For the latest instalment in its animated franchise, Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match, Warner Bros. takes us back to Los Angeles in the 80s where Johnny Cage, a C list action hero with an A list ego, is about to get his big break. Or was, until his co-star Jennifer Grey doesn’t show up for filming.
Johnny and his nerdy assistant Brian go over to her mansion to convince her to return to the set. J. Michael Straczynski is back with a new installment in his imaginative Babylon 5 series. The difference this time is that it’s a 76-minute animated feature film, released this week from Warner Home Entertainment.
B5 launched into syndicated television sixteen years ago, featuring a somewhat darker, more nuanced approach to the future. It was filled before and behind the camera with people well-versed in the Sf tropes, but used that to twist things and keep them fresh.
Here, Babylon 5 The Road Home, feels far more familiar. We’re set in the time after the Shadow War as we focus on President John Sheridan (Bruce Boxleitner) and his wife Delenn (Rebecca Riedy) adjusting to running the 12-world Interstellar Alliance. Just as he leaves, he’s caught in the tried and true time warp allowing him to visit various parallel realities as we revisit more familiar characters and settings.

One of the joys of growing up in the 1960s is that you were treated to cartoons from earlier eras, long before limited animation filled the Saturday morning airwaves. Among those gems were the work of Max and Dave Fleischer, including Popeye, Gulliver’s Travels and, of course, Superman. Since then, they have fallen into public domain and were widely available, but never in the best condition.

For those unfamiliar, the fairly formulaic stories involve a problem, Lois Lane (Joan Alexander) getting into trouble, Clark Kent (Bud Collyer) changing in the phone booth (the trope introduced in the second short), and Superman to the rescue. In the 1960s, Mort Weisinger ran more than a few stories speculating on what would happen had Superman and Batman married and had offspring, although no two stories were connected. Under Murray Boltinoff, World’s Finest Comics in 1973 began a series of stories about Clark Kent, Jr, and Bruce Wayne, Jr., which had its following. More recently, Superman and Lois had a son, Jonathan, while Batman met Damian, his biological son, grown in a test tube by Ra’s al Ghul. Once they established themselves, it was inevitable the youngster would be paired up and a series of entertaining Super Sons stories ran, mostly in the capable hands of writer Peter Tomasi.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind is the third and latest installment of the Warner Bros. animated franchise following Scorpion’s Revenge and Battle of the Realms. And it wastes no time getting right into the bloody action. Literally in the first minute of the film a convoy of vehicles pulls looking like it rolled out of one of the better Road Warrior rip-offs smashes through the gates of a town. The occupants begin slicing off heads, ripping out spines, impaling and incinerating the residents in gruesome detail. King Kano and the Black Dragons have arrived, ironically telling the survivors they’re here to protect them in return for a small tax.

For a brief, glorious moment in the comics, Damian Wayne and Jon Kent were the next big thing in the DC Universe. Then Jon got aged up and sent to space, and Damian went off to Kumite Island to fight his grandma and they got split up. Oh well, that’s comics for you! In case you can’t tell, some folks are a little broken up about Super-Sons, the comic that followed young teen Superboy and Robin and was utterly delightful, ending.
But fortunately for those people, there’s a new chance to see Jon and Damian goof off: Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons, the new animated feature film coming to digital, Blu-ray and other home media formats on Oct. 18. Rick Morales directed Snow Blind, written by Jeremy Adams.

I don’t play video game so I am only peripherally familiar with Injustice, an Imaginary Story featuring the DC Universe. Similarly, I didn’t read the Injustice: Gods Among Us prequel comic book that apparently sold well enough to inspire Warner Animation to invest precious time and resources in adapting it to film. The resulting product, out now from Warner Home Entertainment, is an acquired taste.
Those familiar with the source material will be irked at how much has been trimmed out to fit hundreds of pages into a 75-minute story. Those unfamiliar with the tale will scratch their heads a lot, asking, “How’d that happen?”
Taking a page from Mark Waid and Alex Ross’s Kingdom Come, Superman turns dark with rage and grief after the Joker kills Lois Lane. The twist is that this Lois is pregnant, deepening his pain. He becomes a dictator, instilling his...

Between the live action reboot of Mortal Kombat and my growing appreciation of the animated Batman films it was pretty much a given that I would check out another of Warner’s animated offerings, Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms begins with a couple fleeing through deserted streets before being confronted by a trio of nasty looking creatures. They kill the couple but Raiden (Dave B. Mitchell; Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous) arrives in time to save their baby whom the mother names Liu Kang with her dying breath.
We’re barely a minute in and already there’s a decapitation and a pair of eyes exploding from their sockets.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge is a bone-crunchingly brutal take on the beloved game franchise and the heart-wrenching backstory of the titular warrior, Hanzo Hasashi. The newest Warner Bros. animated offering is also stacked with homages to classic martial arts movies and ’80s action flicks that the creators, writer Jeremy Adams and executive producer Rick Morales, tell me was vital to their vision of Mortal Kombat, which Morales reveals made the R-rated animation “the movie that I’ve always wanted to make.”
Watching Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge as an action fan, it’s easy to see where the team pulled from, especially when it comes to the real life inspiration for Johnny Cage, the Muscles from Brussels himself, Jean-Claude Van Damme. There’s even an instantly recognizable triple roundhouse kick which Morales confirms was an intentional nod to the iconic European martial artist. “We pulled from Van Damme stuff for sure,...

Now that Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge has been unleashed on viewers around the globe, fans everywhere have one question: Will we be getting another entry into the awesome R-rated animated franchise? The first animated Mortal Kombat movie establishes a vibrant and violent landscape that is not only true to the games that inspired it but also feels ripe for exploration. Writer Jeremy Adams says that although he doesn’t know whether the team will get another chance to revisit the brutal supernatural space he would love to, and that if they do he already has a plan for what would come next.
“Bigger,” Adams teases. “That’s all I can say about that. I absolutely do hope that happens. I don’t know anything else besides that. But yeah, my hope is that this gets a theatrical release at some point. I hope someday maybe they do like a Fathom event or something,...

When it was announced that Warner Bros. Animation was going to make an R-rated Mortal Kombat movie, fans went wild. The beloved fighting game franchise has been delighting and disgusting gamers in equal measure since it debuted in 1992. Since its release the series has been courting controversy for its extreme violence, which is exactly why it’s been such a success. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge pays homage to that legacy with a blood-splattered, gore filled, martial arts heavy take on the lore of the game with bone-crunchingly awesome results. Watching Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge feels like a Mortal Kombat lover’s dream, and for this lifelong Fatality fan it delivered on all fronts.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge looks cool as hell. The red band trailer released earlier this week seems to perfectly capture the tone of the game as it mixes together the elusive combination of fantastical martial arts storytelling, a tongue-in-cheek attitude and, of course, extreme bloody violence.
The film looks to flesh out Scorpion’s background, too, showing off the roots of his rivalry with the Lin Kuei clan and specifically, Sub-Zero. It appears to combine this tale with a loose adaptation of the first game, in which the classic Kombatants did battle against Goro and Shang-Tsung.
Despite Johnny Cage’s protestations in the trailer, the animated film will indeed be coming straight to home release, with the digital version landing on April 12th and the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray a few weeks later on April 28th. And now, we know what the special features will be, with the full...

Part of me really wishes that fans gave Dynasty a real shot.
The series never had much of a chance because everyone rode it off as "not living up to the original."
Yet, Dynasty Season 1 Episode 13 proves that the series finally found it's footing and has the potential to be as shiny and addictive as predecessor Gossip Girl.
Fallon Carrington is a pretty decent rival to elite Blair Waldorf, don't you think?
Steven finally gets an upgrade from Fallon's lackey slash "dude who snorts cocaine and sleeps around" to City Council candidate. That's a big step up!
How has his potential remained untapped for so long? As the only moral compass in that family, they should have utilized him to improve their image a long time ago.
Daddy, don't be so so old-fashioned. A couple more felonies and he could be President.

When it comes to characters that we love, you’ll probably agree with me in saying that we all possess some vague memory of how we were exposed to them. As a lifelong fan of Batman, I can at least remember that Adam West was my introduction to the Dark Knight (or Bright Knight, in this case). Honestly, I can’t properly recall if it was via the TV show from the ’60s or the Super Friends animated series, but either way, he was my first Batman.
Having confessed that, you can imagine that I was quite thrilled when West, Burt Ward and Julie Newmar reprised their roles of Batman, Robin and Catwoman, respectively, in last year’s Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. Not only did returning in animated form allow them to defy Father Time, but it also showed us what that world looks like when freed of...

This article contains mild spoilers for The Lego Batman Movie and Batman: Return Of The Caped Crusaders.
Batman & Robin has a lot to answer for. Almost 20 years after its release, Joel Schumacher's brightly-coloured art nouveau confection is widely acknowledge as the nadir of the cinematic Bat-canon, even though that canon has very recently incorporated the DC Extended Universe entries, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and the Academy Award-winning* Suicide Squad.
But two decades on, it sometimes feels like the films have wound up going too far the other way. Warner Bros rightly ran in the opposite direction with the Dark Knight trilogy, which began eight years later with Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins. However, they haven't replicated the success of those films by doubling down on...

When Batman debuted on ABC in 1966, I was not yet eight years old, a prime target for this pop-art event. I was already a diehard comic book fan and couldn’t contain my excitement at seeing the heroes and villains come off the four-color pages and onto our then-new color TV. I was very excited and had no clue just how campy it was. That came later as the reruns began on Wpix and throughout the 1970s.
The Batman phenomenon has proven incredibly influential on several generations of comic book fans, professional writers, artists, and animators, and beyond. Thankfully, whatever legal entanglements there were between Greenway Productions, 20th Century Fox, and Warner Bros got ironed out, allowing a new generation of fans to glory in what is now known as Batman ’66. The latest offering is the direct-to-dvd animated feature Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, starring the voices of Adam West,...

In “Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders” Batman and Robin have their hands full when Penguin, The Joker, Riddler and Catwoman raise hell in Gotham City. The animated DC film is directed by Rick Morales and features the original 1966 “Batman” series cast: Adam West voicing Batman, Burt Ward voicing Robin, and Julie Newmar voicing Catwoman.
The movie is now available in Digital HD, and so far critics are loving this new Batman adventure.
Scott Mendelson of Forbes called “Return of the Caped Crusader” the “best Batman movie of the year.”
“‘Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders’ is a celebration of one of the most critical interpretations of the original character, one that offers a full-throated defense of everything it was regardless of how it is viewed in hindsight…It could use some tightening, but it’s totally entertaining while celebrating the legacy of its televised predecessor. It understands that the...

The spotlight shines on far more than the core trio of iconic stars of Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders. With the likes of primetime television veterans Steven Weber and Thomas Lennon leading the way, the full-length animated feature film boasts a supporting cast of notable voices from across all entertainment mediums and some of the best-loved animated properties.
Adam West (Batman), Burt Ward (Robin) and Julie Newmar (Catwoman) own top billing, but Weber (Wings, iZombie, NCIS: New Orleans) and Lennon (The Odd Couple, Reno 911!) – as trustworthy butler Alfred Pennyworth and Chief O’Hara, respectively – headline an impressive array of actors who were excited to give voice to a role in a Batman film.
In addition to Weber and Lennon, the cast includes:
Jeff Bergman as the Joker and the revered Announcer. Bergman is well known as a voice of Bugs Bunny for more than a quarter of a century...
