I'll admit to once having been something of a Ninja Warrior addict - back in my university days, I would while away many an hour (when I probably should have been writing coursework) watching the original Japanese series, Sasuke, on Challenge.
So I was rather excited when ITV announced plans to bring the format to the UK - just as G4 / NBC had launched American Ninja Warrior in the Us some years previous.
British television - and ITV in particular - is crying out for a new light-entertainment format that's not another song-and-dance contest - and that has at least a little more class than the late, un-lamented Splash!.
Ninja Warrior UK seemed like a strong bet - but now that it's finally reached our screens, it's clear that this is not really the same show as Sasuke.
Ninja Warrior UK is here: Can it possibly be as tough as Japan and Us?...
