A movie featuring Marvel's African superhero Black Panther has been on the comic book giant's radar for over two decades, since Wesley Snipes set his sights on the role in 1992, and the hiring of a screenwriter in 2011 suggested it might actually happen.
Numerous actors have been linked to a film version, including Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Djimon Hounsou, while Anthony Mackie campaigned for the part and ended up instead being cast as Falcon in the next Captain America movie.
In 2012, actor and stuntman Raw Leiba said he was in line to play Panther enemy Erik Killmonger and added that the project was awaiting script rewrites.
All went quiet after that, but now Morris Chestnut has caused a new stir about Black Panther being adapted for the big screen.

Raw Leiba, who had a minor role in last year’s Conan the Barbarian remake and a small part on HBO’s Game of Thrones, has suddenly become attached to two slow-developing but high-profile projects. The Geek Files has heard rumors that the actor and stuntman will appear in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s Highlander remake and Marvel Studios’ Black Panther.
The Highlander project has Ryan Reynolds in the lead role, but other casting appears to have gone quiet since. Vinnie Jones and Ray Stevenson have been rumored to be in the mix for the character Kurgan (played by Clancy Brown in the 1986 original), so Geek Files speculates Leiba could play Sean Connery’s role, the immortal Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez, but given Leiba’s low profile and stunt background, he seems more suited for a smaller part. The actor’s reps have not commented on his casting either way.

A little casting tidbit was quietly slipped over at TheGeekFiles, who have (apparently) been informed that actor and stuntman Raw Leiba (Dead Man Down, The Heat) is being courted for a part in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo‘s Highlander and Marvel’s Black Panther. (Oh, and it would seem both projects still have life in them.)
Ryan Reynolds was already tapped to headline the former project — i.e., one role is already out of the question — while the latter is only a question of timing and franchise priorities. He previously confirmed talks to play its antagonist — some say it’s a black militant named Erik Killmonger — back in July, though, and also told them that it just needs a rewrite before “going forward.” So that much is fairly believable.

With the success of Marvel’s The Avengers still ringing in our ears it was inevitable that every conceivable franchise would be considered for a big-screen outing sooner or later, and this week it’s the turn of T’Challa, aka The Black Panther.
Black Panther has long been rumoured for his own movie ever since Wesley Snipes aligned himself with the title way back in 1992. By 1997 Stan Lee was on board, Columbia were producing and Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiottin were hired to write. Less than a year later the film was officially ‘on hold’ and the name dropped for over a decade until the superhero buzz caught fire again.

In a recent interview with worldofsuperheroes.com actor/stuntman Raw Leiba (Conan, Game of Thrones) confirms that he met with Marvel about playing The Black Panther's nemesis, Erik Killmonger. Raw Leiba: Well, it really all started with a visit to Marvel, they knew about me, but it was being there at Marvel talking to the artist and the wonderful people that work there and Marvel getting that opportunity to see me in person that put me in this position, that was a combination of some really good people at Marvel and some good folks at Espn, Including my friend Espn’S Kenny Mayne. So myself and my Manager Charlie Wright went up there then after that truth took over and Marvel saw for themselves. Infact one of the first things they mentioned, that I have, was how I look exactly like the character but it takes more than just...

Although the Avengers is still in cinemas and has now become the third highest-grossing film in the USA and across the globe, talk is intensifying over who will be next to step from the pages of the comics.
We already know that Iron Man 3 is currently filming; Thor and Captain America have their own sequels greenlit; and another Avengers is in development. But how will the Marvel movie world be expanded beyond follow-ups that repeat the heroes we already know?
In particular, there is a so-far-unnamed Marvel movie scheduled for release on May 16, 2014.
Earlier this month, Latino Review claimed that Black Panther would fill that slot and there has recently been a big show of hands from several individuals who (no doubt having seen the cash raked in by Avengers) are publicly campaigning for the title role - including Romeo Miller (aka Lil' Romeo), Aldis Hodge, Anthony Mackie and...

It's been almost a year since the Coventry Telegraph reported that Raw Leiba had met with Marvel about possibly playing Erik Killmonger. Now the relatively unknown actor/stuntman has decided to make a more dramatic pitch for the part by donning the full costume. Image Courtesy of CoventryTelegraph.net Last August he explained to worldofblackheroes.com why he wanted the role. Easy one, because he’s an expert fighter and can match Black Panther both Mentally and Physically and hopefully if I’m officially offered the role of Erik Killmonger my performance will make him very well known. Actors will tell you its allot more fun to be the bad guy, you can go outside the script a little bit and add your own personal touch to the character and it doesn’t hurt I look Exactly like the guy. A native of Wakanda, he was born under the name N'Jadaka.

From vampires and werewolves to tights and superheroes, writer Melissa Rosenberg is following her big-screen success with a comic-inspired return to television.
Not to be confused with the J.J. Abrams espionage series of the same name, the Brian Michael Bendis penned comic Alias - retitled Aka Jessica Jones for the small screen - has been listed as one of several Marvel properties on their TV production shortlist. Taking a step toward getting a pilot, the ABC-controlled title announced last year that Twilight scribe Rosenberg would write and executive produce for the hopeful series.
In an update on plans for the show, Rosenberg expresses her enthusiasm to I Am Rogue: "Brian Michael Bendis is such an amazing storyteller. I read that comic book and I completely saw it on screen. There are things I took directly from the comic book and just put in the script. That was so much fun to do.

We’ve all heard that Marvel is pursuing a Black Panther film (here), but we haven’t heard anything about the development of the film since it was announced. Well, sources are telling The Geek Files that Actor Raw Leiba (Conan The Barbarian remake) has met with Marvel about starring as the Black Panther’s arch nemesis Erik Killmonger, or Luke Cage. It’s unknown how truthful this report is, and it would be safe to just file this under “rumor” for the moment. However, we’ve heard that two Marvel films are set for 2014 (here), and Black Panther or Luke Cage could be one of them.

Actor Raw Leiba has had discussions with Marvel about the possibility of playing strongman hero Luke Cage or Black Panther archnemesis Erik Killmonger.
Marvel hired a writer for a Black Panther movie in January and had at one time been developing a Luke Cage feature.
The actor, who appears in the upcoming Conan the Barbarian reboot, had previously revealed he was keen to be considered for either of those potential adaptations and has now made his interest official.
As the picture above shows, Leiba (on the right) and his manager Charlie Wright visited the entertainment giant's offices. Sources say discussions included Luke Cage as well as the role of Erik Killmonger (see image below), a villain from the Black Panther comics.
Leiba has also become a producer on Dream Destinations, a documentary of the life and works of Canadian director Ted Kotcheff, whose credits include 1982's First Blood, the first in the Rambo franchise.

The Sitter Red Band Trailer. David Gordon Green‘s The Sitter (2011) red band movie trailer stars Jonah Hill, Sam Rockwell, Ari Graynor, Max Records, and Kevin Hernandez. The Sitter‘s plot synopsis: “A comedy about a college student (Jonah Hill) on suspension who is coaxed into babysitting the kids next door, but is fully unprepared for the crazy night ahead of him and ends up on a wild chase through New York.”
The Sitter looks hilarious but if it reaches the Adventures in Babysitting classic status or the notoriety of The Babysitters (reviewed here: Film Review: The Babysitters) remains to be seen. The children all have the adult mouths of Hit-Girl from Kick-Ass.
The Sitter‘s history:
The movie was made from a spec screenplay by Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka — a duo who made a name for themselves with a college comedy script titled Who the Hell is Sanjay Patel,...

Here’s a handful of new images from director Marcus Nispel’s remake/reboot of Conan the Barbarian, the sword and sandals franchise based on the classic Robert E. Howard books, which stars Jason Momoa as Conan, alongside Ron Perlman, Stephen Lang, Rachel Nichols, Rose McGowan, Raw Leiba and Saïd Taghmaoui.
Conan is a young Cimmerian man cast adrift in the world by the brutal murder of his father and the destruction of his village. Driven by the need to avenge himself upon the evil Khalar Zym, Conan learns to steal, seduce, and fight his way to his goals. He soon discovers, however, that there are greater things at stake than his own personal quest: an unearthly malevolence stalks the world, and it may be up to Conan himself to save Hyboria from ruin.
Conan the Barbarian is released in UK cinemas on August 24th.

Not bad. The look of the film is certainly good. If I am not mistaken, I saw homage to Conan the Barbarian (1982) during a few of the snow battle clips. The battles look good, great cinematography, but can the intensity of the Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s 1982 film really be recreated?...
