After his indictment on 34 felony counts Tuesday, Donald Trump sought out a faithful audience, joining a conference call with Christian supporters who see him as not simply battling a liberal prosecutor, but ensnared in a “demonic situation.”
Trump’s longtime religious adviser Paula White Cain, working with an evangelical group called Intercessors for America, organized an “Emergency Prayer Call” for Trump. (In Christianity, intercessors are people who pray to God on behalf of others.)

President Donald Trump lashed out at the press this morning, bragging he personally has “kept many of them in business” and that in six years, which would be the end of his second term, “they all go bust.” Triggering Trump’s Wednesday tweetstorm was a New York Times report, “Intimidation, Pressure and Humiliation: Inside Trump’s Two-Year War on the Investigations Encircling Him.” The 5K-word report details how Trump’s efforts “have exposed him to accusations of obstruction of justice as Robert Mueller III, the special counsel, finishes his work.” While it ticks off more than 1100 times Nyt is aware of that Trump trashed Robert Mueller, FBI, the Doj and figures at those agencies, in a campaign to discredit the legal process, the new blockbuster was word Trump tried to interfere into the investigation of his former fixer Michael Cohen. Nyt reported Trump contacted Matt Whitaker, soon after Trump named him Acting Attorney General,...

In a week that featured the divisive State of the Union and the Virginia governor facing a blackface scandal, Saturday Night Live‘s Meet the Press instead cold-opened with another story dominating headlines: The National Enquirer‘s alleged blackmail of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
“We’re all highly respected journalists, so when all is said and done, what do you think Jeff Bezos’ penis will look like,” Kyle Mooney’s Chuck Todd asked. “I know normally high-minded journalists wouldn’t talk about something like this, but it does involve the...

Fresh off their announcement of the GLAAD Media Awards at Sundance, GLAAD revealed today during the Park City fest that they have partnered with The Black List for the inaugural GLAAD List, a catalog of the most promising unmade Lgbtq-inclusive film scripts in Hollywood that have been hosted on blcklst.com or were included on the 2018 year-end annual Black List.
The curated list includes scripts about trans youth, HIV and AIDS, and Lgbtq icon Bayard Rustin. The scripts on The GLAAD List represent the type of stories that GLAAD would like to see studios producing.
“There is no more reputable source for discovering quality scripts in Hollywood than The Black List,” said Jeremy Blacklow, GLAAD’s Director of Entertainment Media. “The Black List’s commitment to elevating marginalized voices in the film industry is unparalleled and GLAAD is excited to lock arms with them in helping bring diverse Lgbtq stories to Hollywood’s attention.

Former FBI director James Comey is not any less irked after spending a second full day being grilled behind closed doors by Republicans in the House Judiciary Committee about Hillary Clinton and the Steele Dossier.
As he had done two weeks ago, when Gop members of the committee demanded his presence for a last gasp paddling as they prepare to lose the gavel to Dems, Comey again staged a lively pop-up presser in the hallway at conclusion of the grilling to explain how he felt about the hours he will never get back, spent in their company.
“Another day of HIllary Clinton and Steele Dossier,” Clapper snickered. “This while the President of the United States is lying about the FBI, attacking the FBI, and attacking the rule of law in this country.”
“Republicans used to understand that the actions of a president matter, that the words of a president matter,...

President Trump is in no rush to nominate someone to replace Jeff Sessions as attorney general. Until he does, Matthew Whitaker will fill the role. Many have found this concerning, not just because of Whitaker’s demonstrated opposition to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, but because he doesn’t really seem to have that much of an issue with certain forms of crime. On Friday, the Washington Post reported that the former U.S. attorney from Iowa continued to promote a controversial patent company despite knowing that it was scamming its clients,...

Say this for Donald Trump: He can make a joke as well as he can take one.
Days after calling for decorum in the White House – and with his repeated duckings of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner prompting a no-comedian affair next year – the President of the United States tweeted an insult about Rep. Adam Schiff, calling the Democratic congressman from California “little Adam Schitt.”
Trump’s Sunday morning tweet, in full: “So funny to see little Adam Schitt (D-ca) talking about the fact that Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker was not approved by the Senate, but not mentioning the fact that Bob Mueller (who is highly conflicted) was not approved by the Senate!”
Any remote possibility that the sophomoric jibe was some sort of auto-correct blunder faded in direct proportion to the hours the tweet remained live (24 and counting) on the President of the United States’ official Twitter page.

After recapping a “whirlwind” week that included mass shooting and wildfires in California, CNN’s Jim Acosta being banned from the White House, and Trump skipping a commemoration for World War I soldiers because it was raining, John Oliver spent some time looking at Trump’s reax to the midterm elections.
Democrats won back control of the House which, Oliver noted, is bad for Trump – though not according to him.
At next morning’s presser, Trump insisted to reporters it was “very close to complete victory” for him.
Trump’s ability to frame defeat as victory aside, the weirdest part was his glee at the losses of Republicans who did not “embrace” him, though the losses were bad for him.
“Mike Coffman – too bad, Mike,” Trump snarked of the five-term Colorado congressman who said he lost when the race turned into a referendum on Trump.

Kate McKinnon’s Jeff Sessions said goodbye to the White House in a Saturday Night Live cold open that followed the now-former Attorney General’s resignation from the Trump administration. The sketch also featured Robert De Niro reprising his portrayal of Robert Mueller.
“I don’t understand how Mr. Trump can replace me with Matt Whitaker,” McKinnon’s defeated Sessions said. “He’s just a shady businessman with no experience who’s blindly loyal to Donald Trump… okay hearing it out loud, it makes sense.”
“Sessions” then packed up his belongings from his office,...

Like two guys sitting around a campfire trying to frighten their scout troop, Bob Woodward and Bill Maher sat together on stage and scared the bejeezus out of Real Time viewers.
Woodward ostensibly came to Maher’s HBO late-night show to promote his book, Fear: Trump In the White House – the title of which, he said, President Donald Trump gave him during an interview. Asked what is real power, Trump responded that real power is fear. “It was almost like Hamlet in Shakespeare,” Woodward shivered.
“It’s his way of scaring the bejeezus out of people,” the Washington Post associate editor explained.
“People ask why Republicans fall in line behind him. They fear him,” chimed in Maher.
“The country fears him, so the world fears him,” Woodward added. “The fear has worked,” he said, calling this administration a “governing crisis” created by a Potus “gambling with who we are and what the country is.

An increasingly agitated President Donald Trump hurled insults at journalists on the White House lawn Friday morning as he was leaving to fly to Paris this weekend to attend ceremonies marking the centenary of the armistice that brought an end to the fighting in World War I.
Landing in Paris, he picked a fight with France’s President Macron.
“President Macron of France has just suggested that Europe build its own military in order to protect itself from the U.S., China and Russia,” Trump tweeted.
“Very insulting, but perhaps Europe should first pay its fair share of Nato which the U.S. subsidizes greatly!” Trump tweet-snarked.
Macron had made the remark Tuesday but Trump waited until he was in town to trash talk the French president.
Macron called Tuesday for a “real European army” to better defend itself “against Russia and even the United States,” Agence France Presse reported.

President Donald Trump shot back at former First Lady Michelle Obama over an excerpt of her new book in which she said she would never forgive him for his birther conspiracy about her husband and the impact it had on her family.
“I guess she wrote a book. She got paid a lot of money to write a book. And they always insist you come up with controversial,” Trump snarked on the White House lawn, as he was heading to Paris.
“Well, I’ll give you a little controversy back: I’ll never forgive [President Obama] for what he did to our United States military. By not funding properly, it was depleted. Everything was old and tired. And I came in and I had to fix it,” Trump added.

President Donald Trump has a tendency to hire men and women who have television experience, and Matt Whitaker, who became his acting attorney general on Wednesday with the forced resignation of Jeff Sessions, is no different.
Whitaker served as a legal commentator for CNN, the president's least-favorite network, for four months last year, from June to September 2017.
In early August 2017, Whitaker wrote on Twitter, "I will be joining @cnn at the top of the hour in my role as 'legal commentator. I really can't think of anything timely to discuss."

Washington — Less than 24 hours after Democrats regained control of the House of Representatives, Attorney General Jeff Sessions became the first casualty of President Trump’s post-election cabinet purge. Sessions announced his decision to quit on Wednesday.
“At your request, I am submitting my resignation,” he wrote.
Trump said in a tweet that a permanent replacement for Sessions would be nominated “at a later date.” Sessions’ departure could pave the way for a new attorney general who would place restrictions on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in...
