Tonight, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow finally returns after its mini-hiatus as Sara Lance, Ray Palmer and Kendra Saunders got left behind in the 1950s after Chronos attacked Rip Hunter and the rest of the team on the Waverider. Last weekend, TV Overmind was fortune enough to participate in the DC’s Legends of Tomorrow press room last weekend with other news outlets at roundtables where stars and producers from the show discussed what viewers can look forward to in the second half of the season. Franz Drameh, who plays Jax Jackson a.k.a. Firestorm, was there to talk about Jax’s arc in the second half of

Just as my ComicMix cohort, the Legend of Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow Denny O’Neil, I have jumped gently back into the TV fracas again with DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Denny was quick to note in the macro that the show harkens to a very base pulp root – that of myth of the voyage. But my gaze is far more acutely focused on but a single moment from the first episode of the CW’s titular team up.
Shortly after The Doctor – um, I mean Rip Hunter – has pitched woo to each of his would-be Legends, we’re treated to the monotony of joining each member as they pack up their lives to go adventuring. With seemingly everyone on board, we assume smooth sailing… until we reach the immaculate home of Professor Martin Stein. There, amidst his country bumpkin bric-a-brac, Stein and his young ward (Jax Jackson, because all...

2.4 The Fury Of The Firestorm
Ronnie’s apparently dead and, along with a new love interest for Caitlin, we knew we were due a replacement Firestorm buddy for Stein. Enter Jax Jackson, who I’m told is a character invented solely for the TV show, and who made a pretty great impression during this week’s episode.
It’s not that Ronnie wasn’t okay as season one’s Firestorm, it’s just that he never really meshed well with the group dynamic. Jax, however, is a younger and just generally more interesting presence in Star Labs. On paper, he’s set completely apart from Barry and the rest of the team and, more importantly, he’s the polar opposite of Stein.

When Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten) make her debut in the second episode of The Flash Season 2, it was clear immediately that there was a spark between her and Barry, one which was touched upon a little bit when she gave him her number in this week’s episode and will be deeper explore in next week’s all new The Flash, titled “The Fury of Firestorm.” In these new photos, Barry and Patty seem to be growing closer as they work on a case together, as there is plenty of laughter and smiles. However, the images of Patty with her gun out and Barry in his Flash suit also makes it look like the two of them will be working to fight off a threat together later in the episode as well, even if Patty still doesn’t know that Barry is The Flash. Meanwhile, “The Fury of Firestorm” also...

Well, we all saw this coming thanks to that promo! Jax Jackson (not "Jay" as previously reported) will indeed be the new half of Firestorm, and where this leaves Ronnie - who I would guess is stuck on Earth-2 - and Jason Rusch remains to be seen. Jamie and Jessie Are Not Together
Written and directed by Wendy Jo Carlton
USA, 2011
It’s long been said that men and women can’t be ‘just friends’. In many Hollywood films (When Harry Met Sally, Friends With Benefits, Friends With Kids, ad infinitum) this axiom becomes a pursuant theme, which they always, and invariably, succumb to.
But what about the gay community? Surely, the same rules must apply. If platonic, heterosexual relationships are undone by corporeal attraction, then so to must homosexual relationships. In her romantic comedy about love between best friends, Wendy Jo Carlton spins into familiar territory with a queer twist, but instead of being a reductive, banal mimicry of her hetero-centric contemporary’s, Jamie and Jessie Are Not Together has enough heart and ingenuity to stand on its own.
Initially, Jamie and Jessie Are Not Together does feel a lot like When Harry Met Sally. Set in Chicago,...

Fortunately or unfortunately, most of us have fallen hard for a friend. Sometimes it works out but many times it fails to spark because the other party was oblivious to your attraction, the timing was off or they just weren’t that into you. Suffice it to say, when writer/director Wendy Jo Carlton set out to make a new movie, she found her inspiration at (where else?) a Chicago Dyke March when she noticed the extreme closeness of friends Jacqui Jackson and Jessica London-Shields. The two actresses were closer than close and were often assumed to be romantically coupled but, in reality, they were nothing more than good friends. Take that story, cast your inspirations as the title characters, put a musical spin on it and you have the indie film Jamie and Jessie Are Not Together.

A musical romantic comedy that defies genre conventions and expectations left and right, Jamie and Jessie are Not Together is one of the funniest, most original lesbian films of the year. With an attractive, likeable cast of characters, snappy, believable dialogue and two phenomenal leads, it’s a summery blast of fresh air.
Jessie (Jessica London-Shields) and Jamie (Jacqui Jackson), both queer, are roommates and best friends. We first meet them biking along the road to their Chicago apartment, and then witness an awkward conversation – Jamie is moving to New York for an acting gig (on Broadway, mind you) in two weeks.
At first, it seems like our carefree leads are in a relationship, as they spend plenty of time together skinny dipping on the beach and snuggling on their couch, the picture of domestic bliss. However, it quickly becomes apparent that they are not actually together – Jamie is dating...
