Richard Harvey(V)
Surfer and surfboard maker Richard Harvey was born in 1948 in Sydney, Australia. Harvey started surfing at age ten right after his family moved to Avalon Beach in New South Wales, Australia. Richard finished third in the 1969 Australian Titles surf contest and opened a Shane Surfboards factory/showroom outlet on Australia's Gold Coast in 1970. Harvey went on to win the 1973 Australian Titles as well as won the debut Ma and Pa Bendall Surf Classic competition in 1974. Moreover, Richard was invited to participate in both the Pipeline Masters and Duke Kahanamoku Classic Invitational contests held in Hawaii in 1973. Harvey's book "The Surfing History of Queensland" was published in 1980. In addition, Richard worked as an accessory designer for the surf company Billabong Australia for fifteen years beginning in 1988. His Harvey Surfboards brand remains one of the most popular Gold Coast labels in Australian surfing history.
