Audience members disliked Saffron Burrows’ character in the 1999 shark thriller Deep Blue Sea so much, last minute reshoots were done specifically to kill her off in the climactic sequence. Here’s hoping things go better for her character in the upcoming Irish horror film The Morrigan, which Deadline reports has secured financing and is set to start filming on November 6th.
A feature expansion of a 16 minute short film writer/director Colum Eastwood (Black Medicine) made back in 2015, The Morrigan will follow a successful archaeologist but absentee mother who travels to Ireland to excavate a centuries old tomb. However, within the site lurks a danger hidden from mankind for centuries. Once it is unleashed she must battle to save her rebellious teenage daughter from possession by a vengeful ‘Pagan War Goddess’, known as The Morrigan.

New Delhi, July 26 (Ians) Doctors on Wednesday said that they are seeing a record surge in cases of conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye, as well as dengue in the national capital.
The sudden rise in conjunctivitis cases can be attributed to the heavy rainfall and floods that have affected various regions in the country.
The increased moisture, moderate adequate temperature and unhygienic conditions due to the floods, contaminated water supply, and importantly, aerosoling (microdrops) of dirty water from roads by fast moving vehicles create a conducive environment for the spread of the infection, they say.
“We are closely monitoring the sudden surge of conjunctivitis cases across the country, with Delhi Ncr alone reporting a staggering 1,032 cases in July. The rise in numbers compared to the same period last year (July 2022), when Delhi Ncr had 646 cases and nationwide had 1,202 cases, is a cause of concern,” Dr Kamal B Kapur, Medical Director,...

Mumbai, June 22 (Ians) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci) on Thursday invited fresh applications to fill one vacant position in the Men’s Selection Committee, setting June 30 as the deadline for submission of the same.
The move comes after Chetan Sharma resigned in February as the chief selector, following a sting operation conducted by a TV news channel, where he shared internal information about the team and selection process. It was Sharma’s second term as chairman of selectors which ended in less than two months, after taking charge in January this year.
With Sharma’s resignation, the selection committee was reduced to four functioning members, with Shiv Sunder Das taking charge as interim chief selector working alongside Salil Ankola, Subroto Banerjee and S Sharath.
The Bcci said the qualification and experience criteria for applicants is they must have played at least seven Tests or 30 first-class matches,...

New Delhi, April 29 (Ians) Even as the last three years of Covid-pandemic, has among many things, severely affected routine immunisation of children, health experts on Saturday urged the need to catch up on the time lost.
World Immunisation Week, celebrated in the last week of April, aims to highlight the collective action needed to protect people from vaccine-preventable diseases.
An estimated 67 million children missed their routine immunisation, entirely or partially, between 2019 and 2021 including 48 million not receiving any vaccine, according to Unicef’s State of the World’s Children report released last week.
“Fear of exposure, disruption of healthcare services, misinformation, economic challenges and focus on controlling Covid-19, led to a significant decline in vaccination rates for both adults and children,” Nameet Jerath, Senior Consultant, Paediatric Pulmonolgy and Critical Care, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, told Ians.

New Delhi, April 18 (Ians) Even as summers have set in, India has started seeing extreme heat waves, which can be deadly especially for children, pregnant women and elderly, doctors said here on Tuesday.
On Monday, about 36 weather stations across the country, particularly in central and north India, recorded temperatures above 42 degrees Celsius.
Delhi registered a maximum temperature of 40.6 degrees Celsius, four notches higher than normal — the third consecutive day that the maximum temperature settled above 40 degrees Celsius.
Talking to Ians, Dr Anup Latne, Consultant Internal Medicine, Surya Mother and Child Super Speciality Hospital Pune, said: “Extreme heat can be deadly, especially in India, where many lack access to adequate cooling.”
While the effect of heatwaves on a human body can differ person to person, “children, pregnant women and senior citizens should take additional precaution to mitigate the effect of severe heat, and avoid going outdoors during the day”.

There are over 30,000 active cases across the country with 6,155 new Covid cases recorded on Saturday (April 8). The daily positivity rate crossed 5 per cent on a national average and stood at 5.63 percent. The weekly positivity rate stood at 3.47 per cent, said the health ministry.
Looking at the flip side, according to the health ministry data, India reported nine fatalities making the total death count stand at 5,30,954. The number of discharged people stood at 4.41 crore as per data shared by the ministry on Saturday.
Even though the data on the vaccination rate in the country is very encouraging, a lot of factors are still playing a major role in keeping back people from getting themselves vaccinated. Apprehensions of side effects to a lot of false information that has surfaced over time are adding to the fear of vaccination among people.

New Delhi, March 1 (Ians) Doctors on Wednesday reported a rise in flu cases in the national capital with patients showing high grade fever and persistent cough lasting for about two weeks.
Speaking to Ians, Sushila Kataria, Senior Director, Internal Medicine, Medanta, noted that the cases pertain to the H3N2 variant of Influenza A virus.
“The typical symptoms include high grade fever for two-three days, body ache and headache, throat irritation, and a majorly persistent cough lasting for two weeks,” Kataria said.
According to Indian Council of Medical Research (Icmr) data, H3N2, a sub-type of the influenza virus, has been in wide circulation for the last two-three months.
Harshal R. Salve, Professor at the Centre for Community Medicine, Aiims, said the increase in the transmission of flu virus is due to abrupt “climatic conditions currently prevalent”.

New York, Dec 5 (Ians) Children in the US are ditching alcohol for marijuana as a 20-year national study shows a massive 245 per cent increase in adolescent cannabis abuse, while alcohol abuse has steadily declined over the same period.
While rates of all marijuana abuse increased, edible marijuana showed the highest average monthly increase compared with all other forms, suggesting that adolescents have moved away from smoking weed onto alternative modes of consumption.
The majority of ingestions occurred in males (58.3 per cent), and more than 80 per cent of all reported exposure cases occurred in young people aged 13 to 18, according to a peer-reviewed study published in the journal Clinical Toxicology.
The study found over 338,000 instances of intentional abuse or misuse among American children aged 6-18.
In total, over 32 per cent of instances resulted in “worse than minor clinical outcomes”.
“Ethanol abuse cases exceeded the number of marijuana cases every year from 2000 until 2013,” said Adrienne Hughes,...

Julie Plec is ramping up her development slate and has put a slew of projects into the pipeline including an adaptation of YA novel Running Out of Time at Peacock.
It comes after a number of shows from The Vampire Diaries co-creator were axed earlier this spring including Legacies, Roswell, New Mexico and The Endgame.
Plec and her production banner My So-Called Company signed a mega-multi-year overall deal with Universal Television in 2020. She said that when she signed that deal she told the studio that she believes in “earning my keep” and added that “this slate reflects that promise”.
The first project set is Clifton, based on Margaret Peterson Haddix’s Running Out of Time. The series, which is in the works at NBCU streamer Peacock, follows 17-year-old Jazzie Smith, who was born and raised in the idyllic, island village of Clifton – a sanctuary for runaway slaves and others who...

Today, the more-infectious Omicron BA.5 subvariant is officially the dominant Covid strain in the U.S. Up until how, BA.5 has been tied to its sister Omicron subvariant, BA.4, as both had steadily outcompeted BA.2.12.1 — which itself had been driving cases for the past month or so.
After the original Omicron variant appeared on U.S. shores late last year and caused the deadliest wave of the pandemic, a succession of Omicron subvariants have come and gone: BA.1.1, BA.2, BA.2.12.1 and now BA.4 and BA.5.
BA.5 was first identified in South Africa on February 26. Less than a month ago, on June 4, it only accounted for 9.6 of cases in the U.S., while predecessor BA.2.12.1 sat atop the heap at 62. Today, the CDC estimates the subvarient is responsible for about 54 of new cases here. That’s double BA.2.12.1, which now accounts for 27 of infections. BA.5’s rise also leaves sister subvariant BA.

"The Crow" soundtrack is quite possibly the greatest alt-rock compilation assembled in the '90s. Coupled with Graeme Revell's hauntingly moving score, bands like The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, The Jesus and Mary Chain and Machines Of Loving Grace perfectly complimented the movie's dark and romantic themes.
Even the bands who contributed cover songs selected material that lined up well with the flick, intentionally or not. Nine Inch Nails covered "Lost Souls," by one of The Crow creator James O'Barr's favorite bands, Joy Division. Rollins Band did a version of Suicide's "Ghost Rider," about the Marvel hero. Pantera...
