No matter where one falls on the political spectrum, there is no denying that George H.W. Bush dedicated his life to his country.
The life and career of the 41st U.S. president are recalled in "41," a documentary premiering on HBO Thursday, June 14, two days after his 88th birthday. The film, directed by Jeffrey Roth ("The Wonder of It All") and executive produced by longtime Bush family friend Jerry Weintraub, follows the former chief executive around his summer home in Maine and presidential library in Texas as he reflects on the events of his life in his own words.
"He was in a life of service," Weintraub tells Zap2it. "He never felt it was an imperial presidency; it was never something that was ordained or supposed to be. He went from job to job to job, and that job was the next job."
At different times, Bush, a decorated...

Yesterday, HBO announced it would be premiering "41," a documentary about the life of 41st President George H. W. Bush "in his own words" from his summer home in Kennebunkport, Me, on June 14th to commemorate the man's 88th birthday, two days before. Indiewire spoke to executive producer Jerry Weintraub (of "Nashville," "The Karate Kid," the "Ocean's Eleven" remake and many more films) for a few minutes about where the film came from. Weintraub was the subject of his own HBO doc last year -- the Emmy-nominated "His Way," from director Douglas McGrath. Was this a project that you initiated yourself? No, this is a project from a young filmmaker by the name of Jeffrey Roth. He made a film about some astronauts [2007's "The Wonder of It All"] and sent it to President [George H. W. Bush]. And the President invited him to come say hello, so he went to Kennebunkport, met...

Unlike most presidents, George H.W. Bush has not published a memoir since leaving office. That's about to change, sort of: On June 14 -- just two days after Bush celebrates his 88th birthday -- the HBO documentary "41" will debut.
Written and directed by Jeffrey Roth and produced by Jerry Weintraub, "41" -- named as such because Bush was the 41st president -- will detail the former president's Zelig-like personal life. Bush served in World War II, was U.S. envoy to China, the director of the CIA and Vice President of the United States. Still, don't think "41" is strictly political.
"This is not a political documentary," Weintraub told HuffPost Entertainment. "This is a documentary about the man and his family and where he came from. He's 88 years old on June 12. It's a great time in his life to do something like this and it's in his words."

As politicians go, George H.W. Bush is a fairly private person. Unlike Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, or even his son George W. Bush, the United States’ 41st president has never written an autobiography or memoir — though Bush did publish a volume filled with personal letters, diary entries, and memos in 2000.
But come June, we’ll get an inside look at Bush’s story. Reuters writes that the former president is the subject of an upcoming HBO documentary, aptly named 41. In the doc, Bush reflects on his life thus far, including his experiences as an aviator in World War II, his...
