We've long been fans of Eric Lim in these parts, the multi-talented man about town - he seems to fill different roles in pretty much every project he's involved with - first coming to our attention as producer of the brilliant tokusatsu themed indie short Zero Trooper F what seems like an eternity ago. And he's back again, this time as star of director Jon Truei's Secondary Education - a short film that fuses tokusatsu influences with the After School Special.Three high school students are forced to make up a chemistry test during after school detention. Over the course of the afternoon, they discover that their Chemistry teacher, Eugene Yamamoto, has been leading a secret double life as a crime-fighting Power Ranger. When an escaped...

The channel best known for its adorable commander-in-chief is taking on a heavier subject. Soul Pancake is the home of The Forge, an awe-inspiring short film where creator Eric Lim discusses his sister's suicide and offers emotional support to other people suffering from depression. The Forge unravels Tanya Lim's suicide with a metaphorical and special-effects laden production in which Eric must battle a demon who is simultaneously figurative and very real. "For anyone hurting like she was, use the pain," instructs Lim in the video. "Let good come from bad. It will hurt, the hits will never stop, they only get tougher, but so will you. And hopefully, someday, I will too." Lim is not the first creator to tackle the issue of suicide, but his effort is one of the most beautiful and haunting ones out there.

Here's a beautifully shot short film called The Forge that was made to send out a positive anti-suicide message. It's done in a visually explosive way. The movie was written and directed by Stephen Reedy, and it was inspired by the death of the sister of the film's star Eric Lim. She took her own life. This may be influenced by a tragic event, but this delivers an inspiring message of hope for anyone that is hurting, and it's told in a very stunning way. Here's a message from the director,
The Forge, an emotional, anti-suicide message in which a man battles his inner demon in a fight for his life.
You see... our friend’s sister, Tanya Lim, killed herself, leaving behind her savings to her brother and aspiring movie producer Eric. Eric felt the only appropriate use of this tragic gift was to make something both in her...

There are certain filmmakers here at Twitch that we feel a certain bond with, creators that have somehow crossed over the line of simply being someone who made something cool and have become a part of the extended family. Most of them we've never actually met and many of them we never will and yet there's some sort of weird emotional bond there. Eric Lim is one of those people. We first came across Eric back in 2008 when he and a group of friends at the University of Wisconsin turned out an absolutely fantastic pair of Japanese scifi inspired short films titled Greenside and Zero Trooper. They were smart and funny, deceptively polished on the technical side and positively oozed heart and soul. They were...

Eric Raymond Lim's short film Zero Trooper-f is now officially online. As a genius inventor and scientist, Bryan Abrams is the brain behind the super sentai hero, Zero Trooper-f's brawn. Byran is loved and adored by his family, his co-workers, and the greater area of Greenside City. However, it's not a feeling he reciprocates. Bryan's overwhelming feeling of unfulfilled desire comes to a breaking point at the worst time possible, during a giant monster attack. Starring Matt Sloan of the Youtube sensation, "Chad Vader". Zero Trooper-f is a short film created in Madison, Wisconsin by a collection of students and alumni of Univerysity of Wisconsin-Madison. Drawing from the influences of Hong Kong, Japanese, and American cinema, Zero Trooper-f is the work of a team that has a fondness for cinematic action and thrills... as well as tasteful comedy and drama. Ztf debuted at the Wisconsin Film Festival, 2008. If...

I've been wary of this ever since the first footage dropped, but considering it's source (producer Eric Lim who did Zero Trooper-f) I'll give it a chance. And yes, it does look like the smoke monster from Lost.
After losing contact with its researchers on a remote island, a military corporation hires a group of scientists and soldiers to find out what went wrong. But when they arrive, the team quickly discovers that the weapons testing performed on the island has unleashed and powerful and deadly entity that will stop at nothing to destroy them all.

Ah, it does me good to finally be able to post this.
A little while back the initial sales promo for Sam Gorski and Niko Pueringer’s debut feature film Infected leaked out, sparking a flurry of email to me at Twitch asking why we hadn’t run it. You see, we’ve been covering Pueringer and Gorski - and their regular producer Eric Lim - in these pages for a while now and I’m actually a co-producer on this film - co-producing in this case essentially boiling down to introducing key people and offering some notes on the script - so it struck some as odd that the teaser never appeared on Twitch. And, honestly, it stung a bit to hold it back here while seeing it turn up other places. But there were good reasons. First of all, that early teaser was never intended for public eyes...

Yes, I’m biased as all hell on this one - I’m in the credits as a co-producer - but today was my first chance to see footage from Niko Pueringor and Sam Gorski’s Infected, the feature debut from the team behind Greenside, working from a script by Broken and The Devil’s Chair scribe Simon Boyes. Now, this reel is completely raw - they’re still in principal photography right now and actually shot this and prepared some basic special effects for it while on set - but there’s an awful lot in there to like. The action sequences are convincing, there’s more martial arts featured than I expected, producer Eric Lim’s gone and gotten himself all roughed up for his on-screen role, the cast look solid and Gorski and Pueringor prove again to have a solid cinematic eye and unusual gifts when it comes to special effects.

Last week there were rumblings from the Twitch lab alluding that the core team behind the wildly inventive scifi short, Greenside, were moving into the world of feature filmmaking. Well, not only are they indeed moving into features, but Eric Lim and directors Niko Pueringor and Sam Gorski are doing it in style with an awesome looking scifi/horror hybrid called Infected.
The film tells the story of a group of researchers sent to a remote island where experimental research has unleashed an anamorphic creature with the ability to move quickly from host to host - hence the film’s title - destroying everything in its path.
Scripted by Simon Boyes (the guy that wrote The Devil's Chair and Blood River), Infected looks like a film we're gonna love and I honestly can't wait to see what these guys do with a little bit of moola behind them. Thanks to Twitch,...

Just last week we brought you the first official images from producer Eric Lim and directors Niko Pueringor and Sam Gorski’s Infected - the scifi horror hybrid feature length debut from the core team behind indie short Greenside - and this week we’ve got a quartet of poster images from the film. Scripted by Simon Boyes (Broken, The Devil’s Chair, Blood River) the film revolves around an experimental bio-weapon run amok on a sparsely populated island and is in production now.
When I posted the first stills from this last week I noted that I’m a co-producer on the project - though not a hugely hands-on one - and the Twitch connections actually get a little deeper with the arrival of this new artwork as all four poster images are the creations of one Omar Hauksson, who regular readers here will recognize as our very own Swarez.
