The BBC’s head of creative diversity, Joanna Abeyie, is stepping down after less than a year and a half in the role, Variety can reveal.
Abeyie is leaving the broadcaster to return to her consultancy business, Blue Moon, which specializes in diversity and inclusion, and executive recruitment. Variety understands that she may consult for the BBC in the future.
Sources indicate that Abeyie’s departure was first announced by BBC director of content Charlotte Moore on June 22. Her last day in the role is Monday (July 3). When her exit was revealed to her team by the BBC’s group director of diversity and inclusion Chinny Okolidoh, it’s believed a number of staff protested why Abeyie, a well-liked exec with a strong rapport with the group, had been allowed to leave the public broadcaster. However, Variety understands that her departure reflects the exec’s choice to return to her business,...

Congratulations to Jules O'Dwyer and her loveable border collie Matisse who won Britain's Got Talent last night (May 31). We must admit we came over a tad teary-eyed when Matisse's three-legged collie companion Skippy made his debut in their final act.
Last night's final prompted us to look back at all eight winners from the ITV talent show to see how they faired after their victories.
From Collabro to Pudsey the dog - which acts have had the most success post-bgt? Here's our ranking below:
1. Paul Potts
Paul Potts stunned the judges, audience and viewers of Bgt alike with his breathtaking rendition of 'Nessun Dorma' on the ITV talent show's first run in 2007. His audition became a YouTube sensation and was later confirmed as the fourth most viewed YouTube video in the UK.
Following his transition from Carphone Warehouse salesman to Bgt winner, Potts released his debut album One Chance...

We're coming to the end of the live semi-finals on Britain's Got Talent now, but we got a whole lot of variety in last night's show! And again, last year's winners Collabro are on hand to give us their verdict - this time, it's the turn of Thomas Redgrave.
He knows exactly what it's like to be on the show, which might help when Collabro return to perform tonight. "I don't know if some of the other boys are nervous but either it hasn't hit me yet or I'm not feeling too bad!" he joked. "I think it's going to be fun actually to go back and be on that stage again and perform in front of all the judges. It will be very nostalgic. I think it's more than nerves - it's very prideful to be going back as the winners. I'm really looking forward to it - I'm just going to enjoy it.

Collabro know exactly what it's like to be on a Britain's Got Talent live show, so every day we've been getting their verdict on the previous night's acts. And today, it's the turn of Richard Hadfield, who thought last night's show was "fantastic" (if "a mixed bag").
And Richard knows what Britain's Got Talent can do for an act. "We've had a number one album, we've travelled halfway across the world, performed to 20 million people on Japanese television," he said. "We're going to America, we just signed a massive American record deal. We performed at the Royal Variety which was amazing, to meet Kate and Wills, and we've got a second album coming out. It's just all overwhelming, and when any of us just get to have a moment's break and just think about the things we've done in a short period of time - we're so appreciative of Britain's Got Talent...

Jamie Raven and Udi are through to the 'Britain's Got Talent' live final. Magician Jamie, 31, who wowed the judges with his ''incredible'' performance, automatically secured his spot in the final stage of the ITV talent show after receiving the majority of the public vote during the third round of the semi-finals tonight (27.05.15). Despite being hailed as the ''new generation Diversity,'' twenty-six piece dance troupe IMD Legion, who are all aged between nine and 17, narrowly missed out on a spot in the final on Sunday (31.05.15) after dividing the judges opinion. Britain's Got Talent act Entity Allstars have admitted that they will always be compared to Diversity.
The dance troupe won over the judges and earned a place in Sunday's final after performing a Harry Potter-themed routine in the first Bgt semi-final on Monday (May 25).
But speaking to Digital Spy today, the group's choreographer Tashan Muir admitted that it's "really hard to impress people" with dancing.
"Because you've got stuff like X Factor and singing's probably the biggest artform other than film, it's really easy to notice a really good singer and be drawn into them," he said.
"But with dancing it's really hard to capture people, especially with street dance. With ballet and dance like that, because of the emotional side, it's really easy to get non-dancers to really appreciate what's going on, but with acrobatic and fast moves and stuff like that and music, it's really hard to capture people.

Ant & Dec believe they have picked the winner of this year's Britain's Got Talent.
The presenters chose dance act Boyband for their Golden Buzzer act, sending the group straight to the show's live semi-finals.
Speaking at the BAFTA TV Awards' winner's press conference yesterday (May 10), Dec said: "Predictions-wise, we've got a sneaky feeling that our Golden Buzzer act - Boyband - could do well.
"We'll take all of the credit if they do!"
Ant added that he liked to see how the acts grow throughout the competition.
"Some of them… like Diversity when they came onto the live shows, I didn't really remember them that much from their first audition, but they blew everybody away with their second - and I think if you do that, you've got to stand a chance of winning."
The presenters added to their growing award collection when they took home two BAFTA Awards at last night's event.

Alesha Dixon has promised that this year's Britain's Got Talent is the most fun yet.
The judge says that she is "so excited to be back" on the ITV talent show as it is a "dream job".
She explained: "It sounds a cliché to say it, and I say it a lot, but this year it feels like the most amount of fun we've had on the show.
"I don't know if that's because the more we work together, the more comfortable we are with each other, and therefore we're more relaxed and the banter is always good.
"It's a dream job, we come to work and spend most of the day laughing and get to be entertained by weird, wonderful, bad or crazy acts - I can't complain. It's been a blast and I think we are in for another fantastic show. It's not going to disappoint."

The Britain's Got Talent final is now just days away - excited? - and there are only a few people who know what that's like for the acts. Luckily, we got one of them - Richard of Richard & Adam - to blog for us about what they'll be feeling, who he's backing and which act is his nan's favourite...
"It was absolutely incredible returning to perform on the show on Saturday. It was a bit of a mad experience getting back to that situation where you're standing on that stage in front of the judges, but it was just so good to get back there and to give it 100%, and it was just such an enjoyable experience to meet up with the team again, say hello to the judges - it was brilliant. We loved every single second of it and we hope we can do it again. It was still really nervewracking obviously,...

Piers Morgan remained coy on Twitter yesterday over reports that he is angling for a return to the Britain's Got Talent panel next year.
The former judge, who has time on his hands after losing his news series on CNN earlier this year, was linked to the show by a gossip column in the Daily Mail.
In the report, it was claimed that David Walliams and Simon Cowell were no longer getting along so well behind-the-scenes and it implied that he could be dropped for Morgan in 2015.
Walliams quickly brushed aside the rumours with the following tweet:
According to the @MailOnline I am being replaced on #Bgt by @piersmorgan It's on their website so it must be true. pic.twitter.com/siNtgq75ne
— David Walliams (@davidwalliams) May 18, 2014
However, Morgan appeared to enjoy the speculation and added only "no comment" to the rumour.

Diversity have lost touch with Simon Cowell. The dance act, who rose to fame after winning 'Britain's Got Talent' in 2009, are still in touch with other acts from the talent show but admit they don't see much of the show's boss. Group member Jordan Banjo said: ''In our year there was Flawless, another dance act, and we see them from time to time, they're really cool guys. It's really cool to see everyone from our year still going and still doing really well. ''[But] we don't see Simon Cowell that much. I'm going to be honest, he doesn't just pop out...

Britain's Got Talent returns to our small screen on Saturday (April 12), and we've already been treated to a sneak peek at some of the acts we can expect to see on stage during the show's premiere.
But whatever happened to some of the show's most memorable acts from years gone by? What have they gone on to do following their appearance on the ITV talent show, we hear you ponder? Wonder no more with some of Bgt's past performers - from stand-out stars to the plain strange:
Faryl Smith
Mezzo-soprano Faryl Smith - then aged just 12 - blew the judges away and probably made Amanda Holden break down and blub with her beautiful rendition of 'Ava Maria' on the show in 2008.
Following her accomplishment as a finalist on the show, the singer signed a contract with Universal Classics and Jazz and released her debut album Faryl in March 2009. It went...

Ant & Dec have played a prank on Gordon Ramsay on the set of Us MasterChef.
In a sketch to be shown on this weekend's Saturday Night Takeaway (March 1), the duo fly to La and go undercover as a pair of handymen - Juan Junior and Juan Senior.
Disguised with prosthetics, the pair start by aggravating the chef by making lots of noise on the otherwise quiet set.
After filming, the mischief continues when Dec makes himself at home in Ramsay's dressing room, causing the pair to get locked inside.
Ramsay - famous for his foul-mouthed rants - can be seen banging on the door as Ant, dressed as Juan Senior, attempts to free them.
Upon finding out he had been duped by the presenters, Ramsay vowed to seek revenge on the pair.
"I had no idea," he said. "I swear to God, I'm going to get you back!"

Diversity star Ashley Banjo, who returns to Sky1 tonight with his new series Big Town Dance, is the first celebrity to step up, revealing his personal heroes and inspirations in the world of dance, music and beyond.
What song would you want played at your funeral?
That's hard. Something happy. 'Celebration' by Kool and the Gang. Not to celebrate the fact I'm dead - ha, ha - but the whole vibe, 'celebrate, good times', everyone singing along. Either that or the Jackson 5, 'I Want You Back'. That was the Diversity theme tune when we won Britain's Got Talent.
Who are your dance heroes?
Michael Jackson. Fred Astaire. Gene Kelly. The Nicholas Brothers. You don't know the Nicholas brothers? Oh my.

Hello Britain's Got Talent fans! It's hard to believe that the last of the semi-finals is already upon us. Will tonight's live show manage to top what we have seen so far this week? It has a hard task on its hands, as Got Talent has served up a brilliant mix of the wacky and wonderful over the course of the last five days.
There are just three spots left in next Saturday's (June 8) final, and tonight nine more acts take to the stage to try and impress the judges and most importantly the Great British public. As usual, the act with the most amount of votes will automatically secure themselves a spot in the final, and they will be joined by the winner of the judges' vote. However, in a sneaky twist, one of this week's third-placed acts will get the chance to return as a 'wildcard'.

If you missed last night's first Britain's Got Talent semi-final, you missed a man dancing with a mop, Simon Cowell and Amanda Holden competing to flash the most cleavage and a splattering of underwhelming dancers and singers.
However, fear not, because we have high hopes that semi-final number two will erase all our memories of yesterday's horror show. Young comic Jack Carroll, Voice singer Alice Fredenham and likeable musicians Gabz and Modupe are all on the bill.
And for anyone who watches for the laughs rather than the talent, keep your eyes peeled for the so-bad-they-just-might-be-great Meat Diva. We have high hopes for the Cher/Meat Loaf/Freddie Mercury/Tina Turner impersonators.

The big talking point after last week's show was the brilliant Francine Lewis. I still think that she could make the top three after seeing the reaction that she's got from the public.
But the thing that viewers haven't seen yet is the exceptional talent still to come on Britain's Got Talent. I don't think anyone you've seen so far is safe. It's going to be really hard to call a winner.
Still to come on the show there is an amazing guitar-playing singer. And I mean amazing. There's an amazing ventriloquist. An amazing magician. So while I think Francine has a great chance of making the final I really couldn't call whether she's a winner. It's too close.
It's like a breath of fresh of air to have all this variety on the show. It's an absolute joy for me on More Talent as well. Over the years we've had loads of variety,...

I'm so excited to be back with a new series of Britain's Got Talent and the Digital Spy blog. This year you will see more variety and speciality acts - the dance acts have been slightly scared off because of Diversity being so good and setting the bar so high, which has given a nice path for comedians, magicians, impersonators and ventriloquists.
In the first episode they've virtually ticked all the boxes. You'll see one of the best young singers you will see in six years of the show. You'll think: 'Aaw, look at her, this is going to be lovely' but she's got the most powerful voice. Another act takes Simon's breath away with just one chair, then there's a speciality act that we've never seen anything the like of. I've never seen anything so polished and so good and so emotional. Simon Cowell is planning "Pudsey: The Movie," a feature film about last year's "Britain's Got Talent" winner Pudsey the dog. The feature will star the trick-performing dog and his owner Ashleigh Butler.
This is hardly the first time "Britain's Got Talent" winners have hit the big screen - previous victors Diversity and George Sampson starred in box-office hit "Street Dance 3D," while James Corden is playing tenor Paul Potts in the currently in post-production film "One Chance."
Vertigo Films, who is producing "One Chance," will co-produce the Pudsey movie with Cowell's Syco company. Filming will begin in the spring in time for a Christmas release.

London -- She dreamed a dream, and it came true. But what happened next for Susan Boyle?
The middle-aged church volunteer from a small town in Scotland became an instant global celebrity in 2009 with her heart-stopping rendition of the "Les Miserables" number "I Dreamed a Dream" on a TV talent show.
A week is a long time in showbiz – and in our hyper-speed online age three and a half years is an eternity – but Boyle is still going strong. She has sold millions of records, received an honorary doctorate, sung for Pope Benedict XVI and performed in Las Vegas. A stage musical about her life has played to enthusiastic crowds across Britain and is headed for Australia, and next month she releases her fourth album, "Standing Ovation."
But the 51-year-old singer who entered the TV talent contest to make her late mother proud is remarkably unchanged. She's still a bit frumpy,...

Britain's Got Talent runners up Flawless have taken part in a bid to break the Guinness World Record for "most people standing on one leg simultaneously". The dance troupe - who lost out to Diversity in the 2009 series of the show - joined Tesco staff and customers in an attempt that took place at 4.35pm yesterday (October 18). Thousands of Tesco staff at 10 offices, depots and stores across the UK - including branches at London's ExCeL Centre, Leeds, Bangor, Dundee and Birmingham - simultaneously tried to stand on one leg unaided for two minutes in order to smash the previous record of 1,103 people, which was set in March by employees of Atea (Denmark) in Copenhagen. The attempt was also designed to help raise funds for Stand Up to Cancer, the new national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK, for which Tesco is a lead sponsor. Independent (more)...

Amanda Holden has claimed that she doesn't want to see any more street dance acts on Britain's Got Talent. The reality TV judge and West End star said that previous Got Talent champions such as Diversity and George Sampson and finalist Tobias Mead had set the bar too high for new street dance acts. "I think I have seen enough of street dancing," said Holden. "Diversity and Flawless had such a wow factor, which they still have now, and they make everything they do really inventive and exciting. "They set the bar really high and a lot of the dance troupes we have on since then just don't live up to the expectations we now have." She continued: "These street dance crews come on and say they're going to be amazing and (more)...

Antics and Sweet Surprise became the latest acts voted through to the Got to Dance final last night (February 12). Self-taught street dance crew Antics wowed judges Kimberly Wyatt, Adam Garcia and Diversity star Ashley Banjo with their semi-final performance. Banjo, who won Britain's Got Talent with his street dance troupe, even gave the group a standing ovation. "Guys, I stood up because you guys are a class act. Even with all the humour and all the jokes, you still bring that hard dance," said Banjo. "You kind of encapsulate it all and that is really, really hard to do. It's because you are so inventive, nothing is generic, no generic flips. You've carved a really strong identity with two performances. It's so hard to stand out in the street world, we've seen hundreds of crews and I know (more)...

Why put up one poster when you can put up 11 right?! Vertigo Films have sent us a brand new quad poster and 10 other character posters for their new movie, Street Dance 2. The first movie turned out to be one of the most successful independent British movies of all time bringing in £6.6m at the UK Box office. This new offering brings more awesome dance moves but time will tell if the sequel can be as successful as it’s predecessor. Streetdance 3D was released at the height of all things dance as Britain’s Got Talent was sweeping the nation with new and exciting moves and the likes of Flawless and eventual winners of that season being Susan Boyle in the process, Diversity. That was a fair while ago now and I’m, not sure the movies ill have the longevity that it’s makers hope it does but I...

Simon Cowell has admitted that he is "disappointed" with last year's Britain's Got Talent winner Jai McDowall. The Scottish singer was a surprise victor over Ronan Parke in the final of 2011's show. His debut album Believe was released last month, but only reached a peak of 54 on the chart. Speaking following the launch of Britain's Got Talent series six on Friday (January 20), Cowell confessed that he did not see the former support worker as a "genuine star". "I was disappointed with Jai. He wasn't what I was looking for," The Sun quotes him as saying. "You want a Diversity or Susan Boyle, someone who is a genuine star. He is talented but the (more)...

Simon Cowell has blamed bad contestants for ratings dips in his reality shows, claiming that record-breaking viewing numbers will return in "a heartbeat" if they can find the right talent. Cowell will be back as a full-time judge for the 2012 series of Britain's Got Talent. Speaking to Digital Spy at the ITV1 show's launch last week, the Syco boss insisted that the British public hadn't fallen out of love with his talent series. "You know what, I think if you get great contestants everyone comes back," he told Digital Spy. "I think it's all about talent.
