Slipknot have served up another preview of The End, So Far with the metal act’s new single “Yen.”
The track continues the death theme from the album’s first single, “The Dying Song (Time to Sing)“; the album title itself, The End, So Far, perhaps hints at an overarching theme of, well, the end.
“You’re all I can think about / The taste is red and rust / Can I hold you in my mouth until I fade into this form? / Can you cover me / Will you breathe for me?...

Even a global pandemic can’t soften Slipknot who will return this fall with a new album, The End, So Far, which they’re heralding with a punishing new elegy, “The Dying Song (Time to Sing).” After a bittersweet chorus about putting your “life into your death,” the song opens with frontman Corey Taylor bellowing, “Die! Die! Die!” over pummeling guitar and drums as if it were just another Tuesday. “When no one else is listening, only when you’ve had enough,” he sings. “Time to sing this dying song alone.

Dio’s debut album, Holy Diver, will be reissued this summer to mark what would have been the 80th birthday of the late Ronnie James Dio. The four-cd set, dubbed Holy Diver: Super Deluxe Edition, contains a new remix of the album by Joe Barresi (Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold), the original album remastered, a live album recorded in 1983, and a compendium of outtakes, single versions of tracks, and B-sides. Alice in Chains cling to painful memories on their cathartic new song “Never Fade.” “Growing cold, try to numb my feeling/ Lose control/ All my friends are leaving,” the alt-metal band laments over venomous power chords. “Paid the price for all the lies I used to live/ Sacrifice for all the love I tried to give.”
“Never Fade” is the band’s third single from their upcoming sixth album, Rainier Fog, following “The One You Know” and “So Far Under.” The quartet recorded the LP with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Mastodon,...

Since next year is supposed to be our last here on Earth (if you’re into Mayan culture and all that), let’s hope that we get plenty of amazing albums so we can bid adieu in style. It should be a glorious year indeed if we finally get that new Santigold record, Tool finally hit the studio and Jay-z and Kanye both give us solo albums (and maybe more from The Throne). We're no longer holding onto much hope for Dr. Dre's Detox – which is quickly becoming the Chinese Democracy of the new millennium – since the rapper recently announced he’s "taking a break," which begs the question, “What has he been doing this whole time?” But clearly there is plenty of good music for us all to look forward to in 2012.
This year wasn’t too shabby either – we had some great new albums...
