As a kid, director Katie Carman's storytelling and "wild imagination" used to get her into trouble. Through her love of filmmaking, however, she's harnessed those proclivities into a creative machine, with "Eat Me" being the most recent result. Inspired by the innovative zombie flicks of George Romero, "Eat Me!" intends to serve as another fresh take on the zombie-horror genre. The film is available now on the SnagFilms site (and below). Twitter pitch: A group of friends survive the zombie apocalypse, meeting hilarious complications as they embark on a half-baked scheme to escape to safety. So what's it really about? "Eat Me!" is an independent punk rock zombie film that's mostly a comedy but with moments of serious gore, set to a kick-ass original soundtrack. Jon, Sam, Kara and Miko are practicing together (their band name, "General Malacarne"), when their power goes out, leaving them locked in...

Katie Carman is an up and coming genre director based in the New York area. With her first feature, Eat Me!, she showed potential as she was able to achieve a consistency of tone within the narrative. What is noteworthy about this element in Eat Me!, was the fact that most new filmmakers fail to edit themselves and want to throw everything possible into a film creating a jarring, uneven experience. For her next film, Off Season, she is going the opposite direction mixing elements of psychological terror with the supernatural. Off Season is currently in pre-production, though the movie's filming date is fast approaching. If you would wish to contribute anything towards the film's budget, please visit:

It’s good news and bad news for members of the wannabe garage band General Malacarne. The bad news is that while they were getting stoned in their basement after band practice, the world’s population turned into zombies. The good news? They might be the only band left on the planet, which, you know, makes finding gigs so much easier now. That’s the idea behind Katie Carman’s low-budget, New York-based zombie horror-comedy “The Eaters”. It’s not the best low-budget zombie horror-comedy I’ve ever seen (I still give that title to Chuck Hartsell and Chance Shirley’s Southern style “Hide and Creep”), but it’s also far from the worst I’ve seen, and I’ve seen lots of really, really bad ones. Trailer, pics, and official synopsis below. A Brooklyn band, General Malacarne, is practicing when once again, the power goes out. Little do they...

The Eaters is a new zombedy indie film written by Elizabeth Lee and directed by Katie Carman made in Brooklyn, New York City and set in the same. With a decidedly quirky script, the low budget movie seems to derive inspiration from Shaun of the Dead and Dazed and Confused. A Brooklyn band, General Malacarne, is practicing when once again, the power goes out. Little do they know that this blackout is unlike any other, and that while they relax and smoke up in the basement, everyone above ground is being transformed into vicious, undead eating machines. Will the band make it out of Brooklyn? Will they too become flesh eating monsters? Will their stash go dry?...
The Eaters will screen on August 4th at the New Filmmakers New York series. Check it out.
