The 2000s were the heyday of network procedurals centered around oddball geniuses. While Hugh Laurie's Dr. House verbally excoriated his patients before saving their lives from rare diseases, elsewhere on prime-time, Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) solved murders through bones alone. "Bones" ran for an impressive 12 seasons on Fox before signing off in 2017, but half a decade later it's still a much-rewatched favorite among fans. While other famously eccentric TV geniuses have either been based on only the thinnest true story or are total fictions, Dr. Brennan is a rarity, as she's based on a real person.
Forensic anthropologist, professor, and author Kathy Reichs is the direct inspiration for Dr. Brennan, and she also quite literally wrote the book on the character: "Bones" is based on Dr. Reichs' still-ongoing novel series, which began in 1997 with the book "Deja Dead." Though there are considerable biographical and personality differences between the Bones we see on screen,...

Casey Anthony is telling her side of the story in a new documentary, Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies, that will air on Peacock November 29.
This will be the first time since the 2008 disappearance of her daughter, Caylee Anthony, that Casey will sit down for an interview. She did not even testify during the 2011 trial where she was found not guilty of first-degree murder after six weeks of proceedings.
Casey was found guilty, however, of four misdemeanor counts for providing false information to investigators and ultimately served prison time.
“I lied,” Casey said in the documentary’s official trailer. “But no one asked why.”
Casey is rumored to place the blame for Caylee’s death on her father, saying he staged her drowning and covered up the death because he might have been abusing the 2-year-old girl.
In 2017, the judge who presided over Casey’s trial told Hln Casey probably killed her daughter by accident.

Anthony was found not guilty of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony, in July 2011 after a highly publicized trial. Anthony did not testify in her own trial, and her acquittal outraged much of the nation. Now, for the first time on camera, Anthony will sit down to share her side of the story. The official trailer, above, begins with the 9-1-1 call (“my daughter’s been missing for the last 31 days”) and shows some of the questions she’ll be facing. “I lied,” Anthony says at one point. “But no one asked why.

Jury duty may be over, but the memories are still in session. In the summer of 2011, millions of Americans were glued to their TVs as seven women and five men were sworn in as jurors and later had to determine the fate of Casey Anthony. For close to two months, prosecutors tried to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Casey was responsible for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony. After 33 days of testimony, the jury ultimately voted not to convict. While many have kept a low-profile after the controversial verdict, one male jury member is speaking out to People and sharing regret about his decision. The parents of acquitted murderer Casey Anthony are headed back to court — but this time George and Cindy Anthony are facing a foreclosure lawsuit and may lose the home where their late granddaughter Caylee was last seen alive. The couple tried to mediate with the bank in their hometown in Florida but failed. George and Cindy currently owe $130,000 on the property and are scheduled to appear in front of a judge on August 10, according to court documents obtained by Radar Online. Their home played a crucial role in Casey's murder trial, as her defense attorney Jose Baez claimed the two-year-old drowned in the family's swimming pool and that Casey's father George found the body and helped dispose of it. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) "How in the world can a mother wait 30 days before ever reporting her child missing? Very little is known about Casey Anthony's brother Lee Anthony in the years since her headline-making trial in 2011, but all we know is that they did not have a typical brother-sister relationship — and Lee played very big role in the way the her trial played out. Seven years ago, Casey was facing charges in the 2008 death of her daughter Caylee Anthony, and Casey's own brother took the stand against her. Lee claimed Casey had kept her daughter Caylee from the family because she was a "spiteful b---h," and he also described the smell in Casey's car as "offensive" on the witness stand, and prosecutors believed that it was the smell of a decaying body allegedly belonging to Caylee. Mystery solved? A decade later, it's still not known why Casey Anthony allegedly waited a month before reporting her daughter Caylee Anthony missing — but her attorney Jose Baez had a theory behind the little girl's disappearance during her mom's murder trial: She drowned in the family's swimming pool. In 2008, Casey was charged with first degree murder, aggravated manslaughter of a child, aggravated child abuse and providing false information to law enforcement after her two-year-old daughter's body was found amid claims she was kidnapped by the babysitter. During opening statements at Casey's trial, her lawyer seemingly provided jurors with all the answers, including the exact date of her death and an explanation. Many people were shocked in 2011 when a Florida jury acquitted Casey Anthony of murder in the 2008 death of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee. Anthony was, however, found guilty of four misdemeanor counts of lying to police, and Judge Belvin Perry Jr. sentenced her to four years in prison, one year for each count. And because he ordered the four years would be served consecutively, Judge Perry imposed the maximum jail time he possibly could. His ruling surprised legal expert Jeffrey Toobin, who observed, "Most people convicted of misdemeanors do not get prison time." But because Anthony had already served approximately three years in prison — and because she had exhibited good behavior — she only owed 10 more days in prison at the time of her sentencing. "I don't know how free she's going to be (but) she's going to be out a cage," defense attorney Cheney Mason said after Anthony's sentencing, per CNN.

In his 2013 book Presumed Guilty, attorney Jose Baez said he was still "haunted" by the mystery of who killed two-year-old Caylee Anthony and left her body in the woods in 2008. "This fact disturbs me greatly," he wrote. "It's the one fact that will never change. You don't do that to a baby. Whoever put Caylee there, I curse you." A few years later, however, the case haunted him in a different way. That's when a private investigator had the media questioning how Casey Anthony paid for her lawyer fees when she didn't have a job. Baez and Anthony certainly seemed close, but in an affidavit, Dominic Casey said they were even closer than they apperanced. He said the Florida mother paid Baez with sexual favors. Of all the damning things that Casey Anthony did following her daughter Caylee Anthony's disappearance, entering a hot body contest is by far one of the most puzzling. If anything, it's because it extends so far outside the scope of what one would expect from a grieving mother. Then again, Casey Anthony hardly ever behaved within the confines of conventionally expressed grief. To be frank, she often looked happy during her trial, where she faced the death penalty for first-degree murder. Was that all an act to placate jurors into thinking she was in shock or mentally unstable? Or was the Casey Anthony we saw take the stand in 2011, truly who she is: an apathetic, selfish woman with little regard for the law, let alone the death of her two-year-old daughter? On Aug. 28, 2003, 46-year-old Brian Wells sat cross-legged in front of a cop car with a bomb locked around his neck with a metal collar. The pizza deliveryman had just robbed a bank, and his alleged co-conspirators had tasked him with an impossible scavenger hunt. Then, the device exploded, killing this so-called "Pizza Bomber." Now, 15 years later, new Netflix docuseries Evil Genius: The True Story of America's Most Diabolical Bank Heist revisits the bizarre case with first-hand testimony from the people who were on the scene. As the commonly held version of events goes, Wells thought he'd be wearing a fake bomb, but his alleged co-conspirators forced a real bomb on him under gunpoint, locking the collar around his neck. Wells then went to a Pnc Bank location with a homemade shotgun and demanded $250,000. Then, according to the instructions given to him, he was to complete a series of tasks to buy himself more time.
