Apologies (again this week!) for the lateness of this "America's Got Talent" recap. I was very sick this week and did not work for two days. But I did receive lots of emails asking about this, so I decided to post one, even if it is late. I'm rolling the performance/results into one, though.

They start with a guy balancing on a tower of chairs while some other members limbo under fire. The fire is Ok, but the chair tower is pretty impressive. They move on to a human tower with guys wrapped around the tower members, It's hard to explain, but it's cool. That was good, if not quite as exciting as they usually are. It seemed a little slower. But still - very good, and let's not forget their video package explaining how one off their members died doing a stunt. It's very dangerous.

After the first night of performances by semifinalists, “America’s Got Talent” largely lived up to the assertion made by judge Piers Morgan that this year featured the most talent the show has ever seen. So tough was the competition, in fact, that the difference in voter turnout between two of the acts was less than one-tenth of a percent. Before that showdown reached its climax, however, Cannon brought out four acts whose support was decidedly more polarizing.

We'll never know if Sharon Osbourne would have voted for West Springfield Dance Team, a team she championed, or singer Daniel Joseph Baker, a young man she supported, on 'America's Got Talent's' results show.
When it came down to the judges voting on which act would advance, Howie Mandel and Piers Morgan voted for the dance team, making Osbourne's decision moot.
With superior dance troupe Miami All-Stars advancing it seemed like West Springfield might not make it.
Why did the judges vote the way they did?
"West Springfield Dance Team has hit a nerve with the trend of what young people are watching," Mandel says. "They also have had no time to put together [a new routine.] All the other [dance] team had three weeks. That's huge. I think it's easier to choose and perform a song than it is to choreograph and create a look."

After weeks of auditions, wild cards, and second chances, “America’s Got Talent” finally reached the semifinals Tuesday night, pitting newcomers to the competition against veterans as the contestants truly showcase how much talent they really have. The time for surprises is over; performers were forced to prove indisputably that they not only earned the right to be on stage, but that they deserved to stay there.
Zuma Zum opened the show with an impressive if uninspiring performance showcasing their trademark acrobatics.

The final quarterfinal results show for "America's Got Talent" should prove interesting. Should Charles Peachock not advance due to the judges' choice at the end, I shall not be recapping anymore - as I will have thrown my laptop through my TV and will have neither machine with which to recap anymore. (Update: *sigh*).
The first results group is Taylor Davis, Avery and the Calico Hearts, Frank Miles and Fatally Unique. Only Fatally Unique deserves to advance out of this group, so it's a good thing that's who advances! They are so happy, it brings tears to my eyes. And Piers is so kind to them, really praising how hard they have worked to improve. I will say - I'm surprised Fatally Unique was in the Top 3 vote-getters. I thought they would be in the judges' choice for sure.

The America’s Got Talent judges cast their vote once more on last night’s results show and this week, they have chosen another four acts to progress to the upcoming semi final stages.
Landau Eugene Murphy Jr, Lys Agnes, Poplyfe and Professor Splash all found themselves moving onwards and upwards and we were actually quite shocked that Seth Grabel didn’t make the cut.
However, the most heart wrenching moment of the night was when the cutest child we have ever seen, thought he and his childish rap group Sh’Boss Boys had made it through to the next round. The youngster let out a squeal of delight, on to have to endure groans of sympahty, as host Nick Cannon was forced to explain his true fate. The boy was going home.
The biggest decision of the night came when the panel had to choose between the two death defying acts of the week.

Well we picked two of them as our favourite acts from Tuesday night’s performance shows and it seems the judges felt the same, as they agreed to put Steven Retchless and Silhouettes through to the next round of America’s Got Talent.
Joining the two groups will be singer and pianist Daniel Joseph Baker and daredevil brothers Smage Bros. Riding Team.
All four acts impressed the judges (or most of them) on Tuesday, especially the Silhouettes dancing team, who stunned viewers and the panel alike with their patriotic America themed routine. Male pole dancer Steven Retchless split opinions, with Piers Morgan trying to buzz him off, while Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandell expressed their deep admiration for his craft.
Piers had called Silhouettes’s act ‘complete genius’ the night before and when putting on to the next stage last night, he raved:
“You guys were absolutely sensational last night!

Alright. If I had my way for the second quarterfinals of "America's Got Talent," I'd send through Silhouettes, Steven Retchless, Landon Swank and Smage Bros. I forgot about them last night, but I think they were pretty good and so many singing acts get through. But I do think Dani Shay and Daniel Joseph Baker were not bad.
Anyway, so let's see who advances.
The first group is The Rhinestone Ropers, Thomas John and Silhouettes. Do I even need to tell you how this one goes? Let's be serious. The little girls going absolutely out of their minds is pretty darn cute, though.
In the Orville Lounge bit, which is usually pretty dumb, Nick Cannon is super cute with the youngest Silhouettes member, asking if it's past her bedtime and then saying, "If y'all need help, I do a mean bunny" and he mimes a little bunny with his hand.

Silhouettes, Steven Retchless, Daniel Joseph Baker and Smage Bros. Riding Team have become the second group of acts to progress to the semi-finals stage of America's Got Talent's sixth season. The performers booked their place in the next round on tonight's live results episode of the NBC competition. Piers Morgan was thrilled about Silhouette's success, saying: "You guys were absolutely sensational last night! I just think that like the whole of America, I'm already excited about what you're going to do in the semi-final!" Retchless's advancement caused a split in the judging panel, with Sharon Osbourne showing great enthusiasm. Howie Mandel congratulated the pole dancer, but also advised him to tone down some of his "outrageousness" to appeal more to Middle America. Osbourne was also thrilled that Baker will (more)...

Last week on "America's Got Talent," we saw Anna Graceman, Sandou Trio Russian bar, Snap Boogie and the Miami All-Stars advance. Who will go through this week? Also - what in God's name is Nick Cannon wearing tonight? Somewhere Craig Sager is taking notes.
1. Attack Dance Crew
The crew tonight dances in some fun neon and black tracksuit things and their routine is much trickier than I remember them doing in the past. They work the musical cues very well and the stunts are neat, plus everybody is really synchronized in the wide shots. Good start to the show. Not the most amazing thing I've ever seen, but very solid. First, Piers rightly calls out Nick on his outfit. Hee. But Piers also says it was a bit of a mess in parts. Hmph. Sharon pans them a bit too. I wonder why I liked them so much. I really...

When we last left "America's Got Talent" Tuesday night, the judges had put through 30 or so acts from their Favorites category. Now it's the Stand-By acts turns to show their stuff and hopefully get one of the last 20 spots.
The Magicians are up first with a guy who looks like Ron Jeremy trying to twirl a staff and continually dropping it. How did he get through? A snake charmer magician's trick isn't quite ready in time. But Landon Swank finally nails it with a cool levitation trick. Seth Grabel tries to follow with a very elaborate show full of many tricks and it's pretty neat, except for one mishap. He could maybe still go through.
The Kids category, which is probably just going to kill me dead, is Lil T the dancing 6-year-old. He's cute, but it's all the same stuff he did in his audition. Avery and the Calico Hearts are next.

When we first met Daniel Joseph Baker on 'America's Got Talent' (Wed., 8Pm Et on Fox) he gave an impressive and over-the-top rendition of Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance.' In Vegas Week, though, he replaced sass with raw emotion in the opening lines of Gaga's 'Speechless,' though he turned up the showmanship with a bizarre foot drop onto the piano keys toward the end.
Regardless, Baker proved himself a powerhouse vocalist, blowing away the other male singers who were watching from backstage. Then he blew himself away by earning a spot in the Top 48. Now, in order to blow America, we think Baker should expand his repertoire beyond the musical stylings of Lady Gaga. We love her too, Baker, but we want you to stand separate from her.

Ever since his audition last Wednesday on America's Got Talent, we've been getting messages and emails from readers that we really need to be covering Daniel Joseph Baker. We even heard from the 19-year-old Katy, Texas native himself via tweet. (Daniel, consider yourself officially noticed!)
Now that he's made it past the audition process, we can't wait to see Daniel compete further on the talent show. As for that "Bad Romance" performance, here it is. Enjoy!

America’s Got Talent audition episodes are a lot more palatable at a crisp 60 minutes than in two-hour blocks. But since the temperature outside is surface-of-the-sun hideous, I didn’t mind the double dose of Houston and Minneapolis tryouts on Wednesday — even if it meant having to endure twice the amount of shameless mugging from Nick Cannon. Below, my picks for the best auditions from each of the featured cities. When you’re done reading, hit the comments and tell me if we shared the same favorites, or if you’d have picked different acts!

After an underwhelming Seattle episode, let's hope Houston and Minneapolis can bounce things back for "America's Got Talent."
The first audition from Houston is The Rhinestone Ropers, a Wild West skill show that may not be "Vegas" exactly but is impressive nonetheless. Dan does most of the actual tricks, with Melody acting as his victim assistant. Oops, spoke too soon as Melody shoots water balloons while spinning on a giant board. Very cool. They are through, of course.
The Ropers kick off a Good Montage: Mona Lisa, twin girls who sing "Killing Me Softly" and are decidedly better than those schmuck twins from last night; Charles Peachock, who juggles in black light, which is kinda meh for me, but he's through; and The Perfect Angels, a Hooters-esque dance troupe that has Piers drooling on his tie.
Daniel Joseph Baker is up next. He compares himself to Xtina, Lady Gaga and Nicole Scherzinger.

Here's what the panel had to say about some of the acts: The Highlights: The Rhinestone Ropers: The "Wild West skill show" duo earn gasps for their dangerous knife-throwing and gun shooting routine. Howie thinks that it brought "a whole array of entertainment" that's new to the show, while Piers thinks it was "really thoughtful". Sharon loves that it's "traditional American entertainment" and is exciting to watch. Well, after about two weeks, the Cannes Film Festival has just come to a close, and the jury has come in with what they think are the best of the best from this year’s festival.
Jury head Tim Burton and company have come in, and it appears as though they’ve picked some interesting choices. The Palme d’Or went to Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s film Uncle Boonme Who Can Recall His Past Lives. The film beat out Xavier Beauvois’ Of God And Men, with the latter garnering the most buzz as a possible Best Foreign Film Oscar contender this year. Big names have taken home the top acting prizes, with Javier Bardem and Juliette Binoche taking home best actor and actress for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s polarizing Biutiful and Abbas Kiarostami’s beloved Certified Copy respectfully. The final big award was also quite a shocking pick, as Best Director...

There was enormous surprise Sunday evening at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival where the Palme d’Or was awarded to Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s captivating Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. This film was co-produced by the UK, France, Germany and Spain. At 39, the director confirms his original talent previously lauded at Cannes with the Un Certain Regard Prize in 2002 for Blissfully Yours and the Jury Prize in 2004 for Tropical Malady.
With triple success for France and honours for Italy and Spain, Europe is also well-represented in a prize list that was apparently the subject of intense discussions. The Grand Prize went to Of Gods and Men by French director Xavier Beauvois , while his compatriot Juliette Binoche scooped Best Actress for Abbas Kiarostami’s Certified Copy. Mathieu Amalric completes the French haul with Best Director for On Tour (co-produced with Germany).
