The New York-based seafood restaurant Hav & Mar features a contemporary interior design and elaborate artwork of Black mermaids lining the walls. On a recent afternoon, the restaurant’s renowned celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson isn’t around, but Atlanta rapper Anycia is here with her small entourage, including close collaborator and producer jetsonmade. Over the past year, the 26-year-old has rapidly risen with the vibrant personality and entrancing baritone that many people first heard during her On the Block performance of “Brb.” Anycia tells me that her prevailing memory of the moment is her fashion choice.

J. Cole has offered a reply to Kendrick Lamar’s guest verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” which saw the rapper taking shots at Drake and J. Cole. Drake sort of responded to the diss on his current tour, but Cole took a more direct approach with “7 Minute Drill.”

Music managing mogul Deb Antney is on the hunt for the world’s next female rap star.
Deb’s House, a new unscripted series that follows Antney on her search will debut on Allblk, the streaming service for Black television and film from AMC Networks, this summer. AMC Networks made the announcement during Tuesday’s Television Critics Association panel.
According to AMC, the series will feature eight up-and-coming female artists who move into a shared house to compete to become Antney’s next “rap protégé.”
In additional to exceptional lyricism, Antney will also be on the lookout for dedication and the willingness to make sacrifices on the road to hip-hop stardom.

21 Savage’s third solo album, American Dream, begins with his mother, Heather Joseph, describing her family’s emigration from Britain to America during his childhood. “Every path that I walked was for my son,” she tells us. (Big Rube of Dungeon Family fame penned her introduction.) It’s a concept many others have used before, most famously by Jay-Z and his mother Gloria Carter on “December 4th” from 2003’s The Black Album.

It was a family affair for superstar songstress Mariah Carey as she brought her Merry Christmas One and All! tour to the Hollywood Bowl for two sold-out shows on Nov. 17 and 19.
Joining the superstar onstage both nights were her 12-year-old twins (with Nick Cannon), Moroccan and Monroe, or “Roc and Roe,” as the singer put it. Carey’s daughter, Monroe, joined her mom for a duet on a soaring “Jesus Born on This Day,” from Carey’s 1994 holiday album Merry Christmas, with Monroe also fronting a rollicking version of The Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping.” Moroccan made a brief appearance for “Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane).” Upbeat versions — complete with all the “zhuzh,” Carey noted — of her Christmas standards started out the set list with cheer.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and music go together like the Ninja Turtles and pizza; the two are intrinsically linked. From the iconic theme song of the 1987 animated series, to Vanilla Ice’s tie-in “Ninja Rap” for 1991’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, and even their semi-forgotten 1990 stage rock and roll musical Coming Out of Their Shells, no matter the genre, these green teens are always rocking big tunes.
With music playing such a big role in the Turtles’ history, director Jeff Rowe and executive producer Seth Rogen had to be extra thoughtful when selecting the songs for the soundtrack of the Turtles’ latest film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. With its distinctive animation style, the feature film finds our pizza-loving Turtles escaping their sheltered existence in the sewers as they seek to be accepted as normal teenagers through acts of heroism.

St. Louis native Sexyy Red does it with her foot on the gas. The 25-year-old rapper’s music is unabashed fun. She’s a classic Southern rapper with a sticky and viscous flow and an anachronistic approach to music. She abstains from traditional lyricism or liquid singing for one-sentence phrases or personal and sexual anecdotes that are meant for fans to call back to her onstage. Her hooks are her greatest talent, allowing the listener to sing along with her. You insert your rambunctious fun along with her; you sing...

It was August 2021 when Travis Scott and A24 each shared the coffee- and blood-stained script for an unnamed project commencing his production deal with the studio. Details were scant, notwithstanding Variety‘s note that the film would “align with Scott’s upcoming album” Utopia. (The rapper’s fans quickly sleuthed said script’s either called as much or Dystopia.) It was ten months later that Scott posted two Instagram stories with four things that go well together: body armor, guns, masks, and Harmony Korine.
All of which is to say signs were before us that something was cooking, and today we’ve learned Korine directed Scott in an action-oriented feature film “shot entirely in infrared” which recently screened at Metrograph.
Curiously, Metrograph has also advertised for members this coming Sunday’s “only ever screening of a very special filmmaker’s secret new project,” leaving one to wonder if Korine’s...

03 Greedo is back home. After his return from a Texas county jail in January, the L.A. rapper released Halfway There, a 33-track odyssey replete with Greedo’s melodic flourishes. He followed it up by performing at South by Southwest in Austin and, in June, a two-night stint at the Novo in Los Angeles — a venue that marked a kind of homecoming. “The show was turnt up. Both sold out. A lot of rappers popped out for me,” Greedo explains. “The city hasn’t seen that for a while.” While in prison,...

Oscar-nominated John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) is attached as showrunner and writer for the potential third series, which comes after the success of Interview With the Vampire and Mayfair Witches.
"The series is set in the world of the Talamasca, a secretive organization featured in a number of Rice's iconic novels that is devoted to studying the supernatural world and keeping mortals safe from its darkest elements," the logline teases.

We tv is expanding its slate with one new scripted drama and one new reality series. “Toya & Reginae” is a new reality series that centers around rapper Lil Wayne’s ex-wife, Toya Johnson-Rushing, and their daughter, Reginae Carter, while “Bev Is Boss” is a narrative show about music managing mogul Deb Antney. Head of programming Dan McDermott announced the news Tuesday as part of AMC Networks’ upfronts.
Of the two projects, “Toya & Reginae” falls more in line with We tv’s previously existing slate of unscripted content. The series will showcase the highs and lows of a mother-daughter duo that’s been in the spotlight for years. It promises to give fans a peak behind what they see on social media as it explores their love lives, careers, family dynamics and their “seemingly dysfunctional family.”

Today, AMC Networks’ We tv announced greenlights for two brand-new series, “Toya & Reginae” and “Bev is Boss.”
“Toya & Reginae,” the network’s new, unscripted reality TV show, will spotlight the ex-wife and daughter of hip hop legend Lil Wayne, Toya Johnson-Rushing and Reginae Carter. The series comes as an extension of We tv’s successful “Growing Up Hip Hop” franchise as both Johnson-Rushing and Carter have appeared in the series.
“I’m so excited to let viewers back into our lives to see what my family has been up to since you’ve seen us last,” said Johnson-Rushing.
Their new show will pull back the curtain into the lives of the high profile mother-and-daughter duo, proving that “as happy as they seem on social media, their lives are unpredictable and full of chaos,” per the network’s official release.
“Toya & Reginae” will air this fall exclusively on We tv and sister steamer Allblk.

While working on her Oscar-winning biopic Judy, Renée Zellweger had an awkward mishap while filming a kissing scene.
When she and her co-star Finn Wittrock locked lips, Zellweger’s prosthetic nose broke and oozed glue, which went onto Wittrock’s face.
“I did not know until this kissing scene and I look at him with horror and I realise, ‘Am I more upset that I got that on his face – and we haven’t cut so I can’t be touching his face in a way to try and get it off – or that it’s attached to my head and there’s so much more where that came from?'” said Zellweger.
“The glue and the thing and the chemicals or something, I don’t know, and some of it would just sneak out the crevice [on the side].”
