This gigantic blue whale just proved scientists don't know everything ... with some deep sea humor that left a zoologist speechless. Mark Carwardine was trying to play up for the camera how hard his job is trying to spot the giant sea mammals out in their natural environment ... when he got a big blue photobomb. Whoever said animals don't have a sense of humor hasn't seen this video. Read more...

Joseph Fiennes, Joanna Lumley and other celebrities have given their support to the Humane Society International/UK campaign against the polar bear trade. Other celebrities who have signed the open letter to Defra Minister Richard Benyon urging him to back a Us proposal to ban trade on the animal and their parts include Martin Clunes, Bear Grylls, Brian Blessed, Chris Packham and Mark Carwardine.
[L: Joseph Fiennes, R: Brian Blessed] Fiennes said: "Polar bears are having a hard enough time surviving the challenges of climate change. "Surely we humans can give them a break by ending the commercial hunting of these magnificent creatures. "A world without polar bears would be very bleak indeed, so I for one proudly stand with Humane Society International and declare I'm There For The Polar Bear!" (more)...

That he was born is just one of the many undeniable facts about the life of the late Douglas Adams - author, humorist, raconteur, speaker, and thinker (although it should be noted that, on at least one parallel Earth, Mr. Adams was born a spring-toed lemur with a predilection for grassy fields and the works of Byron - a poetic lemur whose work was not terribly springy).
Another fact which comes to mind is that, of the 7 novels he wrote in his all-too-brief lifetime, by far the most popular is The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and its four sequels - which make for a fine trilogy if you’re somewhat numerically impaired. Please don’t take this as a slight against Adams’s other novels, featuring detective Dirk Gently (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and its sequel, The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul), as they...

That's a Kakapo over there. It's an endangered species of flightless parrot. We'll get to him in a second. But I wanted to point out that this is, in fact, the first time a Kakapo has appeared at TV Squad.
This year is the 30th anniversary of Douglas Adams' classic TV, radio and book series, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. As part of the celebration, BBC2 TV sent Stephen Fry and zoologist Mark Carwardine off to visit the endangered species Adams searched for in another of his books, Last Chance to See.
Adams documented his growing passion for preserving fading species in the book. And BBC2 sent Fry and Carwardine out into the world to document how those species (like the Kakapo) were fairing.
You'll be able to discover the results when the show crosses the Atlantic in the coming weeks after its U.K. run. But, for now,...
