Ask and you shall receive. A couple weeks ago I had some flash of memory about Crackpot, the new Elaine May feature––her first since Ishtar, released during Ronald Reagan’s Presidency––announced in November 2019 with Dakota Johnson attached. A historic number of things transpired in the immediate months hence, four years came to feel like 25, and any and all notice of it turned to dust. In other words: I just wondered if there was some chance.
Not even ten hours later Ben Mekler implored anyone interviewing Johnson on her Madame Web tour to yield an update. Doing the necessary footwork, Brazilian journalist Thiago Gelli did just that. And as she stated:
“We are trying to get that done. It’s so hard to get any movies made ever, at all, but I’m producing it and Elaine will direct it and I’ll star in it, and we’re working on casting.

Yesterday, /Film attended a press event wherein the co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, were expected to announce a full lineup of films and TV shows based on DC Comics. What was known going in was that Gunn and Safran have openly intended to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. That means audiences will be seeing the final few films in the decade-old Snyderverse in 2023, and prepare for a proper reboot. Also, the Arrowverse -- a collection of DC Comics-based TV shows centered on "Arrow" -- will also be swept off the slate. Gunn and Safran, it seems, want no confusion. Cleanliness and clarity appear to be key.
As reported on by multiple Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ben Mekler on his Twitter thread, Gunn took to his podium on January 30, 2023 to announce the future plans for the DC Universe, or Dcu ... and made the most exciting announcement possible.

Skadoosh. DreamWorks Animation and Netflix have released the first trailer for “Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight,” an upcoming series adapted from the popular series of films starring Jack Black as the voice of the eponymous martial arts master bear.
The trailer showcases Black’s Po as he begins another journey across China, this time teaming up with the Wandering Blade (voiced by Rita Ora) to take on a pair of mischievous weasels named Klaus and Veruca who want to destroy the world by collecting a quartet of ancient artifacts with magical powers. James Hong also reprises his voice role as Mr. Ping, a noodle-cooking goose who is Po’s adoptive father, after appearing in all three “Kung Fu Panda” movies — this time around, Ping looks to be getting in on the action.
“I could save China!” Black’s Po exclaims. “That would be the perfect way for me to reclaim my title.

Jack Black has returned to the “Kung Fu Panda” franchise.
Black will return to voice Po in “Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight,” a new animated original series coming soon to Netflix from DreamWorks Animation. Previously, he voiced the titular Kung Fu Panda in three DreamWorks Animation features, some short films that appeared on the home video releases of the films, and a Christmas special (2010’s “Kung Fu Panda Holiday”).
While, barring the holiday special, Black has been noticeably absent from the small-screen iterations of the character (“Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness” ran from 2011 to 2016 and “Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness” ran from 2018 to 2019) as well as his appearances in theme park attractions like the 4D film at Universal Studios Hollywood, making this something of a homecoming.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is one of the most hotly anticipated installments in the McU’s Phase 4. Apart from being the second solo outing for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme, it’s being touted as the franchise’s first horror movie, while the title makes clear that it’ll be diving into the many worlds of the Marvel multiverse for the first time.
Many characters, both new to the McU and old favorties, will likely show up in the sequel, too, but here’s one that we definitely shouldn’t expect to appear in the movie. Not that we ever thought they would, mind you.
First of all, let’s hop back to New Year’s Eve, when filmmaker Ben Mekler joked on Twitter that obscure comics monster Googam would turn up in Doctor Strange 2. Director Scott Derrickson then shared the tweet, sarcastically adding “spoiler alert.”

The Rise of Skywalker is currently playing in theaters as the final film in the Sequel Trilogy, bringing the saga to a conclusive end after more than 40 years of storytelling. Yet, the fact that it’s as controversial as its predecessor is all the proof you need to realize that Star Wars is perpetually doomed to be divisive.
The Last Jedi surprised viewers by exploring new themes that went against what Abrams had planted in The Force Awakens. These were mysteries that people wanted to be solved by the end of the Sequel Trilogy, but Rian Johnson didn’t care much about catering to fan requests, and ultimately decided it was better to serve the characters and the narrative as a whole. You won’t see “Aquaman” reviews for some time, but the social-media levy has broken and the first wave of reactions has crashed online. Perhaps surprisingly, they’re almost all highly positive — James Wan’s entry in the Dceu has been called “an absolute blast,” “breathtakingly beautiful,” and “an undersea Star Wars” by those who’ve seen the superhero movie starring Jason Momoa.

When Taylor Swift released “Blank Space” last year, it showed a surprising amount of self-awareness as to her public image. So of course Nerdist took the themes of public expectation and channeled it into a “Game of Thrones” parody. Last year, during the annual Presidential pardon of a single turkey, President Obama cracked a joke that, for turkeys competing to stay off the Thanksgiving table, "It was, quite literally, the Hunger Games." The folks at Nerdist took the remark a step further and created this parody short called “Gobble Games.” If you rolled your eyes at Obama’s lame dad joke (you’ll hear plenty more just like it during Thanksgiving), you’ll likely roll your eyes at yet another Hunger Games parody. But don’t worry, this also spoofs scenes from some classic war movies.
