While we're over here lauding new JCPenney CEO Ron Johnson for overhauling the department store's outdated offerings - he not only bagged collaborations with style titans Cynthia Rowley and Vivienne Tam, but he rolled out a few gay-friendy ad campaigns - Donna Jones isn't so excited about the changes.

The controversy over Ellen DeGeneres' new appointment as JCPenney spokesperson seems never ending.
Just one day after Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly defended DeGeneres, a more likely advocate has come forward on the comedian's behalf: JCPenney CEO Ron Johnson.
Johnson, who stated once again that his company "shares the same values" as DeGeneres, spoke to "CBS This Morning" about an online boycott of his Texas-based retail chain by anti-gay group One Million Moms, a division of the American Family Association, who say they want the talk show host fired because she is a lesbian.
"We don't look at it like a controversy," he said. "One of the great things about America is people can speak their mind. And you know, the organization that believes one thing has spoken and it was great to see Ellen share her views yesterday. And we stand squarely behind Ellen as our spokesperson, and that's a great thing.

Though she claims not to pay attention to her haters, Ellen DeGeneres nonetheless has addressed an anti-gay organization's plea to have her fired as the new spokesperson for Jc Penney.
On an episode of her show today, DeGeneres speaks at length about the online boycott launched by OneMillionMoms.com, a division of the American Family Association, who have pressed the retail chain to replace the talk show host because she is a lesbian.
"They wanted to get me fired, and I'm proud and happy to say that JCPenney stuck by their decision to make me their spokesperson," she says. "Which is great news for me because I also need some new crew socks."
Reading through several comments written in her defense on the group's Facebook page, she goes on to note, "I usually don't talk about stuff like this on my show, but I really want to thank everyone who is supporting me.

Exclusive: Former Hollywood agent John Fogelman just phoned to tell me that his FactoryMade Ventures and Jc Penney are announcing a 3-year partnership on Friday. The retailer announced on Wednesday it is rebranding itself “jcpenney” and will have a new pricing strategy, corporate identity, new merchandise and updated stores by 2015. One of its brand partners will be Ellen DeGeneres. Penney wants Fogelman’s outfit to help ”re-imagine innovative media and entertainment opportunities”. This is the introduction that Fogelman’s former client/investor/partner J.J. Abrams set up before the TV producer/filmmaker decided he was too busy and exited those roles. Abrams is friends with ex-Target Chief Marketing Officer Michael Francis who recently joined forces with ex-Apple Retail stores guru Ron Johnson to reinvent J.C. Penney. “They want my company to help reimagine the bricks and mortar experience and online experience,” Fogelman told me. “Just the way that we...

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen stepped out in NYC this morning for an exclusive JCPenney event held at Pier 57. The designers dressed in shades of black and gray, with each sister carrying one of their own luxury handbags from The Row. They were on hand to support their lower-priced brand, Olsenboye, which is sold exclusively at JCPenney. Today's event brought out a fashionable crowd, with Charlotte Ronson. Diane von Furstenburg, and Nicole Miller also on hand. JCPenney CEO Ron Johnson was the star of the gathering, though, taking the stage to share Jcp's new pricing strategy. It seems fans of Mary-Kate and Ashley's Olsenboye can look forward to picking up items at lower prices in future seasons, but they're taking the opposite approach when it comes to The Row considering the astronomical cost of their $39,000 alligator backpack. Ron Johnson, the merchandising guru who created Apple's amazing retail stores, is the second top exec to leave in recent months. What's going on in Cupertino? Dan Lyons on the exodus.
One of the many great strengths of Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been his ability to surround himself with incredibly brilliant people. Over the past decade, Jobs has assembled one of the best executive teams in any industry, comprised of men-and yes, they are all men-who are not just very good at what they do but also extremely loyal to Jobs.

Update: Wisconsin Senate Republicans voted to strip state workers of their collective bargaining rights on Wednesday. The Democratic senators' presence was not required after the Gop separated the measure from a spending package so that it no longer required a quorum. The final vote was 18-1, with Republican Dale Schultz casting the only vote against the bill. The move could come back to bite Republicans: Polling showed citizens of Wisconsin, by a two-to-one majority, were expecting a compromise.

Republican bigwigs vote for a new party chairman Friday. With Michael Steele on the ropes, who's likely to emerge as top dog? The Daily Beast previews the contenders. Plus, what black Republicans think about Steele.
Republican National Committee members are gathering in Michael Steele's backyard Friday afternoon, hunkering down in a Maryland hotel to decide the fate of the controversial Rnc leader. But the former Maryland lieutenant governor has little reason to feel comfortable, even with the home cooking.

According to early vote counts, Steele is on his way out the door. During his two years at the helm of the Gop fundraising machine, the 52-year-old sometime lawyer has been criticized by party elders for turning the Rnc into a den of debt and delinquency. Remember that whole West Hollywood sex club fiasco?
Well, the 168 Rnc members voting today certainly do.

He fought with his father, he spooked the neighbors, he went to Walmart for ammunition-Claire Martin and Masada Siegel trace the Tucson suspect's path in the hours before the shootings.
Jared Loughner was known among residents of his Tucson neighborhood for sometimes behaving strangely. He'd pace the sidewalk, mutter to himself as he listened to his iPod, and pass people without greeting them when he took his dog for a walk. Isaiah and Michelle Martinez, siblings who live nearby and attended Mountain View High School with Loughner, had seen that many times before.

On the morning of the Gabrielle Giffords' shooting, suspect Jared Loughner's father stopped to ask his son why he was removing a black bag from the trunk of his car. Loughner mumbled something and ran into the desert; his father gave chase for awhile in his truck, but eventually gave up. It turns out too that the police had been called to the Loughners' home before the shooting on more than one occasion, although the exact nature of those calls has not yet been revealed. Police have also found more disturbing notes from Loughner, including one that said "Die, bitch" -a reference, they believe, to Giffords. On Tuesday, the parents broke their silence, saying they "wish they could change the heinous events of Saturday."
Claire Martin and Masada Siegel talk to the Loughners' neighbors. Plus, full coverage of the Arizona shooting.

Results are still pouring in, and probably will be for the next 24 hours, but the writing on the wall for Democrats on Tuesday night (November 2) is clear: A change is gonna come.
Nearly two years after President Barack Obama swept into power on a wave of excitement and promises of change that helped Democrats gain control of the White House and both houses of Congress in a rare political hat trick, voters gave the president's ambitious agenda a harsh rebuke in the midterm elections. According to the Huffington Post, exit polls showed that voters were very worried about the economy and not happy with the way Obama and Congress had handled the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, leading many to vote for Republicans...

On Wednesday, May 26, 2010, just after 2:30 p.m., the unthinkable happened: Apple became the largest company in the tech universe, and, after ExxonMobil, the second largest in the nation. For months, its market capitalization had hovered just under that of Microsoft -- the giant that buried Apple and then saved it from almost certain demise with a $150 million investment in 1997. Now Microsoft gets in line with Google, Amazon, Htc, Nokia, and Hp as companies that Apple seems bent on sidelining. The one-time underdog from Cupertino is the...

Apple fanboys jumped all over this morning’s reports of a planned Apple Store employee walkout in Lynnwood, Washington. We tracked down a former employee of the Lynnwood store, Glen Bowers, who confirms that the management staff was less than friendly during his tenure there. “We were convinced we were making a difference and helping Apple, and the [management] took advantage of that,” he says. “We were constantly threatened with being fired, and we were warned that once fired from Apple, we can never work for Apple again. New people who were hired knew nothing about Macs or any Apple products and were paid more than us. It killed us, but there was nothing we could do.” Store employees put in complaints to Apple Hr for more than a year before any action was taken, according to Bowers. “I certainly applaud their willingness to stand up," he says. "I only wish...
