He received bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering. He worked on the development of microwave tubes, television, and radar. He worked at Bell Labs in New Jersey and took graduate courses at Princeton University. While he was an assistant professor of electrical engineering at Ohio State University, he received a PhD in physics.
