John Avlon, who recently departed CNN, has officially launched his bid for a New York congressional seat.
He is running in the first congressional district, which covers Suffolk County and is currently held by Rep. Nick Lalota (R-ny), who has endorsed Donald Trump in the presidential race. Avlon faces a crowded Democratic field in the June 25 primary.

In an interview on PBS‘ Firing Line with Margaret Hoover, Richard Dreyfuss has slammed new diversity and inclusion requirements for next year’s Oscars and said the rules “make me vomit.” The veteran actor went on to comment, “Because this is an art form. It’s also a form of commerce, and it makes money. But it’s an art. And no one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is.” He was responding to inclusion requirements, which went into effect in 2020, requiring nominees for Best Picture to include “on-screen representation, themes, and narratives; creative leadership and project team; industry access and opportunities; and audience development,” according to the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. One of three of these requirements must be met, said the Academy. At least one actor from an underrepresented...

Now 75, Richard Dreyfuss has turned into pretty much what you’d expect: curt, cranky and direct…and we love him for it! Now, he has targeted the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the same organization that made him the youngest Best Actor winner at the time.
In a recent interview on PBS’ Firing Line with Margaret Hoover, Richard Dreyfuss blasted the Academy’s inclusion rules…and he wasn’t holding back. “It’s an art. No one should be telling me as an artist that I have to give in to the latest, most current idea of what morality is. What are we risking? Are we really risking hurting people’s feelings? You can’t legislate that…You have to let life be life. I’m sorry, I don’t think there is a minority or majority in the country that has to be catered to like that.

Richard Dreyfuss criticized the Academy Awards’ new representation and inclusion standards for Best Picture nominees going into effect in 2024 during an interview on Friday for PBS’ Firing Line with Margaret Hoover.

When PBS executive Perry Simon took the stage at the PBS Television Critics Association press tour to talk about the new quarterly initiatives, it became clear that women are at the forefront of a sizeable chunk of PBS’s 2020 programming. That’s as part of PBS’s “Trailblazers” initiative centered around the celebration of women’s right to vote.
Simon, the chief programming executive and general manager, general audience programming, teased the upcoming programming, which includes, “suffragettes, the feminist movement, and modern changemakers.” Among the programming highlighted: “Pov: And She Could Be Next,” about candidates of color transforming politics from the ground up; Margaret Hoover, who will profile conservative women changing the face of the Republican party; and “Unladylike 2020,” which will feature notable American heroines, such as Mae West and Toni Morrison.
In June, “Great Performances” will feature plays about two strong female activists. Christine Lahti stars as Gloria Steinem in “Gloria: A Life,...

It was reported on Monday that the Trump administration has concocted a plan that involves sending 120,000 troops to the Middle East to counter a potential Iranian attack on American forces. Whatever threat may exist is almost entirely of the president’s own design. Since Trump rebuffed allies, experts and his own administration in removing the United States from the Iran nuclear deal last year, tension between the two nations has escalated steadily. Both have seemed especially jittery in the past few months as the U.S. continues to ramp up...

Caitlyn Jenner lives on the outer edges of Malibu, up a winding, tree-lined road leading to a modern mountaintop home. Her yellow Labrador, Bertha, happily skips across the white tile floors of her living room. The kitchen is pristine, with a refrigerator stocked with bottles of water and a counter holding a platter of chocolate-chip cookies and a bowl of M&Ms.
The world’s most famous transgender woman has retreated from the public spotlight that once engulfed her and the hounding paparazzi who once tracked her every move. In her first lengthy sit-down magazine interview in more than a year, Jenner speaks with Variety about her conscious choice to focus, unheralded, on being a behind-the-scenes advocate for transgender rights on Capitol Hill.
“I don’t do a lot of media. I don’t want to be seen everywhere,” the 68-year-old Jenner says on a recent afternoon, her bare feet up on a lounge chair.

Crtv host Allie Beth Stuckey said she won’t apologize for a satirical video she made of her “interviewing” Democratic Socialist congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
In a defiant video that was recorded from a moving car, Stuckey refused to back down on the doctored video and said journalists and “liberal blue check marks” who had flooded her inbox demanding a walk-back would be disappointed.
“I am not going to apologize because I am not sorry,” she said. “It’s Ok for someone who doesn’t hate Donald Trump to tell a joke.”
