Donald Trump’s first criminal trial promises to be one of the most heavily reported legal affairs in American history, but the former president and his defense team already think they can get away with lying about what’s happening in the courtroom.
After leaving court on Monday following the first day of jury selection, Trump repeatedly claimed that Judge Juan Merchan had barred him from attending the high school graduation ceremony of his youngest son, Barron Trump, in May.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed after a 948-foot-long container ship collided with it early Tuesday. Stunning video of the incident has circulated online, and search-and-rescue procedures are currently underway. “This is an unthinkable tragedy,” Baltimore’s Democratic mayor, Brandon Scott, said at a press conference. “We have to first and foremost pray for all of those who are impacted, those families, pray for our first responders and thank them.”

Some in the right wing appear to be suffering from Taylor Derangement Syndrome as Maga supporters and Donald Trump himself believe the NFL, Taylor Swift and NFL beau Travis Kelce are in cahoots with Democrats to win Joe Biden the presidential election. Chris Christie on Sunday dismissed the unfounded rumors as “ridiculous” and “crazy.”
“Outrageous. Ridiculous,” the former New Jersey governor and former GOP hopeful said after Meet the Press host Kristen Welker asked for his thoughts on the wild accusations. “Look, Taylor Swift is one of the great American success stories.

A majority of states have already legalized cannabis to some degree, and only some 10 percent of Americans believe it should remain prohibited in every form. Yet some Republicans have continued to oppose a decades-long effort to remove the drug from the federal list of Schedule I drugs — those considered to have “a high potential for abuse” and “no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.” And lately, we’ve started to see exactly which voters support this intransigence: religious “trad life” influencers.

As an adult-content creator with a large following on the internet, Isla David has dealt with trolls before. Usually, her work combatting online bad actors involves her trying to take down photos of herself that have been posted elsewhere without her permission, such as a photo for an ad for “horny MILFs in your area” that she’s been trying to get removed for years. But she’s also used to trolls editing her image without her consent. “They’re either subtracting clothes, editing my waist, [or] editing the size of my chest and my hips,...

Taylor Swift has shattered virtually every major record in the music industry, and as she lives her best life supporting her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, she’s also breaking the brains of right-wingers.
For months now, the digital fever swamps have been fuming over everything and anything Swift-related. Her popularity, the success of the Eras Tour, her relationship, her appearances at NFL games, and especially her politics. The Chiefs won the AFC championship on Sunday, punching the team’s (and potentially Swift’s) ticket to the Super Bowl in February.

Update: There’s a reason that attacks on Taylor Swift continued throughout the day today: She’s a celebrity guaranteed to drive web traffic, particularly to right-wing media figures advancing ever more outlandish conspiracy theories. For much of today, social media focused on figures like Jack Posobiec and Benny Johnson, who benefit from the attention even if it’s to try to discredit them.
While a Swift endorsement of Joe Biden may very well hold enough sway to be of concern to Donald Trump’s campaign, the fixation on cooking up conspiracy theories about her has more to do with what draws attention in a hyper-competitive universe of voices on the right.
Erick Erickson, the conservative commentator, wrote on X/Twitter, “Let me explain what is actually going on with these hucksters, charlatans, and grifters on the right. They don’t believe it. They hope you might believe it. They...

Since the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas militants against Israel, it’s become near-impossible to avoid images of the carnage and devastation that has befallen Israel and the Palestinians living in the besieged Gaza Strip. Online, it’s already difficult to sift through the barrage of misinformation, recycled footage from past conflicts, and contradictory narratives to ascertain what is really happening on the ground — and the emerging technology of artificial intelligence is adding a whole new layer of complexity to the problem.

Kanye West Walks Out Of Interview After Being Probed by Right-Wing Podcasters About His Antisemitism
Kanye West sat down for an interview on an episode of Timcast Irl, but left the premises before commenting on his antisemitic statements. The podcast was hosted by Holocaust denier, Nick Fuentes, alt-right commentator Milo Yiannopolous and Tim Pool.
West made little sense in his attempts to complete the interview. He said he has been getting “hosed down by the press and financially.”
“I thought I was more Malcolm X but I find out I’m more MLK,” West said.

When Jonathan Hillman was growing up in rural Wisconsin, he says he frequently felt “small.” He was a boy in a family of dirt track racers who played with Barbies, who would pull his turtleneck up over his head to make a pretend wig when he was playing with the kid down the street. Kyle Rittenhouse’s status as the new rockstar of the conservative movement was cemented on Monday, when he strode onstage at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in front of fireworks, flashing lights, a DJ scratching over his name, and, most importantly, thunderous applause from the young people in attendance.
“Kyle! Kyle! Kyle!” the crowd chanted as he smiled and sat down alongside Charlie Kirk, Jack Posobiec, Elijah Schaffer, and Drew Hernandez for a panel titled “Kenosha on Camera.”
The discussion, as has been the case with the rest of Rittenhouse’s post-acquittal media tour,...

Right-wing darling Kyle Rittenhouse, the teen acquitted of murder for killing two people at a racial justice protest, sent the QAnon world into a tailspin when he said in interviews that Lin Wood, a leading QAnon believer and Trump attorney who briefly represented Rittenhouse, was “insane” and had “taken advantage” of him.
That prompted right-wing Trump allies — including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, alt-right activist Jack Posobiec and former Trump White House aide Sebastian Gorka — to come out against Wood. In response, Wood has been posting through it, making wild claims without evidence.

Both CNN and its chief international correspondent Clarissa Ward are calling out Sen. Ted Cruz for spreading what they say is a misleading and inaccurate Twitter meme showing Ward in what the conservative senator calls a burka.
Cruz today retweeted a post from right-wing conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec depicting Ward with and without a head-covering. Cruz added the comment, “Is there an enemy of America for whom @CNN Won’T cheerlead?”
Ward responded by noting, “This meme is inaccurate. The top photo is inside a private compound. The bottom is on the streets of Taliban held Kabul. I always wore a head scarf on the street in Kabul previously, though not w/ hair fully covered and abbaya. So there is a difference but not quite this stark.”
CNN’s communications team wasn’t so tactful. Responding to Cruz, the team wrote, “Rather than running off to Cancun in tough times,...

Timing is the great unknown when it comes to documentaries. Despite the filmmakers’ best efforts to capture the zeitgeist, by the time the research is done, the filming complete, the editing wrapped, and the finished product ready, the subject at hand can be long forgotten.
This is not an issue for HBO’s six part docuseries Q: Into the Storm. The series, directed by Cullen Hoback and executive produced by Adam McKay, couldn’t be arriving at a better time as it seeks to understand the QAnon phenomenon. QAnon used to be a fixation of only the most terminally online. But sometime in the last year, not coincidentally around when many QAnon adherents stormed the U.S. Capitol, the story of Q and the posters who followed him, went very, tragically mainstream.
The country has never been more primed for an all-encompassing documentary about the QAnon conspiracy theory. Unfortunately, the...

If you watch the White House press briefings with semi-regularity, you’ll likely see her there: ever-present scarf, belted trench dress, brows flawlessly filled in, piles of dark hair teased to near-Nineties Fran Drescher heights. She will always be wearing heels; she will almost never be wearing a mask. All heads will swivel as she poses her query, which could double as an excerpt from a journalism-school textbook for how not to ask a question. Does President Trump feel he is being unfairly maligned by the media for his response to the Covid-19 pandemic?...

Disney and Netflix are generally viewed as two of the most bulletproof brands in the industry that can do no wrong in the eyes of many fans, but both have found themselves caught up in a storm of recent controversy. The Mouse House are facing widespread backlash for Mulan‘s connections to a region of China linked to human rights violations, while the world’s biggest streaming service are under fire for releasing a movie that’s angered a whole lot of people.
Cuties is a critically acclaimed and award-winning coming-of-age drama directed by an up-and-coming filmmaker that thought she’d lucked out in a big way when her feature debut was picked up by Netflix to be distributed to over 180 million subscribers worldwide, but one misjudged poster from the marketing team has seen it become one of the most talked about titles of the year for all the wrong reasons.

A hashtag suggesting that authorities are planting bricks to bait protesters into committing violence is going viral on social media.
One image often shared with the hashtag shows a stack of bricks with a smiley face superimposed on top of it, with the message “Well howdy! I’m just a mysterious ol’ pile of bricks.”
“Do not reach for me! I am intentionally placed here to create violence,” the image, which has also made the rounds on Instagram, says. “This is used to delegitimize the movement and allows for more force to be used.

Regardless of which side of the political spectrum you fall, there is no denying that President Donald Trump is a divisive figure. The conservative base adores and glorifies him, while the liberal base despises him to levels unseen in modern history. The catch is that the president enjoys the attention and uses it as ammo, which is seen quite clearly when he regularly uses pop culture memes to poke fun at or agitate liberals while bolstering the support of his largely Republican base.
And it isn’t just Trump who enjoys using this type of content, as many of his followers and other prominent political figures have been known to share in his love of stoking the fires with pop culture references. Recently, Trump’s own campaign manager, Brad Parscale, posted a tweet stating that they had been building a campaign that was “firing on all cylinders” alongside a Star Wars...

A tweet from Hillary Clinton mocking President Trump’s handling of the pandemic is drawing severe backlash from conservatives, who accuse the former Secretary of State of playing politics during a national health crisis.
“He did promise ‘America First,’ ” Clinton tweeted, referring to a phrase President Donald Trump has frequently used. Clinton linked to The New York Times’s Thursday coverage of the Us officially leading the world in confirmed coronavirus cases.
The tweet continues a two-day visibility surge by Clinton. On Thursday, she called for a two-month lockdown, continuing a Democratic party battlecry against Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday afternoon, Ohio University first-year Anya Bartek was in class when she found out that Kaitlin Bennett — a right-wing personality known as Kent State Gun Girl for posing with an Ar-10 rifle at graduation — was set to appear at her school to ask students questions about Presidents’ Day. Her boyfriend sent her a photo of a large crowd of protesters surrounding Bennett. “It was obviously a spectacle,” she tells Rolling Stone.

It’s 2003 all over again. In a throwback to the lies of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, Donald Trump and Mike Pence are spreading misinformation to justify military aggression in the Middle East.
Trump ordered the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, the head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, carried out late last week via a drone strike at Baghdad international airport. There’s no gainsaying that Soleimani was a ruthless leader who orchestrated bloody militia violence throughout the region. But the leaders of the current U.S. administration are distorting...

Hasbro is turning the tables on Monopoly in a campaign to support young women entrepreneurs — but reactions have been a mixed bag since the toy company announced the new game Tuesday morning.
The updated version of the classic board game, called “Ms. Monopoly,” is flipping the script by giving female players an advantage over male players — for every $200 Monopoly dollars men make in the game, women make $240.
The result is “the first-ever game where women make more than men,” according to Hasbro’s description — but Twitter users were quick to criticize the game Tuesday.

If we had to report every time some right-wing guy on Twitter said something moronic we’d be here all day, but sometimes someone says something so jaw-droppingly vapid that you have to sit up and pay attention.
Said someone is professional troll and Pizzagate conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec, who after seeing Captain Marvel, tweeted: “Imagine if Stan Lee saw what they’ve turned the McU into…,” with the presumed implication being that the comic book legend would be absolutely horrified that Marvel put out a movie about a female superhero.
Given that Stan Lee is actually in Captain Marvel, it’s already an utterly boneheaded thing to say. But wait, the idiocy doesn’t stop there. That’s because Lee was a famous champion of inclusion across his long, long history in the medium. This is the Stan Lee who was the child of immigrants, and who created a...

While the dust has long settled on the firing of James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the whole messy affair left a bad taste in the mouth of many of the director’s fans and associates, not least actor Dave Bautista, who continues to be one of the filmmaker’s most vocal defenders.
The director of the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies was dropped from the third installment after far-right personalities Mike Cernovich and Jack Posobiec unearthed incendiary tweets posted by Gunn prior to his involvement with Disney. In an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, Bautista describes these old posts as “gross … terrible jokes” that were written for “shock value,” but also stressed that Gunn himself “wouldn’t hurt a soul,” before calling into question Disney’s decision to cave to pressure from the far right:
