One of the reasons I try to see the Toronto midnight movies at the actual midnight screenings is because those audiences are positively bloodthirsty. They are there because they want red meat. They want to scream and groan and cheer, but not every night is programmed that way. Colin Geddes, the madman behind Midnight Madness, designs that schedule so there are some ups and downs and a mix of different energies. One of the movies that played most aggressively with the audience, satisfying exactly what they wanted, was "The Mind's Eye," the newest film from the same team who brought "Almost Human" to the festival a few years ago. Joe Begos and Josh Ethier and Zak Zeman are the ultimate expression of those kids who remade "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" or that dude who remade "Rambo" in one room, pastiche artists who make greatest hits versions of the films they love.

A long time in the making, Reach Me, from filmmaker/actor John Herzfeld brings ‘positive thinking’ and ‘self-help’ to the big screen. It stars a bevy of Herzfeld’s actor friends and friends of friends, including Sylvester Stallone, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Connolly.
The title is one of a dozen or so newcomers opening in limited release this weekend. Music Box’s Happy Valley and Kino Lorber’s Monk With A Camera are among Friday’s debuting documentaries.
Happy Valley, named after the area where Pennsylvania State University is located, dives into the child sexual-abuse scandal that rocked Penn State, while Monk looks at an unlikely ascetic who gave up life in the fast lane.
Kino Lorber also is launching Iranian Western Vampire pic A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, which it is releasing with Vice Films. The title, which was born out of a previous short film, debuted at Sundance in January.

Mpi's Dark Sky Films has announced that Nick Damici, star of cult horror faves Stake Land and We Are What We Are, will lead the cast of Late Phases, the first English-language production from rising horror director Adrian Garcia Bogliano (Here Comes The Devil, Penumbra, Cold Sweat). Dark Sky is co-producing Late Phases with Zak Zeman's Site B Productions (S-vhs), and will also be joining forces again with Larry Fessenden's Glass Eye Pix (as they did previously on House of the Devil, Stake Land, The Innkeepers and more). The story focuses on a man who moves into a town where the residents are being killed by predators believed to be dogs... but after barely surviving one such attack, he discovers that the assailants are something even more dangerous. "We're excited to be working with Mpi Dark Sky again, with a great script and Damici in the lead,” said Fessenden.

Late Phases, being produced by Dark Sky Films (who also handled Here Comes The Devil), and Larry Fessenden's Glass Eye Pix and Zak Zeman (V/H/S) is something of a werewolf picture. The film "will tell the story of Ambrose McKinley, who moves into a community where the residents have been dying in increasing numbers - oddly, all have supposedly been the victims of dog attacks. But after barely surviving his own attack on his first night there, Ambrose discovers that the assailants are much more than canines."

S-vhs will continue the fun from the first film, VHS. Premiering at Sundance '13, this sequel again brings several horrifying tales to the big screen. S-vhs will show at Sundance January 19th and the first trailer has been launched for the show. The short teaser mishmashes several short stories together. But, horror fans will find something here to entice them to the show, with a wide release for S-vhs sure to be announced soon. Premiere Date: January 19th (Theatrical). Writers: Simon Barrett, John Davies, Jason Eisener, Gareth Evans, Jamie Nash and Timo Tjahjanto. Cast: Adam Wingard, Lawrence Michael Levine, Kelsy Abbott, Hannah Hughes, L.C. Brad Miska, who runs bloody-disgusting.com, sees his fair share of horror successes and failures. It’s pretty safe to say that he knows what works and what doesn’t within the genre. So when he came up with the idea to combine the over-used but still viable found footage concept with an anthology film – which is enjoying a mini-renaissance of its own in horror, with films like The Theatre Bizarre and The ABCs of Death – and offer it up to a group of young, promising genre filmmakers that he’s been championing on his site, you can bet that people took notice of it. And when the resulting film, V/H/S, played at last year’s Sundance Festival, it floored everyone and was promptly acquired by Magnolia Pictures’ genre arm, Magnet Releasing, for a small theatrical run followed by a heavily-promoted VOD and home video release. The question that needs answering,...

Well now. This didn't take long. Fans of this year's horror anthology V/H/S can rejoice, for there's a sequel already taking shape and attracting some considerable talent.
According to THR, The Raid director Gareth Evans and one half of the Blair Witch Project duo, Eduardo Sanchez, have signed up for V/H/S/2. They will each write and direct a segment for the anthology sequel, which will also see slivers from Hobo With a Shotgun director Jason Eisener, Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre) and Sanchez’s producing partner Gregg Hale.
Of course, Adam Wingard and Simon Barrrett will be back as well, the later making his directorial debut in this sequel.
Per THR: The first movie followed a group of students hired to break into a desolate house to find a lost VHS tape, paving the way for the movie to go into a series of found-footage stories directed by up-and-coming genre filmmakers.

I became a fan of Steven C. Miller several years ago after watching his $30,000 zombie flick Automaton Transfusion and I've watched him and his projects ever since. Most recently is the cool Syfy/After Dark Originals film Scream of the Banshee which was freaking amazing for this horror fan and I've even requested a sequel to said director earlier today!
Anyway, what do you get when you team up Miller with Brad Miska from Bloody-Disgusting and company? You get the next horror offering entitled Under The Bed. From what I've been told is I'm going to love this so I know all of you horror fanatics will too! Read on below and dig on the cool image up top Siska sent over.

With the acclaimed Automaton Transfusion filmmaker Steven C. Miller burst onto the horror scene and made lots of folks take notice. His last effort, the After Dark Original Scream of the Banshee, showed how he's grown as a filmmaker. Word has just come down about his latest project, and it sounds as if the best is yet to come.
