In "He Lost His Hat", the first movie he ever produced, Hayman paid future star Gilbert M. 'Broncho Billy' Anderson $5 to chase his hat down 125th street in New York City. The film was a hit even though it only had a running time of 60 seconds.
Became associated with D.W. Griffith and the Biograph Company.
In September of 1942 he participated in a war bond drive event that involved flaming effigies of the Axis powers leaders going over Niagara Falls. The event raised almost three million dollars.
At the time of his death was president of the Cataract Theater Corporation in Niagara Falls, NY.
