God. Family. Football. follows former football player and high school football coach Denny Duron, who has come out of a 30-year retirement to lead the football program he founded at Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana, back to national prominence. God. Family. Football. will feature the personal stories of Evangel’s players, coaching staff, and the broader Shreveport community set against the backdrop of the 2022 Louisiana high school football season.

Amazon Freevee has ordered the docuseries “God Family Football,” which follows ex-football player and high school football coach Denny Duron as he returns to once again coach the Louisiana-based team that he once led.
Duron has been retired for 30 years, but decides to return to Evangel Christian Academy in Shreveport, La., after the one-time high school football powerhouse fell on rough times. Once home to 14 state championships in the last 20 years, the team is now coming off its worst season in school history.
Propagate, Watershed and Ascending Media Group are behind the series, which follows Duron as he looks to teach his motto — “God first, family second, and football third” (hence the title of the series) — to a new generation.

Freeform has decided not to move forward with the dark comedy series “Pippa Smith: Grown-Up Detective” from executive producer Joss Whedon, TheWrap has learned exclusively.
Representatives for Freeform did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment on when and why the show, which had been in development at the Disney-owned cable channel since June 2018, had been scrapped. A rep for Whedon had no comment.
According to an individual familiar with the project, Whedon did not have a direct or substantial role in developing the half-hour series, which was created by comedians Siobhan Thompson and Rebecca Drysdale. The show was to center on Pippa Smith, a twentysomething who played a former kid sleuth on TV, “as she deals with relationships, addiction and being too dang old for the detecting game.” Pippa would solve a new case in every episode, “while unraveling a larger mystery and attempting to navigate her messy personal life.

The Lee Daniels and Karin Gist series “Our Kind of People” is picking up speed at Fox Entertainment.
Fox is eyeing a potential series order for the drama, according to sources, and the company has now opened a writers’ room led by Gist.
Inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s book “Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class,” the series takes place in the aspirational world of Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard, a historical stronghold where the rich and powerful black elite have come to play for over 50 years.
“Our Kind of People” was first put in development back in 2017, as Variety exclusively reported, and was re-worked as of last year. The writers’ room news comes around three months after Fox announced the project was still in contention for an off-cycle order to fill the network’s growing scheduling needs due to Covid-19.

Fox Entertainment is set to open a writers room for drama Our Kind of People from Karin Gist and Lee Daniels with the hope that it turns into a straight-to-series order for the 2021-22 season.
The drama, which is inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s book Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class, is the second project to follow this model. Last month, the network opened a writers room for its Untitled Country Music Dynasty drama from writer/exec producer Melissa London Hilfers.
The move comes as Fox is moving away from only following the traditional pilot cycle with plans to order shows a number of different ways, some straight-to-series, some with writers rooms first, lower-cost presentations as well as pilots.
Written by Gist, who was showrunner of Season 1 of ABC’s Mixed-ish, Our Kind of People centers on single mom Angela Vaughn, who risks it all...

“The first season of Dishmantled was ludicrous,’ Lea said. ‘We had so much fun making this crazy show and can’t wait to get back in the studio with Tituss for another season. It’s going to be a blast.”

Exclusive: Six years after terrorists detonated two bombs near the Boston Marathon finish line taking three lives and causing hundreds of injuries, Propagate Content/Electus will make the documentary series Maximum Harm, based on Boston-based investigative journalist Michele McPhee’s book. Listing Impossible follows superstar real estate agent Aaron Kirman and his team as they work to sell multi-million dollar estates that have languished on the market. Cash Pad (working title) is a home renovation series in which Bachelorette couple-turned-home flippers JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers transform ordinary homes and apartments into lucrative short-term rental properties. Five Day Business Flip (working title) features a husband-and-wife design duo who remodel small businesses by creating additional money-making operations for them and do it all in five days.

Exclusive: IMDb is moving further into original content production with two new short-form comedy series – "Special Skills" hosted by SNL alum Jay Pharoah, and "UnMade", featuring comedians including Nick Cannon, Tig Notaro, Rainn Wilson, Weird Al, Reggie Watts and others. Both are produced by Electus’ Big Breakfast and are set to launch in early 2019.
Co-created by Luke Kelly-Clyne and Steve Marovitch, UnMade will follow comedians as they share the inspirations, plots and stories behind their projects and scripts that never saw the light of day. In each five-to-eight-minute episode, a celebrity guest will reveal a pitch or screenplay for an early passion project they were never able to get off the ground. These ambitious, often misguided and always hilarious ideas are then given a second chance, brought to life via a team of actors and a professional production crew. UnMade guest stars include Nick Cannon, Rainn Wilson, Tig Notaro, “Weird Al” Yankovic,...

The reunion of Propagate co-ceo Ben Silverman and his former partners at Electus was driven by a mutual desire to become bigger players in the land of media giants.
News that Propagate was acquiring Electus raised some eyebrows among industry insiders Tuesday morning as it was no secret that there was strain between Silverman and Electus CEO Chris Grant and COO Drew Buckley by the time Silverman left Electus in 2016 and joined Propagate shortly afterward. Silverman founded Electus in 2009 with backing from Barry Diller’s Iac, on the heels of his exit from NBC after a rocky two-year tenure as head of entertainment.
Silverman emphasized that Propagate jumped at a prime opportunity to grow its business once Electus went on the block. Buckley also downplayed the history of tension among the once-and-future partners.
“It’s business,” Silverman told Variety. “From my perspective I’m looking at it as the CEO...

Propagate, run by Ben Silverman and Howard Owen, has acquired Electus, as well as a majority interest in powerhouse talent management and production firm Artists First from Barry Diller’s Iac.
The independent content creation and distribution company is looking to expand its full-service global studio. The deal combines Electus’ popular content, international sales division and valuable library and Artists First’s impressive talent roster and hit shows with Propagate’s already robust content creation capabilities and strategic relationships. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“At Propagate, we are focused on building premium content with the best creative voices from around the world, and being able to support the growth of Electus and all of its partnerships is incredibly exciting to us,” Silverman and Owens said in a joint statement. “We have had the privilege of working closely with Peter Principato and his team of world-class executives and managers...

Updated: Two and a half years after Ben Silverman left the company he had founded, the Iac-owned Electus, to join Howard T. Owens in A+E Networks-backed Propagate, the duo have acquired Electus and its majority stake in management/production company Artists First from Barry Diller’s Iac.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed though I hear it is worth under $50 million. I hear Diller recently put Electus-Artists First up for sale and other main buyers who bid for the assets included Entertainment One.
The acquisitions were financed through the investment secured earlier this year from The Raine Group to accelerate Propagate’s global growth through new ventures and targeted acquisitions. Original investor A+E Networks also owns a stake in Propagate.

Propagate, the production banner headed by Howard Owens and Ben Silverman, is in expansion mode with a deal to acquire Electus and a majority interest in management-production banner Artists First.
The deal reunites Silverman with Electus, the company he founded a decade ago with backing from Barry Diller’s Iac. Electus had been quietly shopping for a buyer for the past few months after Iac came to the conclusion that the company largely focused on unscripted programming was not a fit with the rest of its digital-centric operations.
Electus is the producer and distributor of series including NBC’s “Running Wild with Bear Grylls,” ABC’s “The Toy Box,” the CW’s “Jane the Virgin,” and Discovery’s “Darkness,” along with production companies Big Breakfast (“Adam Ruins Everything”) and Notional, producer of Food Network’s “Chopped” franchise. The price tag for Electus was said to be around $35 million, according to a knowledgeable source.

Queen Latifah and Electus are teaming up to develop a travel documentary series, Variety has learned exclusively.
Latifah will executive produce via her Flavor Unit Entertainment banner, with Flavor Unit’s Shakim Compere also executive producing. Chris Grant and Drew Buckley will executive produce for Electus, with Allison Mandell Hudson and Randi Michel also executive producing.
“There are so many funny, brilliant women in this industry, and – with plenty of successful male-driven travel series out there – a comedic docu-series about sisterhood and adventure is just the type of uncharted territory we want to plant our flag in,” Latifah said. “I’m so excited to develop a show that not only elevates and highlights female comedians, but also brings them together for an amazing time that will also be a trip for viewers.”
The series, which is currently titled “Friends in Strange Places,” will highlight the global adventures of female comedians and their famous friends.
