NCIS is a successful series with multiple spinoffs that have entertained viewers for over two decades. The first international venture -- NCIS: Sydney -- takes viewers to a different continent with a new cast and intriguing scenarios.
The first season saw extreme success, with "Gone Fission" NCIS: Sydney Season 1 Episode 1 having more viewers than any CBS premiere in streaming history. Paramount+ and CBS reported a combined 10 million viewers.
Unsurprisingly, US viewers love the Sydney spinoff as much as the Hawai'i version, which usually gets five million regular broadcast viewers. Even the original NCIS receives seven million viewers, minus streaming and other viewing methods.
But given that NCIS: Syndey takes place in Australia, it makes sense that it airs on Australian networks, too. It has become the most-watched locally produced (Australian) show aired on the Australian Paramount+ network.
Here is everything that we know about NCIS: Syndey Season 2.

Will NCIS: Sydney become a permanent fixture on CBS?
In 2023, the NCIS franchise’s first international spinoff premiered on CBS. The eight-episode series sees U.S. NCIS agents teaming up with Australian police to investigate naval crimes in the Pacific. It was originally intended to stream on Paramount+ in the U.S., but it earned a spot on the network’s fall schedule due to the actors’ and writers’ strikes.
NCIS: Sydney closed out its first season on Jan. 23. The cliffhanger episode suggested Colonel Rankin (Lewis Fitz-Gerald) might have played a role in kidnapping Sergeant Jd Dempsey’s (Todd Lasance) son. Will fans get to see how that storyline plays out? So far, NCIS: Sydney hasn’t been renewed for season 2. But it does sound like the odds of the show returning are good.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the NCIS: Sydney Season 1 finale, “Blonde Ambition.”] Would you go as far as Jd (Todd Lasance) did to get his son back? The Australian Federal Police (Afp) sergeant made a decision in the NCIS: Sydney finale that has to come back to haunt the team at some point. After his son was kidnapped — by a clown at his birthday party (a.k.a. nightmare fuel) — Jd chose to go along with the demands: a swap of a wanted criminal the team had been after all season. He also trusted “Ana” with a gun, which, after using to kill the kidnapper, she then turned on him. She did leave Jd alive, but she took his keys and the kidnapper’s gun and escaped. But Jd doesn’t regret any of what he did, given his son is alive — ...

With Part 1 of its freshman finale, NCIS: Sydney uncorked quite the callback, by revealing that the “pregnant” woman who nearly got Mackey, Evie, Blue and dozens of others suffocated to death in an old bunker was in fact the blonde spy who eluded capture at the end of the series’ pilot.
Yet while it might seem as if Special Agent Mackey (Olivia Swann), Sergeant Jim “Jd” Dempsey (Todd Lasance) et al now have the upper hand, the abduction of Jd’s son Jack, in Part 2 of the finale (airing Tuesday at 8/7c on CBS), will thoroughly and harrowingly complicate matters.

“It’s like a double-edged sword,” coming into a franchise like NCIS, says Sydney star Todd Lasance. “You’re coming in going, oh, you’re part of this amazing franchise. It’s been running forever, and that’s incredible. You feel you’re part of the family, but then two minutes later, you’re like, oh, I hope we don’t stuff this up. I hope that people switch on and then come along for the ride and respond to the characters,” he continues. That’s why he’s glad that the first international version has been a hit. And NCIS: Sydney shows no signs of slowing down, ending its eight-episode first season with a finale that puts Lasance’s Jd right at the center when his son is kidnapped — and in order to get him back, he’d have to swap the criminal that the team had been after...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the NCIS: Sydney series premiere “Gone Fission.”] NCIS has officially gone international with Sydney, the latest in the hit franchise, and right from the first episode, there are nods to the original series. The premiere introduces viewers to NCIS Special Agents Michelle Mackey (Olivia Swann) and DeShawn Jackson (Sean Sager), working alongside Afp’s Jd Dempsey (Todd Lasance), Evie Cooper (Tuuli Narkle), Bluebird “Blue” Gleeson (Mavournee Hazel), and Dr. Roy Penrose (William McInnes), as well as the members of the two agencies to each other. And let’s just say that at least one NCIS character is name-dropped in one scene and a certain set of rules strongly hinted at in another. Below, showrunner Morgan O’Neill breaks down the Easter eggs in the series premiere and what’s next in that not-so-wrapped case. Penrose asks Mackey if she’s “of the CSI,” which reminded me of the Tsa agent in...

Typically, it’s pejorative to call a series formulaic. But when it’s a franchise spin-off of one of CBS’s longest-running, most beloved dramas, the question is whether it’s faithful to the big daddy, “NCIS.” The series first premiered starring Mark Harmon as man-of-few-words and dynamic-action-hero-with-a-dark-past Leroy Jethro Gibbs on Sept. 23, 2003. It’s now celebrating its 20th anniversary; does the franchise, beloved by audiences global and domestic, still have juice?
Is the latest offspring the painful dud of “NCIS: Los Angeles” or the spry Creole-flavored “NCIS: New Orleans”? With the first four episodes available for preview, the good news is that “NCIS: Sydney” is faithful to the formula, while developing its own individual vibe at the frequently awkward intersection of American and Australian culture.

Don’t get us wrong, the Australia-set NCIS: Sydney, premiering Stateside this Tuesday on CBS, boasts a terrific cast, and one that is 66% Australian (plus two Brits).
But Sydney native and CBS procedural vet Alex O’Loughlin was right there, people. (Well, somewhere. I’m not entirely sure what he is up to these days, three-and-a-half years after the Hawaii Five-0 reboot said aloha.)

If you’re watching NFL games on CBS this Sunday and things suddenly turn upside-down, rest assured that nothing is wrong with your TV set. It’s just CBS’ promo department being a bit of a larrikin.
TVLine can exclusively report that this Sunday, Nov. 12, CBS will intentionally air its NCIS: Sydney promo spots upside down during NFL on CBS games, tying into the “Down Under” theme of the well-watched franchise’s very first international endeavor, which was filmed on location in Australia — that’s in the southern hemisphere, for those who skipped geography class — and premieres Stateside Tuesday, Nov.

NCIS has gone international. NCIS: Sydney is the latest series in the very popular franchise, and it premieres on November 14 on CBS. It sees U.S. NCIS agents and the Australian Federal Police team up to keep naval crimes in check in Sydney, with NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey (Olivia Swann) leading the task force. Her 2Ic Afp counterpart is Sergeant Jim “Jd” Dempsey (Todd Lasance). Showrunner Morgan O’Neill introduces the new team. Across procedurals, we’ve seen agencies working together, but usually, it’s just an episode or two. But you really get to explore that over the course of the series itself. What does that allow you to do? Morgan O’Neill: Being the first international version of a global franchise comes with all sorts of challenges, one of which is how you integrate it into the new country. ...

It's hard to believe the NCIS franchise is over 20 years old.
While the original series is still chugging along, NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans have sailed off into the sunset despite still being in great shape creatively.
Both spinoffs ended while there was still plenty of gas in the tank, but the franchise overlords are more interested in taking us to different locations nowadays.
NCIS: Hawai'i was a valiant effort at a more diverse spinoff with an island backdrop, and it has its quirks that have won it plentiful fans.
NCIS: Sydney, the latest entry, is a fast-paced chapter that makes up for the lack of initial chemistry between its ensemble with brilliant characterization and some of the best cases in years.
