Action fans could hardly wish for anything more than what’s served up in “The Night Comes for Us,” a Jakarta-set Triad crime epic boasting some of the most inventive, gory, and dazzlingly choreographed screen violence in recent memory. Confidently executed by Indonesian writer-director Timo Tjahjanto, whose credits as one half of the Mo Brothers team include “Killers” and “Headshot,” this cartoonish cavalcade of carnage potently reunites “The Raid” stars Joe Taslim and Iko Uwais as former friends on a corpse-strewn collision course. Though confusing at times and a little too much of a good thing at two hours, “Night” should satisfy the target audience via Netflix, where it launches Oct. 19.
An extremely energetic workout on the familiar tale of a criminal who turns his back on the mob following a crisis of conscience, “Night” sets things up with text information about “The Six Seas,” an elite squad of Triad enforcers.

Gareth Evans, the director of The Raid films, made a badass samurai short film that you need to watch now! Evans is easily one of the best action film directors working today, and while we wait to see what his next film will be, we are treated to this short which centers on three dueling warriors. Evans called on the cast of his previous films to star in the short, including Yayah Ruhian (The Raid, The Raid 2), Cecep Arif Rahman (The Raid 2), and Hannah Al Rashid (V/H/S 2 “Safe Haven”). It must've been fun for this team to get together again to create something so awesome. Here's the synopsis:
In a time of civil war, a young warrior is given the task of delivering a treaty between two rival lords. During her journey through the woods however, she finds herself hunted by two assassins intent on intercepting...

If the wait for another Gareth Evans movie is starting to gnaw at you the way so many fists and knives cut into an Indonesian gangster, any small piece from the director should make that interim somewhat easier — or all the more difficult. Good news: the writer-director and his frequent acting-choreography collaborators Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman (recently wasted in Star Wars: The Force Awakens) have developed a black-and-white, samurai-centered short aiming “to create choreography that maintains the style and rhythm set out in their prior work (The Raid 1&2) while staying within the parameters of a PG-13/12A audience friendly certification.” [Criterion Cast]
At five minutes, it’s brief, and with a non-existent conflict — the description makes note of of “a young warrior is given the task of delivering a treaty between two rival lords,” here attacked by “two assassins intent on intercepting her message of peace in a bid to maintain the fear,...

Director/Writer Gareth Evans’ The Raid 2 arrives in U.S. theaters today (March 28th) and Sony Pictures Classics’ will release the film in St. Louis on Friday, April 11.
After having an early look at Evans’ film, my fellow Movie Geeks are raving about it.
Tom Stockman, calls the R-rated movie, “a hyper-violent, adrenaline-fueled epic!” Jim Batts says, “Raid 2 is a non-stop thrill ride that will have your heart pumping almost from the first fade-in to the final fade-out! It’s an action film lover’s fever dream!” Look for Wamg’s review in the coming weeks.
Here’s what goes down in The Raid 2 -
He thought it was over. After fighting his way out of a building filled with gangsters and madmen – a fight that left the bodies of police and gangsters alike piled in the halls – rookie Jakarta cop Rama thought it was done and he could resume a normal life.

This weekend, Gareth Evans returns to cinemas with his bone-crunching, face-punching, unrelenting action sequel, "The Raid 2." The filmmaker's followup his breakout "The Raid" puts everything on a bigger and badder canvas this time around, with no shortage of sequences prepped to fully drop your jaw. But helping it all land with the intended impact is the score from composer Joseph Trapanese ("The Raid," "Oblivion") along with Aria Prayogi and Fajar Yuskemal, and today we've got an exclusive taste of what you'll be hearing very soon. "Motor Chase," from the forthcoming soundtrack, is a propulsive piece and a nice preview of heart-rate jacking work in the film. Tension and momentum move quickly through this cut and it's easy to see why Evans entrusted Trapanese once again to give his action flick an appropriate sonic backdrop. "The Raid 2" opens in theaters on March 28th. The soundtrack hits digital outlets tomorrow, March 25th,...

The Raid 2 is a film fans have been clamoring for since the original in 2011 and it’s easy to see that this film will satisfy those ardent supporters. While the film does contain many exciting elements and some of the most daring fights you’ll ever seen, the film left me pretty detached by the nature of its thin and ever shifting plot.
The movie picks up where the last one left off with Officer Rama meeting with the anti-corruption task force. He is pressured into joining because he is worried for the safety of his wife and son. It’s his safety that he should be really concerned about as he is sent to prison to befriend a mob boss’ son named Uco and has to quite literally fight for his life while in the slammer. After saving Uco from a particularly brutal battle,...

We've got the full international trailer for The Raid 2: Berandal to show you today! Holy shit this thing looks like it's going to be even more badass than the first movie! Director Gareth Evans sure knows how to make an insane action film! There's just no way he would be able to pull off this kind of stunt work in the U.S. so it will be interesting to see what he does if he ever starts making American action movies. In the meantime, enjoy the awesomeness of the new trailer. It starts out a little slowly, setting the story up, but then goes right into the action of the film.
The Raid 2 picks up right where the first film left off and follows Rama (Iko Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover...

The Raid: Redemption was such a pleasantly surprising film, featuring some of the most intense fight sequences in recent memory, with a surprsingly engaging story. It was a simple film, but the sequel looks set to take everything (including the action) up to an entirely new level. A brand new trailer for the film has released and has enough action to make any fan of the genre jittery with excitement. Come inside to check it out!
The Raid 2: Berandal is set to debut at this year's Sundance, with a recently announced release date for March 28th here in the states. I for one, can't wait to check it out and while it may not be a large scale blockbuster, it still has a place on my hotly anticipated list. One look at this trailer and you can see why:

Action movie aficionados got a real treat in Gareth Evans' amazing film The Raid: Redemption, regarded as one of the best martial arts film in recent times. As such, fans have been eager for the sequel, Berandal. The film will debut at this year's Sundace Festival, but others won't have to wait long to see it as Sony Pictures has set a March 2014 release date for the film.
From the press release:
Sony Pictures Classics and Stage 6 Films announced today that they will release The Raid 2 in the United States on March 28. The film will have its World Premiere at the upcoming 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

When Gareth Evans’ brutal action thriller The Raid: Redemption became a word-of-mouth phenomenon back in 2011, everyone knew that a sequel was all but inevitable. As work on the follow-up has progressed from the idea stage to filming to post-production, we’ve seen a cool banner, a bloody teaser and not much else. Now, however, the sequel, formerly called The Raid 2: Berandal but apparently now just The Raid 2, has an unexpectedly soon stateside release date.
The sequel will make its debut at the Sundance Film Festival next month then expand to theaters in the United States on March 28th. That’s a remarkably quick turn-around for the film, as well as a measure of Sony Picture Classics’ faith in the project.

Though it may not be as highly-anticipated as some of 2014′s other big releases, like Dawn of the Planet of the Apes or Interstellar, there are still many people who are incredibly excited for Gareth Evans’ The Raid 2, which was formerly titled The Raid 2: Berandal. Thankfully, Sony has now dropped the subtitle and after having its world premiere at Sundance in January, the film will touch down in theatres on March 28th, 2014.

Few films at this year's SXSW Film Festival have knocked us back in our seat like Gareth Evans' assaultive "The Raid: Redemption." Opening this week, it's a slickly realized, breathlessly paced actioner about an unlucky Swat team that invades an apartment building that is more or less exclusively populated with very bad dudes. (A kind of warlord/drug kingpin resides in one of the top floors.) Appealing to the typical SXSW audience's love of extreme violence and foreign weirdness, the movie went over like gangbusters. We got to sit down and talk with the film's director, the very British Gareth Evans, about where the movie came from, what we can expect from the sequel, and being saddled with that goofy subtitle. And as an added bonus we also get to hear from the film's composers – Mike Shinoda (from Linkin Park) and Joseph Trapanese (the man chiefly responsible for wrangling...
