Controversial podcast host Joe Rogan is once again receiving backlash, this time for comments that critics have labelled “antisemitic”.
The Joe Rogan Experience host was discussing US Representative Ilhan Omar with his guests, Breaking Points co-hosts Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti, during a recent episode when he made the offending statements.
Omar was recently removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee by Republicans over accusations that she is antisemitic.
In 2019, she tweeted that Republicans wanted to condemn her comments about Israel because “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby”, a reference to Benjamin Franklin being on 100 bills. She later apologised for her comments.
“That’s not an antisemitic comment, I don’t think that is. Benjamins are money,” Rogan said on his podcast.
He continued: “The idea that Jewish people are not into money is ridiculous. That’s like saying Italians aren’t into pizza. It’s f***ing stupid.”

Kanye West has now said he likes Adolf Hitler in a shocking new interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.
Over the past month or so, West has made antisemitic statements on social media, as well as in media appearances on Fox News, the “Drink Champs” podcast and elsewhere.
Balenciaga and Adidas were among the companies to have cut ties with West in the wake of his comments.
In his latest interview, Ye insisted: “Well, I see good things about Hitler, also.
“I love everyone, and Jewish people are not gonna tell me… ‘You can love us, and you can love what you’re doing to you with the contracts, and you can love what we’re pushing with the pornography.’
But this guy that invented highways, invented the very microphone that I use as a musician — you can’t say out loud that this person ever did anything good, and I’m done with that.

Cable TV outlet Black News Channel has abruptly shut down after two years on the air, and just after hitting new viewership highs during this week’s confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson.
In a memo to employees, CEO Princell Hair cited “challenging market conditions and global financial pressures” for the decision to wind down operations, according to multiple reports. The National Association of Black Journalists, a prominent trade group, confirmed the shutdown in a blog post. It pledged to support the roughly 200 employees affected by the move.
Bnc was co-founded by former Oklahoma Congressman J.C. Watts and longtime TV executive Bob Brillante. After years of planning, the network made its debut in 2020 after billionaire Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid “Shad” Khan signed on as a partner.
The Tallahassee, Fl-based network originally launched in about 33 million households via cable and satellite and eventually got to 50 million households. But...

After months of uncertainty, Black News Channel (Bnc) is shutting down on Friday just two years after its launch.
Multiple employees told TheWrap they were notified individually that Friday would be the last day of live programming for the Tallahassee, Florida-based network. The channel was launched in February 2020 by former GOP congressman J.C. Watts and broadcast executive Bob Brillante to target Black audiences they felt were underserved by other news outlets.
One staffer said Friday department heads contacted individual employees by phone to inform them that they were being let go. “I’m disappointed in the way management handled the situation and their lack of transparency,” the staffer told TheWrap. “I’m saddened because there are so many amazing journalists who care about Black and Brown stories and truly believed in the concept. Now with no notice, their lives and livelihoods are in limbo.”

Thirteen women are suing the Black News Channel for gender discrimination, accusing the Florida-based network of unequal pay for female employees and a workplace culture that forced them “to conform to sexist or misogynistic stereotypes about how women are supposed to behave.”
In an amended complaint filed Tuesday in the Cook County, Illinois, Circuit Court, the 13 plaintiffs allege that executives at the 2-year-old network disciplined or terminated female employees for being too vocal, pushy and aggressive, created a hostile work environment for women and paid women thousands of dollars less per year than their male counterparts.
Ashley Flete, a former anchor who first filed suit with Claudia Jean last August, said that a producer had been “berating” her about being “insufficiently feminine” through her earpiece while she was on air. After filing a complaint with human resources, she said her contract was terminated six months into a two-year contract.

In his first interview in nearly two years, Jussie Smollett spoke to journalist Marc Lamont Hill about a wife range of issues connected directly, and tangentially, to his ongoing legal battle in Chicago. But while he was careful to be clear that he won’t speak about the specifics of that case — “I’m still taking the advice of my attorneys” — he did say that he isn’t sure “what staying quiet has really done.”
“It’s been beyond frustrating because to be somebody that’s so outspoken … it’s been difficult to be so quiet. Considering the wave of controversy around Russell Simmons’ appearance on “The Breakfast Club” radio show earlier this month, many people were surprised that the entrepreneur — who has been accused of sexual assault or misconduct by at least 20 women — was featured on the podcast and video series “Drink Champs,” which airs on Tidal and Revolt TV.
Following a backlash from many people online, including some of those accusers — notably Sil Lai Abrams, who has accused Simmons of sexually assaulting her in 1994 and is featured in the recent HBO documentary, “On the Record,” on the accusations against Simmons — Tidal and Revolt TV have pulled the episode from their platforms, and most social-media posts promoting it seem to have been deleted.
“What in the entire hell are Jay-Z and Tidal doing by giving Russell Simmons a platform to discuss #BlackLivesMatter?” she tweeted. “Why do people continue to give him a pass?”

CNN has been heavily promoting a special weeklong series on the rise of anti-Semitism across Europe.
Unfortunately, the PR push came at the exact same time one of its contributors, Temple University professor Marc Lamont Hill, called for an armed Palestinian “resistance” against Israel and used a known Hamas rallying cry calling for the destruction of the Jewish State during a speech at the United Nations.
On Thursday, CNN fired Hill over the issue.
“Marc Lamont Hill is no longer under contract with CNN,” a spokesperson told TheWrap.
During his remarks, Hill called for a free Palestine, “from the river to the sea,” a line which has been used repeatedly by Hamas leader Khaled Mash’al. The phrase was also used by the Palestinian Liberation Organization beginning with its founding in 1964, when it was still classified as a terror group.

Madonna was set to pay tribute to the Queen of Soul at Monday’s VMAs, but the speech seemed to be all about the Queen of Pop — Madonna herself, that is.
MTV asked Madonna to honor Aretha Franklin, who died Thursday, during her intro for the video of the year winner announcement. Most of the tribute to Franklin, however, was spent explaining the early origins of Madonna’s career. The only mention of Franklin was that Madonna sang “(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman” to — ultimately unsuccessfully — audition for a song. She credited that failure with launching her into a different opportunity that led to the rest of her career.
She added towards the end of her speech: “I want to thank you, Aretha, for empowering all of us. R-e-s-p-e-c-t. Long live the queen.”
