Mad Men is quietly careening toward its May 17 series finale on AMC, offering up subtle hints about the possible endgame during these last episodes with the addition of more guest stars — both old and new. Spoilers ahead for anybody who has yet to watch. Sunday's episode, "The Forecast," brought the notable return of Glen Bishop (played by creator Matthew Weiner's son Marten Holden Weiner) and the addition of a suitor for Joan (Christina Hendricks) in Bruce Greenwood. It also marked the first real focus on the Francis household and Sally (Kiernan Shipka) since the show's recent return.

While I still have a strange, unwanted taste in my mouth from hearing about the propose remake of John Hughes. Weird Science, thanks to the above parody video from Funny or Die I can temporarily forget about it. This video brings to life any conversation that any film fan has had about Weird Science that lasts longer than three minutes. Once you stop talking about how hot Lisa is and the person you would try and create in the device, things take a dark turn. What could go wrong with this machine if you weren.t extremely careful? Just ask Breaking Bad.s R.J. Mitte and Mad Men.s Marten Holden Weiner, who fill the Gary and Wyatt roles in Strange Chemistry and attempt to create their dream girl by way of technology. While they aim high for their creation, choosing to duplicate Victoria.s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio,...

Funny or Die enlisted two of TV's most endearingly awkward young men, Breaking Bad's Rj Mitte (Walt Jr.) and Mad Men's Marten Holden Weiner (Glen Bishop), to parody one of film's more endearingly awkward movies: Weird Science. In a short called "Weird Science 2," the boys program their own sex monster (Alessandra Ambrosio), and after things go awry, we learn that next time they should just cook meth or something. We have an idea of how they can learn.

Those of you who have been waiting for a sequel to 1985's Weird Science will have to make due with this modern version titled Strange Chemistry. The basic idea here is the same though since it is from Funny or Die you know that it come with a twist. Instead of Kelly LeBrock, we get Alessandra Ambrosio who struts her pretty little behind on the Victoria Secret runway. In the place of Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith, there's Rj Mitte (Breaking Bad) and Marten Holden Weiner (Mad...

With only one episode left to go this season, "Mad Men" is officially on a roll. These last two installments have been the season's best -- as strong as anything the show has ever produced -- and expectations have been duly raised for next week's finale.
For an episode that begins with Don taking a sick day, much of the action in "The Quality of Mercy" takes place in the offices of Sc&P. Even as Don attempts at first to hide from his problems and then to bury himself in work, he can't help but face reminders of what he's done.
The episode's most dramatic sequences rely on the audience's knowledge of not just what happens throughout the hour, but what has transpired over the course of the series -- from Pete finding out Don's secret to Peggy quitting Scdp to Sally catching Don. These characters and this show are rich in history,...

The fifth season of AMC's "Mad Men" came to a close Sunday night, wrapping up what has been arguably among its strongest seasons yet. No small feat considering the show has taken home four consecutive Emmys for Best Drama and been proclaimed one of the best shows on TV by nearly every critic reviewing the medium. After a run of 13 almost uniformly excellent episodes, it becomes harder to remember that this season had gotten off to a rocky start. When the network decided to pull the show out of its summer slot to make room for the other best show on TV ("Breaking Bad"), fans had to endure a brutal 17-month wait. Contract negotiations between creator Matthew Weiner and the studio were made public and gave both the network and creator some negative buzz to overcome.

“Everything you think is going to make you happy just turns to crap." --Glen Bishop (Marten Holden Weiner) This whole season of "Mad Men" has been so shadowed with death that the fact that someone at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce finally embraced oblivion wasn't quite a shock. But that is was Lane (Jared Harris), whose embezzling his way out of a precarious financial position was bound to catch up with him eventually, was unexpected -- like some others out there, I would have put my money on Pete (Vincent Kartheiser). And Lane's surreptitious stealing of a few thousand dollars to get himself out of a tax jam (his "13-day loan") just didn't seem all that serious, either to us or to him -- confronted by Don, he tries to laugh it off and is shocked when...

"Everything you think is going to make you happy just turns to crap." If that's not a statement about Mad Men's major themes, I don't know what is. While it's outsider Glen Bishop (Marten Holden Weiner) who utters those words at the end of the episode, they could be said by just about any character on the drama, offering a prism through which to see that our expectations are often dashed against the rocks when faced with the reality of our situations. Happiness, as Don Draper (Jon Hamm) would argue, just begets more happiness, but more importantly, the sensation of happiness demands further happiness. It's elusive and short-lived and, as one gets older, the simple things that might have once made us joyful--driving a car, an illicit cup of coffee with tons of sugar--turn to ash in our mouths. Happiness, it seems, is as much about anticipation as it is expectation.

***If You Haven't Watched Sunday's Episode Yet, What Follows Below Will Spoil It For You From The Get Go. You've Been Warned.***
Lane Pryce is a dead man. On Sunday's (June 3) penultimate episode of "Mad Men's" fifth season, Jared Harris' character fulfilled the prophecy that a Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce employee was headed for death when he was found hanged, by his own hand, on the coat hook on the back of his office door.
Both Lane and Pete Campbell were on the short list of candidates for the grim reaper, but in the end it was Lane who couldn't hack what his life had become. And, if viewers were paying close attention, things had been looking up for Pete in the past couple of episodes. As soon as he stopped wrestling with his demons and embraced his inner Gollum (by selling Joan to get the Jaguar account...

Look out, most prestigious and glamour-drenched international movie showcase/market in the world! The Americans have taken over the 65th Festival de Cannes. They have rolled out the big guns and the big talent — and no, I don’t mean that the festival has been anchored to the premiere of some e-ticket popcorn showpiece like Robin Hood or Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, as happened in recent years. (This year, the token Hollywood vulgarity is Madagascar 3, which has so nothing to do with this festival that no one has to pretend.) The films with the featured slots,...
