Darius Campbell Danesh, the “Pop Idol” runner up and West End Star has died, the BBC reports. He was 41.
The singer, who was Scottish, was reportedly found dead in an apartment in Rochester, Minnesota on Thursday, Aug. 11. A spokesperson for the Rochester police department told Variety his death is currently the subject of “an open investigation.”
The spokesperson would not comment on whether there were any suspicious circumstances.
Danesh was catapulted into the public eye in 2001 with his rendition of Britney Spears chart-topper “Hit Me Baby One More Time” on one of the U.K.’s early naughties singing competition shows “Pop Stars.” The following year he also appeared on the first season of British “Americon Idol” prototype “Pop Idol,” finishing third behind Will Young and Gareth Gates.

Netflix was in fashion this week as it wined and dined the cream of the U.K.’s rising talent, including BAFTA’s Breakthrough Brits. The streaming giant teamed with Vogue for a dinner at Soho nightspot Kettners, hosted by its London-based VP of originals, Anne Mensah, and Edward Ennuinful, editor-in-chief of the British edition of the fashion bible.
Netflix has partnered with BAFTA on its Breakthrough Brits talent scheme, and is pushing deeper into local originals as it looks to the international business as a key growth-driver. Winning over the U.K.’s best writers, actors, directors, and producers is part of the plan, not least as it tees up productions that will shoot at Shepperton Studios, its massive new production hub near London.
“You guys are the people who literally keep our lights on – creatively and figuratively,” Mensah told the assembled talent as they sat down to dinner after a drinks reception.

Black Sails, Season 1: Episode 2 – “II.”
Written by Jonathan E. Steinberg & Robert Levine
Directed by Sam Miller
Airs Saturday nights at 9 on Starz
Following last week’s premiere of Black Sails, it was clear that the toughest obstacle the series was going to face in its first season was making such a large group of characters interesting enough that we have stakes in the landlocked portions of episodes. “II.” largely begins to address some of those concerns, and while there is still a lot of work to be done with central figures like John Silver and Charles Vane, the rest of the group members are starting to become much more recognizable as characters and not just people who are on the screen.
“II.” begins by focusing on what is currently the love story in Black Sails – the relationship between Hannah New’s Eleanor Guthrie and Jessica Parker Kennedy’s Max.

Starz is setting sail with a new drama when "Black Sails" launches Saturday (Jan. 25).
The swashbuckling adventure combines real-life pirates from the 18th century, like Charles Vane (Zach McGowan), Calico John Rackham (Toby Schmitz) and Anne Bonny (Clara Paget) and characters from Robert Louis Stevenson's classic "Treasure Island," like Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and John Silver (Luke Arnold), with new fictional characters like Nassau proprietor Eleanor Guthrie (Hannah New) and her right-hand man and woman, Mr. Scott (Hakeem Kae-Kazim) and Max (Jessica Parker Kennedy).
At first glance, the high seas adventure might appear to be more along the lines of former Starz program "Spartacus," which often seemed like a pornographic movie with fighting and a large budget. Like its predecessor, "Black Sails" does not shy away from violence and sex.
But four episodes in, "Black Sails" is actually spinning a cleverly-crafted tale of intrigue, secrets and deceit surrounding a...

Black Sails may be a prequel of sorts to the swashbuckling classic film Treasure Island, but there couldn’t be a larger dissonance in tone. Take that romanticized pirate mythology you grew up on as child and chuck it out of your memory. You won’t be seeing hooks for hands, mimicking parrots, wooden legs and whatever else fantasy pirate lore has accustomed your senses too. This isn’t your standard and traditional portrayal of pirates. Instead, Black Sails offers something far more violent, bloody, and savage that’s more in line with well, real pirates.
Set during the golden era of pirating, the series’ premiere lays the groundwork for the premise by introducing us to a slew of characters, grounded in both history and fiction. The golden age is currently under pressure as the Royal Navy begins cracking down on pirate export operations, and at the worst possible time,...

Starz is bringing a new drama to life when "Black Sails" premieres next weekend. But if you don't want to wait that long, the channel has released the first episode early. The video above is the premiere episode in its entirety.
The swashbuckling show chronicles the adventures of pirates in the early 1700s, or what is referred to as the "golden age" of piracy. A prequel, of sorts, to the events of literary classic "Treasure Island," the show has real-life pirates like Charles Vane (Zach McGowan), John Rackham (Toby Schmitz) and Anne Bonny (Clara Paget) joining fictional characters like Eleanor Guthrie (Hannah New) and Long John Silver (Luke Arnold) in the Caribbean in a race for an enormous treasure, and it sounds as though the actors loved making first season as much as we've enjoyed watching it so far.

Fast & Furious 6 cars, Star Trek into Darkness spaceship pass $200 million milestone at North America box office According to weekend box-office studio estimates released Sunday morning (June 9), two blockbusters passed the $200 million milestone in North America this past weekend: Justin Lin’s actioner Fast & Furious 6, starring fast and furious cars, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, and Vin Diesel, and J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek into Darkness, starring the star-trekking spaceship Enterprise, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Benedict Cumberbatch. However, box-office actuals released on Monday revealed that Star Trek into Darkness studio Paramount had been a bit too optimistic. (Photo: one of the Fast & Furious 6 cars, with Vin Diesel at the wheel.) At no. 2 this past weekend, Fast & Furious 6 added $19.62 million (down 44%), cuming at $202.81 million according to figures found at Box Office Mojo. Including Monday figures, the worldwide cume for the $160 million-budgeted sixth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise is an estimated $586.66 million.

Fast & Furious 6 weekend box office: Biggest Fast and Furious domestic opening ever? (Photo: Dwayne Johnson in Fast & Furious 6) Fast & Furious 6 will easily top Memorial Day weekend at the North American box office. According to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo, the Justin Lin-directed action thriller featuring Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, and Jordana Brewster earned $38.2 million at 3,658 locations on Friday — including $6.5 million from 2,409 late Thursday and midnight screenings. Fast & Furious 6 vs. Fast Five Reportedly budgeted at $160 million, Universal’s Fast & Furious 6 will in all likelihood boast the biggest opening weekend ever of any Fast and Furious movie. In its first three days out in late April 2011, Fast Five scored $86.19 million at 3,644 locations. Fast & Furious 6 could easily reach $92-95 million and possibly go as high as $100+ million by Sunday evening. For the four-day haul, Fast & Furious 6 could score $120 million. Is Fast & Furious 6 on its way to becoming a major blockbuster?...

Fast & Furious 6 box office: Best opening ever of a Fast and Furious movie? (Photo: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker in Fast & Furious 6) Fast & Furious 6 will easily top the North American box office on Friday, May 24. For comparison’s sake: Fast Five, which opened in late April 2011, earned $3.8 million at midnight screenings. (Check out: Fast & Furious 6 Memorial Day Weekend Box Office: $120 Million?) Fast & Furious 6 had the advantage of late-Thursday, pre-midnight screenings, and although the latest Fast and Furious movie is clearly ahead of its predecessor, we’re comparing melons and watermelons here. Starz has unveiled the first look at "Treasure Island"-inspired action series "Black Sails" from executive producer Michael Bay, and it's exactly what you'd expect from a Starz/Bay collaboration.
Set to premiere in 2014, the eight-episode series is the latest in Starz's brand of racy historical adventures including the recently concluded "Spartacus" and the recently launched "Da Vinci's Demons."
Set twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic "Treasure Island," the series centers on brilliant and feared pirate Captain Flint (Toby Stephens, who played the villain in "Die Another Day"), who accepts fast talking young man John Silver (Australian TV veteran Luke Arnold) onto his crew.
"Black Sails" was created by showrunner and executive producer Jon Steinberg (the of creator "Jericho" and "Human Target") and co-executive producer Robert Levine ("Touch").
The series is currently filming in Cape Town, South Africa, and also stars Zach McGowan ("Shameless"), Hannah New ("Maleficent...

FX’s anthology series American Horror Story has been renewed for a third season of bat-shit cray-cray. Actress Jessica Lange, who has found a whole new generation of fans thanks to her Emmy and Golden Globe winning role on the series, will return as well.
Two video games are heading to the big screen, as CBS Films will bring Deus Ex: Human Revolution, while Warner Bros. is looking to sign Tom Hardy to star in their version of Splinter Cell, which was created with the help of Tom Clancy and has spawned several successful tie-in novels.
ABC has decided not to order the back nine for either 666 Park Avenue or Last Resort. However, both shows will remain on the air through the 13 episodes that the network ordered. So, both shows will remain in production, perhaps giving the creators a chance to finish off their tales. Both should eventually land on...

Who doesn’t like a good pirate adventure? Starz is a fan. The network has ordered episodes of Black Sails, to be delivered by Jon Steinberg and Michael Bay. Today we learned two new actors have been cast. They are Zach McGowan and Luke Arnold.
Black Sails bypassed those uncertain waters where a series is just a pilot and no one knows if it will be picked up or not. Starz immediately asked for eight episodes.
The show is set 20 years before the events depicted in Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel, Treasure Island, explained Deadline. The show’s lead character is Flint, a savvy pirate. He and his new shipmate John Silver are trying to survive adventures on New Providence Island. And here’s fair warning. It may look like a paradise, but the isle hides other pirates, whores, thieves and more.
British actor Toby Stephens is Captain Flint.

Despite the fact that the movie still has no official title, the casting department of Fast & Furious 6 have had the pedal to the metal over the past few months. Gina Carano has joined the mix, Michelle Rodriguez is reprising her role as Letty, Luke Evans is taking over as the main villain, and Clara Paget is adding some blonde to the proceedings as a gunslinger with unclear allegiances. Now the movie has another jolt of badassery, as Variety reports that Joe Taslim, who played Sgt. Jaka in The Raid: Redemption, a stellar action film hitting Blu-Ray/DVD on August 14th next month, is also coming along for the ride. More below. Up until now, we haven't really known much about the plot other than Paul Walker and Vin Diesel's crew would be heading overseas to London with Dwayne Johnson and his team hot on their trail. Indonesian actor Joe Taslim ("The Raid") and model Clara Paget ("Johnny English Reborn") have joined the cast of Justin Lin's upcoming "Fast and Furious 6" at Universal Pictures says The Daily Mail and Variety.
The story involves the crew heading to Europe for a heist job, one complication this time is a rival crew has already staked out the payload.
Taslim will play the villain Jah, a cold-blooded killer who uses his martial arts and parkour skills against Paul Walker and Vin Diesel's heroes. Paget will play a "gun-slinging action woman".
Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson and Michelle Rodriguez are also returning, while newcomers for this entry include Mma fighter Gina Carano ("Haywire") and Welsh hunk Luke Evans ("The Hobbit").
Chris Morgan penned the script which reportedly involves a key scene in which an oil tanker explodes in Piccadilly Circus.

If Clara Paget doesn't already like fast cars, she's at least going to start acting like she does.
The British actress-model is gearing up for what could be her real big-screen break as she joins the cast of "Fast and Furious 6," according to The Playlist.
Paget will be taking on the sidekick role of Vegh, who's described as a "gun-slinging action woman." Whether she's slinging guns as a sidekick to the good guys or the bad guys remains to be seen.
This will be Paget's first high-profile role, as she's previously only had bit parts in the likes of "One Day," "Johnny English Reborn" and "St Trinian's II: The Legend of Fritton's Gold" (which is still one of the most delightfully awkward movie titles of all time).
Like the allegiance of Paget's character, details on the sixth "Fast and Furious" movie are being kept under wraps. We do know that...

It gives me — along with, to be fair, any fan of good comedy — great pleasure to notice this big year for Kathryn Hahn. Being one of the funniest parts of Wanderlust and one of the only funny people in The Dictator is good enough, I’d think — let’s not forget some strong supporting work on Girls, either — but the next piece is also the second role to come her way in just two weeks.
Variety reports that Hahn has been pegged to lead an indie comedy, Afternoon Delight, which was scripted by Jill Soloway (Six Feet Under); she’ll make this her debut directing job, as well. As the title may have lasciviously suggested, her film will see the actress play “a bored housewife seeking a spark,” and… well, that’s all there is to say. Save, obviously, for the prediction that Hahn will be quite funny in whatever this ends up turning into.

Action auteur Justin Lin is revving up to shoot The Fast and The Furious 6 at Shepperton Studios in Surrey, England, and has just added some local talent to the film series ever-expanding ensemble. The U.K.'s Daily Mail reveals high fashion model Clara Paget has signed on to play Vegh, a character described as a .gun-slinging action woman,. whatever that means. The Fast and The Furious 6 is presumed to take up where Fast 5 left off, with Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster's characters on the run with Dwayne Johnson's hulky cop in hot pursuit. The plot for the picture is being kept under wraps, though the after credits scene of Fast 5 revealed Michelle Rodriquez's brassy car thief Letty is back in play. We do know Mma fighter turned action heroine Gina Carano will join forces with Johnson, but there's no word on whether...

There haven't been very many roles for blondes in the Fast & Furious franchise with Jordana Brewster, Eva Mendes and Michelle Rodriguez taking the more prominent female roles. Hell, even Gina Carano is another brunette taking a prominent role in the new film. But the lack of blonde female fare changes with the sixth installment of the franchise, simply called Fast & Furious 6 for now, as Baz Bamigboye (via The Playlist) reveals that model Clara Paget has landed a role in the sequel as Vegh, who is described as "a gun-slinging action woman." It's sort of a sidekick role, and I'm betting it's with our fast-driving thieves too. It would make sense since the law side of the equation has Ms. Carano bringing more bad ass flare to the series. Meanwhile, Luke Evans is taking the role of the villain in the film. Of course, the plot is still being ...

Rev your engines, folks, because in case you forgot, Vin Diesel and his buddies are bringing back the smell of exhaust and Axe body spray to theaters with "Fast & Furious 6." And the movie that's currently in production has added a young fresh face to kick some ass alongside the boys. Model Clara Paget gets what will likely be her first substantial film role -- after appearances in "Johnny English Reborn" and "St. Trinian’s II: The Legend Of Fritton’s Gold" -- taking the sidekick role of Vegh, "a gun-slinging action woman." And that's about all we know, which is no surprise, considering the exact plot details have pretty much been kept under lock and key. But if anything, 'Furious 6' will have a number of women doling out the action right alongside the guys, including Michelle Rodriguez, "Haywire" star Gina Carano and the franchise regular Jordana Brewster. But what...
