Iggy Pop, Shirley Manson, and Cat Power are a few of the artists who’ve contributed to The Faithful: A Tribute to Marianne Faithfull, an upcoming covers compilation honoring the legendary English singer. Before it’s out in full December 8th, Tanya Donelly & The Parkington Sisters have shared their rendition of “This Little Bird.”
Also featuring fellow icons like Peaches, Lydia Lunch, Bush Tetras, Donita Sparks, and more, The Faithful is a benefit album that hits especially close to home: All profits will go directly to assist Faithfull as she recovers from long Covid. Donnelly and the Parkingtons do their forebear justice with their cover of “This Little Bird,” with layered vocal harmonies and delicate, complex string arrangements.
“Marianne’s voice has always been one of my favorite instruments, from childhood through today, and her music and spirit have been life-long inspirations,” Donnelly says in a press release. “I wanted...

Two years ago, Marianne Faithfull told Rolling Stone about her ongoing battle with Covid-19. “It’s terrible,” she said. “I got long-term Covid, where you get better from the virus, but you have leftover [symptoms]. Apparently, they now think that you do get better from long-term Covid; it’s not forever. That is good.”
To help Faithfull with mounting health costs, more than a dozen artists have recorded covers of songs for a benefit album, The Faithful: A Tribute to Marianne Faithfull, for her. Cat Power and Iggy Pop teamed to...

On the strength of its With Love series, the East Nashville indie label 3Sirens is doing god’s work: pairing some of Nashville’s most important voices with the songs that soundtracked many of our adolescent years. On Friday, the label, led by Alyssa and Doug Graham, announced 3Sirens Presents: With Love Part 2, the latest collection of reinvented hits from the Eighties and Nineties — including a stellar rendition of Tears of Fears’ “Everybody Wants to...

To live in Nashville is to love John Prine, so it never sat right how quarantine robbed the late singer, songwriter, and hometown hero of a proper in-person memorial when he died of Covid complications in April of 2020. Prine finally got the wake he deserved this week in Nashville with a string of celebratory concerts titled “You Got Gold,” which featured an all-star, cross-generational casts of admirers covering songs and exchanging anecdotes about the man.

In a year full of major 50th anniversary commemorations — from Woodstock to the moon landing — why not one for “Easy Rider,” Dennis Hopper’s hippie-biker flick that was released on July 14, 1969?
That was the idea when a rep for Peter Fonda, who starred in the film as the laid-back Captain America, reached out to New York impresario Peter Shapiro and Live Nation earlier this year about staging an event where the movie would be screened with the soundtrack performed live by some of the legendary musicians who appeared on it.
When Friday night’s “Easy Rider Live” show at Radio City Hall Music in New York was announced in late July, Fonda had not yet passed away from lung cancer. Before his death at age 79 on August 16, Fonda encouraged fans to come, saying, “Enjoy the new print. Sing along with the songs. Laugh with the humor! Remember the spirit! Find the love.

When Sturgill Simpson hit the road in support of 2014’s Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, he brought along Lucette — the adventurous, pop-leaning solo project of Alberta native Lauren Gillis, just 19 years old at the time — as the tour’s opening act. Half a decade later, the two reunite for Lucette’s sophomore release, Deluxe Hotel Room, which Simpson produced. It’s a bold expansion of Lucette’s melodic sensibilities, with arrangements that avoid the rootsy clichés of Americana music and, instead, double down on synthesizers, piano lines and the occasional horn solo.

In 2007, after returning to the music scene with the full E Street Band, Bruce Springsteen released the critically- and commercially-adored album, “Magic.” A fierce and cutting portrait of American disillusionment from track to track, the music marked a high point for the legendary rocker’s resurgent post-9/11 work, but it also signified the politically-progressive singer’s most pessimistic take on a society he’s been writing about — and representing — since the late ’60s.
Then, just two years later, the insightful artist released an album that could very well be his most hopeful ever, certainly since his return to prominence. While infectiously enthusiastic and admirably experimental, “Land of Hope and Dreams” was a significant step down in caliber compared to “Magic.” But it was what reflected our mass perspective in 2009, and more than that, it was what we needed to hear.

Anyway, I hope all you "Bones" and "Parks and Recreation" have your snacks lined up and your space on the couch cleared out. For those of you who are still in the hostage situation that is "Grey's Anatomy" well, I'll probably be there with you. And I'd like to wish everyone a happy Rapture or (more likely) a happy Saturday. I'm sure as shit not going anywhere, and I doubt many of you are either. Thanks to Jason Harris I'll be spending it at Exxxotica so I guess if this whole thing...

Nicole Atkins has just had her heart broken, but you would never know it. Her waters turned from clear to dark, only recently. Formerly releasing solo records as "Nicole Atkins and the Sea," Atkins' the latest incarnation of her solo act was born during a year in which she has her heart broken, her record contract with Columbia was severed, and she was forced, at the last minute before laying down her latest record, to take on an entirely new backup band. Atkins and her new troupe of polished, black-clad musicians (The Black Sea), are now touring to promote "Mondo Amore," Atkins's third solo LP, a bluesy, psychedelic heartbreak album brimming over with the spoils of hard-earned growth. Listening to the ensemble play live at Anton's last night, it is hard to imagine Atkins playing with anyone else. With the electric fluency of Irina Yalkowsky's guitar, the precise and brooding bass of Jeremy Kay,...

Some of you may have noticed that Pajiba After Dark is showing up earlier. Or not, whatever, Pajiba After Dark doesn't need your attention to feel good about itself because Pajiba After Dark is beautiful no matter what you say. If you haven't, I'm letting you know so you can have the opportunity to better plan your evening's television watching and/or Intern bashing for those of you who are into that sort of thing. Here's your Thursday night TV:
8:00pm: "American Idol" on Fox. Someone gave me a bit of shit last night for my comment that I never feel more disconnected from the average American as I do when this show is airing. To be clear, I didn't mean this as any kind of judgement on relative levels of intellect, but that I'm bewildered as to why people have been so consistently captivated by what is basically a glorified open mic night.

Rumors have been circling the web regarding the highly anticipated Bonnaroo music festival for about a month, and now the official line-up has been released.
In January, someone with too much time on their hands threw together a fake line-up for the Manchester, Tn festival including the likes of U2, Lil' Wayne, The Strokes and Drake.
There are more than a few common threads (Lil' Wayne! Girl Talk! Florence + The Machine!) between the fake and real line-ups, but we are bummed that Drake didn't make the cut. Eminem taking top billing was a nice surprise, though.
Check out the full list of performers below, which also includes Arcade Fire, fresh off their Grammy win.
The festival is slated for June 9-12, 2011 and tickets will be available starting Feb. 19 and 12 noon on bonnaroo.com.
Eminem
Arcade Fire
Widespread Panic
The Black Keys
Buffalo Springfield feat Richie Furay, Stephen Stills, Neil Young,...

On Tuesday (February 15), organizers announced the lineup for the 2011 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, set for June 9-12 in Manchester, Tennessee. And, boy, it's going to be interesting to hear the purists' take on this year's bill.
Browse photos of the 2011 Bonnaroo performers.
Unlike earlier, decidedly crunchy editions of the fest, the 2011 lineup is topped by two of the hugest hip-hop acts in the business — Eminem and Lil Wayne — along with newly crowned Grammy champs Arcade Fire and the Black Keys. Other acts on the bill include Mumford & Sons, the Strokes, the Decemberists, Florence and the Machine, Big Boi, Wiz Khalifa and Robyn.
Of course, there are still some nods to Bonnaroo's roots: Fest vets Widespread Panic return once again, as do My Morning Jacket and the String Cheese Incident.

The third part of Nicole Atkins' vignettes From "Mondo Amore," features the dark beauty burying secrets at a crossroads. What's in the silver box? What price will she pay for this Faustian bargain? Where can I get one of those cloaks? Some questions remain unanswered, but you may find enlightenment on the album, out tomorrow on Razor & Tie.
Atkins signed with the independent New York label after splitting with Columbia Records. "The production of the last record was a little bit too cheery for my taste," Atkins said. "It was really lush and pretty and this time I wanted to deconstruct the sound a little bit." Inspired by the work of Scott Walker and Nick Cave, she wanted to hit a more haunting chord with her new record. "I knew where I was going with the record so I said, 'Look, if you don't hear it, I hear it,...

Brooklyn's Nicole Atkins has become known for her darkly hypnotic voice, after her first full length record "Neptune City" released in 2007 and more recently from touring with the acts like The Black Keys. Next week she releases "Mondo Amore," and she says it's the record she's always wanted to make -- ever since she started singing at age 12 in her native Neptune, New Jersey.
Filmmakers Mandy Bisesti and Lucia Holm created three sultry vignettes to go along with three songs from the forthcoming album, the first two of which we have exclusively, below. The lush, lacy look of these vignettes "were born out of years and years of reading fairy tales, books on symbolism, mythology, folk lore, fantasy," Biseti confided. The narrative that the black-caped Atkins becomes immersed in here "plays on the Robert Johnson, Devil at the Crossroads legend where a Faustian bargain is struck -- a deal is...

As if the Tsa pat-downs weren't bad enough, someone was actually arrested after cumming during a mandated frisking. Seriously. Every part of that sentence was so wrong it physically hurts me. And now to wait for the inevitable porn parody. (DeadSeriousNews)
Here are five movies too sexy for distribution. Ummmm... No offense, but I would not fuck a single one of these movies. Like, if these movies were people and you saw them at a bar, you would need at least a five drink minimum before body parts were exchanged. (Nerve)
Did any of you see that bit on Conan where they imagine Oprah giving away a swarm of bees on her Favorite Things episode? Well, it's now in Gif form. I want to marry this Gif and have little Gif children. (Film Drunk)
I know a lot of you aren't really into country music, but that's just because you've never heard of Miranda Lambert.
