Prolific author Anthony Horowitz has scripted mystery drama Nine Bodies In A Mexican Morgue, here are the details.
Anthony Horowitz is perhaps best known for creating the Alex Rider franchise, which so far comprises fourteen novels, seven short stories, a critically maligned 2006 film and a popular television drama on Amazon Prime, the third and final series of which aired last month. He has also written many standalone novels and the terrific Horowitz Horror books of horror stories for older children.
However, he is just as prolific writing for the screen, creating the brilliant time travel drama Crime Traveller, which starred Michael French and Red Dwarf star Chloe Annett, ITV drama Foyle’s War and the television adaptation of his novel Magpie Murders.
His latest series is Nine Bodies In A Mexican Morgue, which has been acquired by the BBC. The synopsis reads as follows:

The Swarm TV series was produced overseas and was the most expensive German TV production (produced in English) of all time. Unfortunately, expense doesn't always translate into big ratings. The CW is now focusing on airing acquired and low-cost programming and has pulled shows that have drawn low ratings. Even if a second season is made, there's no guarantee that the network will pick it up. Will The Swarm be cancelled or renewed? Stay tuned.

The deal sees the Beta Film and Zdf Studios thriller headed to American audiences after debuting at the Berlin Film Festival and recently being acquired by Sky for the U.K. and Spain’s Movistar+ channel. Young talent is bursting from the seams of this latest London revival of A Streetcar Named Desire. The result is a clear-eyed, vital, visceral production — sexy at times, but with a sort of primal danger running through it. What’s most striking is its interpretation of the central confrontation, between Blanche and Stanley; gone is any semblance of a battle of wits, to be replaced by a brutal one-sided assault upon a woman whose fragile mental health has never been more evident.
Fresh from her award-winning success with Cabaret, Rebecca Frecknall returns to the Almeida, where she is associate director and where, in 2018, she directed another Tennessee Williams play, Summer and Smoke. That production featured Patsy Ferran as Alma, another of the playwright’s mentally brittle heroines.

Paul Mescal enters the north London cafe having trudged a short distance through the snow from his gym. Heads turn, but Mescal is oblivious. He shakes himself out of a hooded coat then nonchalantly removes a sweater to reveal a ribbed torso sheathed in a white T-shirt. More stares. The star of Aftersun, Scottish director Charlotte Wells’s tender visual poem about a father and daughter, takes a seat and rubs his tummy. In that moment it’s all too easy to compare him to Marlon Brando, with the tight-ish whitey shirt and all that.
As it happens, the Irish-born actor is playing one of Brando’s signature roles: the brutish but passionate Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams’ landmark play A Streetcar Named Desire, at the Almeida Theatre, a five-minute walk away from where we’re breakfasting. The revival has been on Mescal’s slate for three years, delayed by Covid and scheduling issues.

An adaptation of author Frank Schätzing’s apocalyptic sci-fi novel The Swarm (you can pick up a copy at This Link) has been a long time coming. In 2006, Uma Thurman and producers Michael Souvignier, Ica Souvignier, and Till Grönemeyer acquired the film rights, with The Silence of the Lambs screenwriter Ted Tally handling the adaptation and Dino De Laurentiis on board to help finance the film. But it didn’t make it into production. In 2018, it was announced that Game of Thrones executive producer Frank Doelger was teaming with Beta Film and Zdf Enterprises to bring The Swarm to the screen as an eight-part TV series… and four years later, that series is finally ready to be seen! A television airdate hasn’t been set yet, but Variety reports that The Swarm will premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in February. Hopefully details on the TV and/or streaming release...

"What are you doing here, Gloria?" "Waiting for something better to come along..." Gravitas has revealed the official US trailer for a film from the UK titled The Score, which is playing in theaters now and out on VOD next week. This premiered at the 2021 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival last year, where it initially grabbed my attention. Two small time crooks, Mike & Troy, are on a mission – the "score" – that they both expect will transform their lives. At a roadside café, as they wait for a rendezvous hand-over, Troy falls in love with the waitress, Gloria, and begins to question his life choices... with a threat of real danger on the way. Last spring, with film screens dimmed and a disproportionate number of folks left with extra time to fill, the TV world was ready to be an escape vehicle. Plenty of people stuck to the recent classics or embarked on catch-up projects, but for people trying to tackle the slew of new releases, there was plenty of room to fully embrace a different kind of darkness than the one happening outside their doors.
While “Flack” may not have gruesome killings or spawn Change.org petitions, the razor-like sensibilities of the celebrity-centered drama might be just the turn-into-the-skid entertainment to light a spark underneath Amazon Prime Video’s 2021 programming slate. Originally a 2019 premiere on erstwhile “Schitt’s Creek” home network Pop, the show centers on Robyn (Anna Paquin), a main employee at a crisis PR firm tasked with cleaning up the messes of star athletes, actresses, and public figures, who all have something to sponge from the headlines.

Anna Paquin’s dark comedy drama Flack may well find another home in the U.S. after it was abruptly pulled by Pop TV.
Yesterday, it emerged that the ViacomCBS-backed network was pulling three of its five original series, including Flack, Florida Girls and Best Intentions. Flack was set to launch its second season on Pop on March 13.
However, Jimmy Mulville, who runs Flack producer Hat Trick Productions, told Deadline that he was “confident” of finding a new Stateside home for the series, which is co-produced by Paquin and Stephen Moyer’s Casm Films. A co-production with British broadcaster UKTV, it will still air on UKTV’s W network in March.
“It’s sad to end the show on Pop, the first season did well for them and UKTV,” said Mulville. “I’m confident that we’ll be able to find another home for the show. There’s no shortage of platforms.
