The YouTuber movie is one that's often been considered very specific. Usually, they are comedies that star and/or are made by a YouTube content creator specifically to appease their fanbase. None of these are what you can consider future Oscar contenders, but as long as they succeed in satisfying their target audience, they'll be perfectly fine. Right?
If the history of these movies is anything to go by though, a ton of YouTuber movies aren't particularly successful in winning this niche fanbase, let alone general audiences. In a way, it almost seems like the sheer amount of terrible movies with a YouTuber's name on them has set back one of YouTube's primary appeals in the first place. This is, of course, the platform's unique ability to allow creatives to find a platform for their work, eventually building up to bigger projects.

A tearful Toby Turner categorically denied allegations by ex-girlfriend and fellow YouTube star April Fletcher (aka April Efff) that he mentally and physically abused her throughout their relationship, as she detailed in a lengthy Tumblr post on Friday. According to Fletcher, Turner raped her and also drugged her by slipping Molly into her drink in 2013.
In a one-minute video on his vlog channel titled The Truth., Turner responded, “A person I dated a few years ago has just made some extremely serious false accusations about me, and I want to be crystal clear: I have never done anything without her consent. I’ve never tried to trick her into anything. I read her Tumblr post and I was shocked and I was hurt. These allegations are absolutely false. I just wanted to address it. That’s all.”
In the wake of Fletcher’s allegations, several other women have come forward to offer comment.

After months of speculation, YouTube has publicized its paid subscription plans. The site’s new service will be titled YouTube Red, it will cost $9.99 per month, and its offerings will include original programs created by prominent members of the YouTube community.
YouTube Red will launch in the Us on October 28th, at which point users will be able to try it out for free for a month. Perhaps the biggest draw for the premium service will be the ad-free viewing experience it provides, but the $9.99 subscription will also include access to several of YouTube’s most enticing features, including a few that have been in the works for a long time. Subscribers will gain access to a shiny new YouTube Music app, as well as Google Play Music. YouTube Red users will also be able to download videos and watch them offline, thus making available a feature the video site has talked about for years.

The return of Star Wars to American cinemas is just three months away, and Coffee-Mate is spreading the hype. The coffee company has a new line of Star Wars-themed bottles, and in order to spread the word about them, it has sponsored videos from YouTube stars Matthew Santoro, iJustine, and Toby Turner.
For its YouTube campaign, Coffee-Mate teamed up with the Reach Agency, which specializes in branded projects on social media platforms. The three participating creators in Coffee Mate’s push have more than 13 million subscribers between them and together achieve millions of views each day, guaranteeing a wide impact.
Each of the three creators put their own spin on Coffee-Mate’s brand. Santoro uses the partnership as an excuse to share five facts about coffee, iJustine dons a blindfold for a taste test, and Turner does his best impressions of the Star Wars characters featured on the containers.

At YouTube Space La, Endemol has got to work on a new digital series. The media company, which runs the multi-channel network Endemol Beyond, has kicked off production on a video game competition series called Legends of Gaming.
Legends of Gaming is based on a British program Endemol produced last year. As he promised, Arnold Schwarzenegger is back. The actor, along with YouTube talent such as Machinima, Olga Kay, Lilly Singh (aka IISuperwomanII), Matthew Santoro, and Toby Turner, participated in a Terminator-themed web series dubbed Terminator Genisys: The YouTube Chronicles, which debuted on June 22, 2015.
The three-part Terminator Genisys series was created to help promote the upcoming Paramount Pictures film by the same title, which releases in theaters on July 1. In The YouTube Chronicles, a Terminator comes to Earth, takes the form of Turner, and starts trying to kill off influential YouTube stars to change the future. Endemol Beyond delivered the final presentation of the 2015 Newfronts, and as with many of the events that came before it, Endemol’s pitch hit on a number of new services and series. In particularly, the multi-channel network run by Endemol Shine North America will debut two new verticals: Looksy, which will deliver pop culture videos, and Smasher, which will focus on sports and gaming content.

Both Looksy and Smasher will spotlight creators from within the Endemol McN as well. Looksy’s slate includes Bad Girl, a prank series starring Brittany Furlan; on Smasher, PrankVsPrank co-star Jesse Wellens will lead a series called Rule’m Sports, in which he will extend challenges to star athletes. Smasher will also be the home of Legends of Gaming, which will be hosted by YouTube star Toby Turner.

This year, Machinima made its first Newfronts pitch since it rebranded itself in November 2014, but even with a new tagline, the network’s 2015 presentation touched on similar topics as its previous ones. Specifically, Machinima continues to pride itself on its ability to create the sort of content video game, comic book, and superhero fans crave, and its upcoming programming slate is evidence of that fact. Among its shows, Machinima is planning a horror series inspired by the “creepypasta” phenomenon, an animated series inspired by the indie game Happy Wheels, and several collaborations with DC Comics.
One of the highest-profile shows in Machinima’s slate is a collaboration with horror icon Clive Barker, who will create a series of shorts based off scary stories called creepypastas. Creepypastas, which are often passed along via Internet forums, have spawned a number of viral hits, including the infamous Slender Man. Machinima’s Happy Wheels...

YouTube Space La was recently overtaken by Skynet, but in a good way. The venue played host to a Terminator-themed campaign involving several popular YouTubers like Olga Kay and Lilly Singh (or IISuperwomanII to the online video masses).
The Terminator campaign shoot took place over three days. In addition to Kay and Singh, YouTube brought in Woody Tondorf of Machinima, Toby Turner, and Matthew Santoro to film promotional videos for the upcoming Terminator: Genisys film from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions. YouTubers Richard Ryan (RatedRR), Joe Penna (MysteryGuitarMan), Kevin Lieber (Vsauce2), Epic Lloyd, and Jack Douglass of Jacksfilms also made cameo appearances.
Kay told Tubefilter Arnold Schwarzenegger even showed up to contribute to the campaign. “There were at least 100 people in the lobby when Arnold arrived on set. I've never seen Youtube Space La being so silent,” Kay said in an email. “Everyone was taking in the Terminator power.

Toby Turner's fans waited patiently for the release of Tobuscus Adventures: Wizards, a mobile based based on the titular YouTube star's animated web series. Now, in the first few days since the game's release, those fans have eaten it up. Tobuscus Adventures: Wizards has already garnered more than 3,000 ratings and earned a place in the App Store's "Best New Games" section.
In Wizards, players control Tobuscus as he uses magic spells to battle zombies. The game costs $4.99, and a portion of the revenue it earns will be donated to charity.
Wizards is based off Tobuscus Adventures, the animated series that stars Turner and Gabe Hohreiter. In May 2013, Turner released an episode of the series in which the characters start an Indiegogo campaign; this storyline mirrored a real-life campaign to fund Wizards, which was ultimately greenlit after Turner and his team pulled in $642,799--more than two-and-a-half times their initial $240,000 goal--on the crowdfunding site.

During this year's Super Bowl, YouTube is looking to be more than just the place people go to watch the commercials. The top video sharing site will have its own halftime show, during which creators like Harley Morenstein and Freddie Wong will act as counterprogramming to Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz.
Morenstein, the ringleader of the Epic Meal Time channel, will host the program, which YouTube is producing alongside Collective Digital Studio. Other creators slated to appear include Freddie Wong, Toby Turner, and Rhett and Link. Toby Turner is headed to print. The boisterous YouTube star best known for his Tobuscus channel will work with HarperCollins imprint Tegan Books to turn his Tobuscus Animated Adventures web series into a series of three books. Tobuscus Animated Adventures follows the energetic, dim-witted, and impulse-driven Tobuscus character as he drags his level-headed friend Gabuscus along on a series of dangerous journeys. The series previously inspired Turner to launch an Indiegogo campaign in order to adapt it into a video game. That project raised $642,779 and the game is currently in development. The books will be arranged as fictional journals and will feature plenty of illustrations. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the three installments will be spread across an extended period of time. The first one will see release next fall, book two will follow in summer 2016, and the final third of the trilogy will arrive in the winter of 2017--almost...

For the second year in a row, What's Trending? will bring together the online video's biggest creators to give back to the community. Director: Michael J. Gallagher. Review: Adam Wing. Stop me if you've heard this one. We open in a suburban household, where a hot babysitter is having a conversation with the girl she's looking after. The young damsel is on the internet, chatting to strangers online. They talk about the dangers of chat rooms and the pitfalls of cyber-stalking. The young girl tries to scare the hot babysitter with a myth about a masked man who preys on unsuspecting users. After a few obligatory ass shots, the babysitter is butchered to death by a monster called Smiley, so called because he stitched his own eyes shut before carving his mouth into a smile. Nice. Then we cut to the opening titles. With Smiley, director Michael J. Gallagher isn't interested in bringing anything new to the table. He takes an attractive theme, both intriguing and current, and largely ignores it in favour...

A flurry of activity has significantly beefed up Maker Studios' most successful vertical. Four top YouTube gamers--Captain Sparklez, KSIOlajidebt, Ali-a, and TheBajanCanadian--have joined Maker and will be listed as members of Polaris, the network's gaming division. Polaris already counts a number of YouTube's top gamers among its partners. The unstoppable Swedish force that is PewDiePie is well-represented on the vertical's YouTube channel, as is top British gaming channel The Yogscast, Toby Turner, Dodger, and many others. The four new gamers slot in nicely at the top of the vertical's roster, and Polaris has now become the seventh-most popular network on YouTube in terms of subscribers, despite claiming a partner count that is merely a fraction of its competitors. The four new members combine to bring in more than 150 million views a month and have 13 million subscribers between them. Like any well-balanced team, they also have a variety of different specialties.

Social Media Week Los Angeles, powered by Nokia, will kick off on September 23rd. In anticipation, the team behind the weeklong event has announced the 'Social 25', and list of social media savvy creators presented by JukinVideo. While the list includes a number of notable traditional media figures, the online video community is well-represented, with eight of the 25 honorees possessing big time YouTube presences. The list includes individual YouTube personalities like Hannah Hart and Toby Turner; traditional media powerhouses who have expanded to YouTube, such as Stan Lee, the Jash crew, and Chris Hardwick; and multi-channel network pioneers like AwesomenessTV's Brian Robbins and Zefr's Zach James and Rich Raddon. In addition, a few online video notables without YouTube credits, such as prominent investor Mark Suster and House of Cards star Kevin Spacey, also made the list. So what does it mean for these personalities to make the 'Social 25'?...

Smosh’s Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign is officially over. It began on July 22, 2013 and ended 33 days, $259,247, and one sincere and relieved thank you video later in success. Smosh stars Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla will now be able to add full-fledged video game creators to their growing multi-media resumes and the 12+ million fans of their hit YouTube channel and 3,941 funders of their crowdfunding campaign will have the opportunity some time in the not so distant future to play Food Battle: The Game. Here are Hecox and Padilla showing their appreciation to all those who helped bring a long-standing Smosh tradition to a new entertainment medium. The campaign ended $9,247 ahead of its original $250,000 goal, due in part to Hecox and Padilla’s epic seven-and-a-half-hour live stream marathon that broadcast the day before funding closed and encouraged fans to contribute in exchange for a variety of antics. (For instance, Hecox and Padilla may...

Online fundraising is a fickle mistress. When Smosh kicked off an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for Food Battle: The Game, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that the top YouTube channel would easily reach its fundraising goal. After all, top YouTube creators like Toby Turner, Hannah Hart, and Freddie Wong had previously killed it on Kickstarter and Indiegogo, so why would a creative pair with more subscribers than any of those people fall short? Oh, how wrong we were. For whatever reason, Smosh's Indiegogo campaign hasn't lived up to expectations. With only a few hours left, Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla are still several thousand dollars short of their $250,000 goal, and they need to energize their fan their fans if they hope to collect the cool quarter million they desire. To raise awareness for the campaign, Smosh has launched its first ever live stream, with Ian and Anthony...

Machinima is the multi-channel YouTube network with the most gaming-focused content, but one of its biggest competitors also knows how to get its game on. Maker Studios has rebranded The Game Station as Polaris and has given the channel a much needed makeover in time for Geek Week. Polaris features content from Maker Studios most prominent gamers, including the hottest YouTube creator in the world: PewDiePie. The boisterous Swede hosts one of the channel's new programs, PewDiePie & Friends, where he meets up with other Maker Studios creators for a few hours of local multiplayer. Judging from the first episode, the show is attempting to capitalize on the rampant success of Rooster Teeth and Smosh Games. It's a good idea, but the Maker Studios all-star team will need to display more chemistry to match the charisma of those two gaming groups. Beyond PewDiePie, Polaris features content from several of YouTube's top channels.

Six months after it finished a triumphant run on Indiegogo, ShayCarl's documentary about vlogging is beginning to take shape. The popular YouTuber, Maker Studios co-founder, and loving husband and father debuted the trailer for Vlogumentary during a presentation at Vidcon. Vlogumentary used to be titled I'm Vlogging Here, but despite taking on a (marginally) less goofy name, the film itself will explore the same subjects Shay proposed during his Indiegogo campaign. Specifically, it will delve into the art of vlogging and explore every nook and cranny within. Judging from the trailer, Vlogumentary's subjects will include popular vloggers, lesser-known vloggers, happy vloggers, sad vloggers, serious vloggers, silly vloggers, and many other classifications. For many of Shay's fans, it is the first group that will be the main draw. There are many well-known YouTubers involved in the project, including the Vlogbrothers, Nice Peter, Toby Turner, Grace Helbig and Tay Zonday. If you watch the trailer,...

One of the developments YouTube revealed during its presentation at Vidcon regarded a new feature that will more prominently integrate Google+ into each creator's arsenal of tools. It's called 'Top Fans', and it lets YouTubers with a large enough subscriber base group there most diligent followers into one easy-to-contact circle. YouTube's Director of Project Management Shiva Rajaraman introduced the new toy alongside Software Engineer Rushabh Doshi. Essentially, an algorithm will determine which of a channel's subscribers are the most engaged. It's probably safe to assume this algorithm will resemble a Klout score of sorts, with the subscribers who watch, comment on, and share a channel's videos earning a certain amount of social 'influence'. Once these top fans have been determined, they can be grouped together on a Google+ group, where creators can learn about them, talk to them, and share content with them. I can see top creators using this...

I guess Chester See is sick of crooning piano ballads. The popular YouTuber has teamed up with Toby Turner, Wayne Brady, and a host of other recognizable creators for 'Whistle While I Work It', an utterly ridiculous yet oddly catchy dance song. The video features a heavily-autotuned See and Turner hitting the club, where they are joined by several familiar faces, including Timothy DeLaGhetto, Andrew Garcia, Mike Tompkins, Lana McKissack, The Fu Music, and many, many others. Wayne Brady, fresh of his debut appearance on the revived Whose Line Is It Anyway?, drops a guest verse where he reminds us how he once asked if he would have to choke a bitch. In a random twist, the video is bookended by Tony Hawk appearances, in an apparent bump for the skateboarder's Ride channel. Pauly Shore also makes an appearance in See's entourage. The bumpin' track has three alternate endings: one on Yomyomf,...

Wayside Creations’ Fallout: Nuka Break - Red Star is the first of many upcoming video game fan films to be released on the YouTube Original Channel Machinima Prime. The backstory of how the short, live-action flick, however, isn't like the others that will follow. It's origins are one that few people may know. The first fan film Wayside Creations created, Fallout: Nuka Break, was released 2 years ago and spawned a web series that fans loved, with both the short and series viewed over 6 million times and counting. Not wanting to leave the post-apocalyptic world of the 22nd and 23rd centuries behind, the creators launched a Kickstarter campaign last summer that allowed the production company to shoot a bigger and badder second season. While crowdfunding has been all the rage for YouTubers recently (with successfully backed projects ranging from Toby Turner’s video game to other scripted series like Joey Graceffa...

YouTube powerhouse Toby Turner (whose video game-oriented channel, TobyGames is consistently one of the Top 50 Most Viewed YouTube Channels each and every week) began his crowdfunding quest for $240,000 on May 21, 2013. The 28-year-old in possession of an aggregate 10.7+ million subscribers across his three channels on the world’s largest video sharing site sought to raise the nearly quarter-million dollars on Indiegogo to fund the production of the first of what he hopes will be many video games related to his Tobuscus Adventures animated series. Now, 30-some-odd days later, Turner’s crowdfunded adventure has concluded, and the results are nothing short of epic. The campaign raised a total of $642,779 from no less than 11,584 individuals. That amount - roughly 267% more than the original goal - will fund not only the production of an Ios iteration of Tobuscus Adventures: Wizards, but Android and PC versions, a Gryphon mini-game (Fyi: Gryphon is Toby’s dog...

The second season of Cartoon Network's The High Fructose Adventures Of Annoying Orange has only just begun, but the guest stars are already rolling in. In the upcoming fourth installment of the new batch of episodes, Felicia Day will return to the series, playing an anthropomorphic ginger root. Get it? Day previously appeared on Annoying Orange as Peach, a character who has also been voiced by Shira Lazar in the web series version of the show. Playing a ginger is, however, more fitting more Day; if there's one thing Annoying Orange loves, it's incredibly groan-inducing puns. Other YouTube notables, such as iJustine and Toby Turner, continue to have regular roles on the program, which made the jump to TV in 2012. YouTube's most popular firearms enthusiast has expanded to a second medium. FPSRussia has released Fps Russia: The Game, where players take the role of the Dmitri Potapoff as he fights off waves of baddies. FPSRussia creator Kyle Myers (who puts on a Russian accent to portray Potapoff) launched a Kickstarter campaign for the game back in November, raising more than $55,000 to fund the project. Five months later, the game is available free of charge from the iOS store. The game's premise centers around Potapoff "borrowing money from the wrong people to create a video game for his fans," making it one of the most meta iPhone games around. Obviously, the player must use Potapoff's arsenal of explosives and firearms to defeat enemies. For a fuller explanation of the game's flavor, check out the video Myers released alongside the game's Kickstarter: FPSRussia joins YouTube series such as Epic Meal Time and...

Toby Turner has built up an impressively large fanbase based in part of his gaming channel, and he's now launching a campaign that will let him experience the other side of the coin. Turner has launched an Indiegogo campaign for a video game version of Tobuscus Adventures, the series that depicts his journeys to various game worlds. Turner is seeking $240,000 for Tobuscus Adventures: The Game, and has included a ton of perks to sweeten the deal. He's even willing to go to space with anyone who donates at least $500,000, so I'm sold. All I need to do now is find half a million dollars lying around. As Turner states in his pitch video, he believes the project can be playable by Halloween. While he works on the game, Turner will continue to release new animated episodes of Tobuscus Adventures. “I have a couple of games I’ve wanted to make in the Tobuscus Adventures universe,...

Last night, YouTube kicked off its Comedy Week with a 'Big Live Comedy Show' starring dozens of funny people from both new and traditional media. Promos used the tagline "this better be funny" to promote the event. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the kickoff show very clearly wasn't. Here are six reasons why what should've been a laugh fest (or at least a fake laugh fest) was a weak start to Comedy Week: This particular mix of new and traditional media didn't gel. During the pre-show, hosts Jenny Slate and Kassem G invited the legendary Norm Macdonald to join them. The former SNL cast member proceeded to run through a list of online creators he had clearly never heard of. When Slate praised Macdonald by calling him "one of the best," he sarcastically quipped "well, I'm no Harley Morenstein." And yet, when Morenstein appeared later in the show (alongside the spectacularly unfunny Todd Glass,...

It's only May, but I'm ready to call Vine the breakout video platform of the year. Since debuting on Twitter in January, it has been the catalyst for innovative art projects and has served as the medium for a full-on film festival. Now, Vine videos are starting to make an impact on YouTube as well, with channels like The Best Vines offering tons of super short videos to a wide audience. The Best Vines is not affiliated with Vine; instead, it encourages creators to send along their Vines and then collects the best submissions on its channel. The result is large library of short videos (at the time of posting, Best Vines is averaging more than 20 videos a day) fit for bite-size YouTube snacking. The channel posted its first video just five days ago, but it has already had its first viral hit in the form of 'Don't Be Afraid Of Love',...

The second season will once again return to the MyMusicShow channel, which currently has more than 343,000 subscribers and over 26 million views.
