd Dillard’s earliest memories are of the rumbling of F/A-18 jet engines.
“It’s quite abstract,” Dillard tells Variety over Zoom, recounting his sense memories of being about four years old, toddling around the Blue Angels headquarters in Pensacola, Fla. The filmmaker’s father, Bruce Dillard, was stationed there after becoming the second African American to fly with the Navy flight demonstration squadron.
“I remember shapes. I remember the nose of an F-18,” Dillard continues. ”I remember the little pylons that hold up the railing next to the entrance, the smell of the wax that they clean the planes with, and the noise that rumbles your chest.”
A few weeks ago, as part of the promotion for “Devotion” — which tells the story of the unbreakable bond forged between elite Navy aviators and Korean War heroes Ensign Jesse L. Brown (Jonathan Majors) and Lt. Thomas Hudner...

The second trailer for the upcoming Whitney Houston biopic, "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," dropped today, and we've already got goosebumps. Directed by the brilliant Kasi Lemmons, this celebration of one of the greatest vocalists to ever walk the earth is the latest biopic from the producers who created the Academy Award-winning film about Freddie Mercury, "Bohemian Rhapsody." Whitney Houston's life has been at the center of public speculation for decades, and her untimely death only exacerbated tabloid obsessions. Fortunately, based on everything we know about "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," Lemmons' film starring Naomi Ackie is an empathetic look at the woman remembered as "The Voice."
The new trailer intercuts footage from the film against the sound of Whitney Houston belting out "I Will Always Love You," a surefire way to pull on the emotional heartstrings of anyone watching. There are shots of crowds cheering her name, Oprah Winfrey introducing her to an audience,...

Naomi Ackie’s greatest challenge of all? Transforming into the “Greatest Love of All” singer Whitney Houston.
BAFTA award winner Ackie stars as the late icon for musical biopic “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” in theaters December 21. The film, written by Oscar-nominated “Bohemian Rhapsody” screenwriter Anthony McCarten and directed by Kasi Lemmons, charts Houston’s life and legacy, starting with her groundbreaking record deal with Clive Davis, played by Stanley Tucci.
“My dream: Sing what I want to sing, be who I want to be,” Ackie as Houston says in the trailer. While Houston is criticized for not being “Black enough” and her tumultuous marriage to Bobby Brown (Ashton Sanders) makes headlines, the biopic focuses on her early days as a New Jersey choir girl who became the bestselling and most awarded recording artist of all time. The “no-holds-barred portrait” gives a never-before-seen look at Houston’s “complicated and multi-faceted” career.

Director Jd Dillard says he grew up hearing all about his own father’s experiences as the second African American Blue Angels pilot, so naturally when Adam Makos’ book Devotion came out he was instantly intrigued about adapting it to the screen. The book tells the story of the friendship and, yes, devotion (where the title comes from in part) of two elite U.S. Navy fighter pilots who made a big difference in one of the Korean War’s most intense battles in the early 1950s. But the story has great significance as it really tells the extraordinary tale of Jesse Brown, who became the first Black aviator in Navy history, and together with his unique friendship and working relationship with Tom Hudner the pair became legend as authentic Navy wingmen heroes.

Based on the nonfiction book by Adam Makos, “Devotion” focuses on the military careers of Jesse Brown (Majors) and Tom Hudner (Powell), two elite Navy fighter pilots who served during the Korean War. Along with Majors and Powell, “Devotion” also stars Christina Jackson, Joe Jonas and Thomas Sadoski. J.D. Dillard directs the film from a screenplay by J.D. Dillard from a screenplay by Jake Crane and Jonathan A. H. Stewart. Derek Kolstad, the screenwriter behind the “John Wick” series, is collaborating with Davis Entertainment, Black Label Media and Gunpowder & Sky’s Dust for an adaptation of the South Korean short film “Time Agent.”
Written and directed by Jude Chun, “Time Agent” was originally released by Dust in 2018 and follows an agent who travels to the past to save the future, by making barely-perceptible yet very influential alterations to the timeline. During his mission, he must live in complete isolation, which suits the solitary agent until he runs into a girl about to commit suicide and accidentally saves her life.
“From the moment I saw the short, I recognized a vast and unexplored world hidden within the initial concept eager to be fully realized,” Kolstad said. “Thankfully, the imaginative teams at Gunpowder & Sky and Davis Entertainment saw the potential too, and shared a similar vision for it. Dude, I’m...
