New House Speaker Mike Johnson is eager to send military aid to Israel but is not willing to prioritize aid to Ukraine as it continues to suffer under attack from Vladimir Putin’s army.
“We are going to move a stand-alone Israeli funding bill,” said Johnson during an appearance on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures. Johnson picked up the speaker’s gavel this week after the ouster of former GOP speaker Kevin McCarthy.

The bizarre cage match challenge between tech tycoons Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg just got a little stranger.
In the last 24 hours, UFC President Dana White and Musk have both confirmed separately that they have talked with the Italian Ministry of Culture to hold the match in Italy.
The upcoming fight dates back to surprise exchange between the X (formerly Twitter) owner Musk and Meta founder Zuckerberg back in June.
Talking on the latest episode of boxing legend Mike Tyson’s podcast Hotboxin’, White reconfirmed that he had met with officials at the Ministry of Culture to discuss holding the fight in Rome’s Colosseum.
“We were talking about the Colosseum, and I actually did have a meeting with the Ministry of Culture’s team in Italy to actually hold that fight in the Colosseum, if it would happen,” he said on the subject of the Musk-Zuckerberg fight.

Filter have announced their first new album in seven years, The Algorithm, arriving August 25th. The band has also offered up the new single “Obliteration” in advance of the LP’s release.
The track is a concise slab of noisy alt-rock that plays down Filter’s industrial leanings for a more pop-based arrangement. Frontman Richard Patrick’s vocals are hot in the mix, cutting through layers of guitar and pocketed drums. Although heavy and generally upbeat, it’s far from a cheery tune.
Sings Patrick: “Ashes circle the drain / And now it’s all that’s left / All that’s left of me / Sink my teeth in the pain / Watching the world go numb / And I’m just one step from obliteration.”
“Obliteration” was produced by Patrick and long-time collaborator Brian Virtue, while German-based filmmaker Atanas Shopski was tasked with projecting Patrick’s post-apocalyptic lyrical content in animated video form.

The end is drawing near for Ministry, according to frontman Al Jourgensen.
The mastermind behind the pioneering industrial act discussed the band’s future in a new interview with Yahoo! Entertainment. He suggested that he’d put an end to Ministry — who celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2021 — within the “next couple of years,” after recording another album or two.
“I view it as almost like karmic, where my career is winding down with Ministry,” he said. “I’m going to stop Ministry in an album or two. I have other things I want to do and I’m really kind of now shackling myself [to the band] … So, I figure there’s only maybe one more Ministry album to go.”
“Maybe two,” he continued, “but probably one; the second one might actually be a remake of [Ministry’s debut album] With Sympathy, to tie a bow on the whole thing. I think this...

David Hasselhoff dropped a sprightly rendition of Jesus and Mary Chain’s “Head On” featuring the Cars’ Elliot Easton on guitar. The shoegaze cover will appear on Hasselhoff’s upcoming LP Open Your Eyes, out September 27th via Cleopatra Records.
The Baywatch icon stays true to the original “Head On,” which Jesus and Mary Chain released as a single in 1989, complete with synths, drum machine and layers upon layers of guitar feedback. “Makes you want to feel makes you want to try,” Hasselhoff sings, his voice swelling over a searing riff.

Two years after Ministry released their debut album, the major label synthpop LP With Sympathy, they attempted to return to their roots with 1985’s “(Every Day Is) Halloween” a single that celebrated all things goth. It’s a fairly straightforward New Wave number on which frontman Al Jourgensen ruminates on how people would stop and ask him why he’s dressed like it’s Halloween, “You look so absurd, you look so obscene.” It became something of an underground anthem, but Jourgensen abandoned it shortly after pushing the band in...

Special Mention: Shock Corridor
Written and directed by Samuel Fuller
USA, 1963
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Shock Corridor stars Peter Breck as Johnny Barrett, an ambitious reporter who wants to expose a killer hiding out at the local insane asylum. In order to solve the case, he must pretend to be insane so they have him committed. Once in the asylum, Barrett sets to work, interrogating the other patients and keeping a close eye on the staff. But it’s difficult to remain a sane man living in an insane place, and the closer Barrett gets to the truth, the closer he gets to insanity.
Shock Corridor is best described as an anti-establishment drama that at times is surprisingly quite funny despite the dark material. The film deals with some timely issues of the era, specifically the atom bomb, anti-communism, and racism. It features everything from a raving female love-crazed nympho ward,...

After twelve years of work on A.I. Artificial Intelligence, the great master Stanley Kubrick passed away. He had already handed the directing reins of the project to Steven Spielberg, who saw the film through to release in 2001, an apt year for Kubrick’s final project. For that is what this film is. While A.I. is undeniably directed by Spielberg, complete with his trademark style of lighting and camera movement, it is also undeniably dominated by the mind of Kubrick. What should have been the penultimate collision of two filmic pioneers, however, is an unfortunate miss.

Hardware
Directed by Richard Stanley
Written by Richard Stanley
Uk / USA – 1990
Upon its initial release, Hardware was dismissed by most as a rip-off of The Terminator, but in fact, the film was actually inspired by a 2000 Ad comic called Shok! Walter’s Robo-Tale. Richard Stanley’s bizarre post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller has rightfully earned a cult following through the years and for sci-fi fans growing up in the 90s, Hardware was a hidden gem that found an audience on VHS.
The low-budget indie horror has its roots in earlier films featuring killer robots, but adds components of spaghetti westerns, 80′s slashers, and even ’70s exploitation cinema – and the bag of influences results in a film which is, in many ways, very original.
Stanley stretches his shoestring budget to impressive lengths, creating a despairing, barren future under blood-red skies, radiation clouds and desert wastelands. Despite being restricted by financial realities, Hardware still...

The Oscars isn't just about the big stars: boasting a vast range of categories, it's also an opportunity for the craft of film-making to take the spotlight. Here, we speak to four acclaimed film technicians about the challenges of their work and what the ceremony means to them
Clean sweeps at the Oscars always start with the early technical categories. If a hotly fancied film, such as The King's Speech, wins in editing, production design and music, then it's pretty likely the film's headed for a hefty haul, somewhere around the eight Oscars that went to Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire.
Such domination by one film tends to be rather dull for the spectator, particularly if you don't like the film, or if you happen to be nominated in categories against that film. Oscar veterans can spot an on-rushing tide and have the rictus muscles trained for the moment the...

• Brooks Barnes wonders, "If awards shows are experiencing a renaissance, why are the Globes struggling?" His answer: "NBC is no longer a ratings powerhouse. Because of the saturation of celebrity news coverage, the telecast’s primary draw -- a room full of A-listers -- may be losing its allure. And while the producers talk about the coming show’s “anything goes” vibe, stars in the YouTube era are more self-conscious." The solution: "Cramming even more stars into the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton hotel; hiring a host -- the British actor and comedian Ricky Gervais -- for the first time in 15 years; broadcasting the ceremony live from coast to coast; mixing up the order of the awards; following the telecast with an after-party show; and turning up the volume on the marketing." Finally we can all relax; we’re officially living in the future – at least according to the 1992 dystopian sci-fi thriller Freejack, directed by Geoff Murphy (The Quiet Earth) and starring Emilio Estevez, Rene Russo, Anthony Hopkins and… Mick Jagger!
Set on the 23rd November 2009, it envisions a desperate future where men are hunted through time to house the minds of the rich and influential, who wait after death on the Spiritual Switchboard until a host body is drafted from the past. Estevez is one such host, or Freejack, as he’s zipped from a car crash in 1993 all the way to… now… where he’s chased around by Mick Jagger, playing a bounty hunter (‘Bonejacker’) called Vacendak, working for Hopkins. Estevez escapes and tries to find his former girlfriend (Russo), who’s become an executive at a huge corporation. The film is based on Immortality Inc. by author Robert Sheckley,...

You Can't Stop Progress. Hardware Directed by Richard Stanley In a post-apocalyptic future somewhere in a radioactive desert, terminally ill Moses Baxter (Dylan McDermott) has just returned from scavenging for whatever waste he may find that could be of use to him either back home or for sale. Along his journey he discovers some robotic parts from some unknown android which he brings to his dope-smoking sculptor girlfriend Julie (Stacey Travis) as a Christmas present. She incorporates it into her latest piece, but neither of them is aware that the hardware is actually a robot programmed to kill humans. After settling in and reconnecting following his long absence, their reunion is cut short when the robot awakens, reassembles itself and resumes its original purpose as a government-sponsored population control droid. Despite few similarities, Hardware was dismissed by most as a rip-off of The Terminator. In fact, the film was heavily...

Every week, MTV Newsroom editor Kyle Anderson runs an in-office poll on the topic du jour. The idea is to acquaint you readers with some of the crazy people who inhabit the MTV newsroom. Last week's poll asked the difficult question: what is your favorite film soundtrack of all time?
As you've likely already figured out, that's a particularly relevant topic for MTV Movies Blog. I didn't have much trouble with my pick: "Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight." Here's what I had to say to the Newsroom audience:
"This one is easy for me, though it may earn me a few behind-the-back snickers around the office. The soundtrack to "Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight" remains my favorite to this day. It dropped while I was in high school, and every track was something I wanted to go home and crank up to 11. Let's start with the face-melting crunch: Sepultura,...

Welcome to the weekly Newsroom Poll, where we will give you a sneak peek into the lives and minds of some of the correspondents, writers, editors and producers here at MTVNews.com. Every week, they'll answer a poll question that will reveal some of what we talk about behind the scenes here in the newsroom. Enjoy!
This week, details surfaced about one of the most hotly anticipated albums of the fall. No, not Jay-z's The Blueprint 3 or Lil Wayne's Rebirth. We're talking about the soundtrack to "New Moon," which will likely feature contributions from Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Muse, Kings of Leon and Death Cab for Cutie. There was also the announcement of the soundtrack to "Jennifer's Body," the new Diablo Cody-penned horror film. With that, combined with the quarter-century anniversary of one of the finest film soundtracks ever constructed (that being Prince's Purple Rain), this week's question is:...

When Al Jourgensen an Co. hit the road in 2008 for the C*U*Latour, the cameras were rolling to capture the experience of Ministry's "Final World Tour."
Assembled into Adios..., an audio version of the set was released in March containing 13 songs from select dates on the tour. More intriguing, however was the prospect of the double-dvd set, which arrives in stores today.
Containing 15 songs recorded live in Serbia, Warsaw, Los Angeles, Chicago, Germany, Czech Republic and Slovenia, Disc 1 En Vivo captures the final incarnation of the band at their brutal finest - on stage and tearing it up with mechanical precision, while captivating the sweat-soaked masses.
Disc 2 Fuchi Requiem features around 50 minutes of documentary footage, offering a candid look at life on the road, and a look inside the ranch of Buck Satan himself.
While most of the performance footage leans toward the end of Ministry's recorded career,...

When people ask me to ramble off the names of my favorite bands, there’s a few that I always mention. Faith No More. Helmet. Clutch. And Prong.
Prong first hit my radar in the early 1990’s. I was in high school, and MTV still played music. A weekend staple was always Headbangers Ball, and it was through that show that Prong first hit my ears during the era of their 1991 Epic Records release Prove You Wrong.
The music was powerful, heavy, yet uncluttered. The bass groove was infectious, the drums precise, and the guitar and vocals of front man Tommy Victor was the icing on the cake. Being a sophomore in High School at the time, I had my dad take me down to the local “CD Exchange” in search of the band’s earliest works.
After months of searching, I’d been able to go back to the beginning.

Last year, a movie called Wicked Lake came out. It was a horrible, torture/rape-porn low-budget flick that should, and likely is, quickly plummeting beneath the torrent of worth-while movies out there. The only thing that makes it worth mention at all -aside from something to mock and shudder away from --is the incredibly sterling soundtrack created to accompany it. It, and it’s producer/composer (who makes a brief appearance as a porn-loving art professor in the film) are phenomenal examples of how underground music can augment a film, raising it from just another slasher flick to something independent yet on par with a major studio release… if it’s a worth-while one. Rather than subject the movie to a written equivalent of one of the rapes it so prominently showcases, I’m going to focus on the music.
