Variety reports that Marie Amachoukeli (who is at the Cartoon Movie pitch and co-production forum in Bordeaux will co-direct (with Vladimir Mavounia Kouka) Happy End sometime next year. The 2D project in the style of Max Fleischer won’t be for the kids. Variety has a three-minute promo teaser you can watch here.

"To those who haven't given up - love is resistance." Rock on with this Lebanese band! There is a beautiful animated music video made for the song "Radio Romance" by the pro-lgbt rock band Mashrou' Leila (aka مشروع ليلى in Arabic). It was made by a Paris animation studio called Mathematic, and directed by a very talented animation filmmaker named Vladimir Mavounia-Kouka (aka "Vladimir Mk"). This is not just a music video, the animated short film features a story as well. The story is about a loving couple that tries to kiss and embrace but doesn’t succeed. "A tender metaphor of a city and a world, where many love stories remain prohibited because of homophobia, xenophobia and any form of racism." Even if you don't like their music, these guys rock for being pro-lgbt in a country where that is very rare. And this is a really lovely music...

The Commissioned Films competition at the 2018 edition of the Annecy Film Festival and Mifa market will feature 31 commissioned animated short films, chosen from 417 submissions. Participating films are either music videos, commercial advertisements or educational videos, which will compete for two awards: The Annecy Cristal for a Commissioned Film and the Jury Award for a Commissioned Film.
The participating films were selected by Annecy artistic director Marcel Jean and film and programming team members: Laurent Million, Yves Nougarède, and Sébastien Sperer.
Sperer has worked for Citia, the organization which runs the festival, for two decades. He has been on the selection committee since 2013, and in a conversation with Variety explained how those years of experience have led to a simple and streamlined selection process.
“We really know the job now,” he said. “Most of the films are chosen because they are astonishing and really beautiful.”
