Well, it's probably better to be disappointed now than at the Belmont Stakes.
The 136th running of the Preakness took place Saturday, May 21, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, and Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom came up just short of a victory.
Shackleford, trained by Dale Romans and ridden by Jesus Castanon, took the title, after dominating nearly the entire race. With 12-1 odds, the horse was a decided underdog.
Following Animal Kingdom's second-place spot was Astrology in third and the second-most-favored horse, Dialed In, in a disappointing fourth.
There hasn't been a Triple Crown winner since Affirmed took all three races in 1978.
