Night's big winner put white-carpet spotlight on repealing 'don't ask, don't tell.'

When Lady Gaga arrived at the 2010 Video Music Awards on Sunday, she did so with her usual aplomb — in a dress by the late Alexander McQueen — but, for perhaps the first time ever, it was her entourage that grabbed the headlines.
Of course, Gaga wanted it that way. She walked the white carpet flanked by servicemen and women who had been discharged from the U.S. Air Force and Army for being openly gay or bisexual, a violation of the long-standing "don't ask, don't tell" policy. And when she stopped to talk with MTV News' Sway, she let viewers know exactly how she feels about the policy.
"I'm here for a very, very important cause today. These are all my friends, and they're with Sldn.

Gaga met the discharged soldiers last week in Washington, D.C.

You have to hand it to Lady Gaga. In addition to being a record-setting winner at Sunday night's Video Music Awards, the international pop icon is a woman of conviction.
Case in point. Last Tuesday, during the Washington, D.C., stop on her Monster Ball Tour, Gaga, a longtime gay-rights advocate, told her team that she wanted to meet with some members of the U.S. Armed Services who had been discharged because they are openly homosexual. Gaga was interested in learning more about the recent push to repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy instigated by a California judge's ruling last week that the Clinton-era military rule was unconstitutional and a vote by the House to repeal the legislation.

Morning Meme: Laugh With "Raising Hope," Lady Gaga Takes A Stand, And Dadt is Ruled Unconstitutional
Plus The Situation is denied, Janet Jackson is The Lady In Red, and Cyndi Lauper continues to Give A Damn.
Well, the big news is that a federal judge has ruled Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell unconstitutional. In what may be the only useful thing the Log Cabin Republicans have ever done, U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips granted an injunction preventing the enforcement of the statute. This puts the Obama administration in the awkward position of appealing a law it swears it wants repealed. And the injunction will almost certain be stayed pending appeal. Honestly, this may be bad news for the November elections.
A few days ago we told you of a New Zealand show called Songs for Guy that sought to sing pop songs from a man, to a man. The first reviews for the show are in, and they’re great. Now I just need...
