H. P. Lovecraft was no fan of the cinema.
In a 1933 letter to poet Richard Morse (quoted in the book Lurker in the Lobby: A Guide to the Cinema of H. P. Lovecraft), he wrote:
"I shall never permit anything bearing my signature to be banalised and vulgarised into the flat, infantile twaddle which passes for 'horror tales' amongst radio and cinema audiences."
One can only imagine the venom that would have flowed from Lovecraft's pen had he seen The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu. Writer/actor/producer Devin McGinn's heart was in the right place, but this attempt to merge Lovecraftian horror with Shaun of the Dead humor fails miserably.
The film opens with Cthulhu cultists finding one part of the key that will open the gates of R'lyeh.

Henry Saine is the director behind The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu a film that mixes the humor of such Gen X styled comedies such as Reality Bites, Clueless, Floundering, etc. It then throws in some sci-fi with, of course, some horror. After all, this does have Lovecraft in the title and you couldn't do this type of film without some horror elements. Saine was all to bring a seamless quality to the narrative of the film making it so that the various story tangents flowed with one another, instead of feeling jerky or uneven. In The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu, Jeff an ordinary guy that is stuck at a dead end job with a boring life, but when a strange old man gives him an Ancient relic and tells him that he is the last bloodline of H.P. Lovecraft, He and his friend Charlie embark on an adventure...

The Last Lovecraft: Relic of Cthulhu, a horror comedy directed by Henry Saine and starring Kyle Davis, Devin McGinn, Matt Bauer, Honor Bliss and Sujata Day, arrives to DVD on February 15, 2011.
A desk jockey becomes a slayer of aquatic demons in this blend of horror, fantasy and comedy from director Henry Saine. Jeff (Kyle Davis) is a regular guy with a dull job in an office complex who is certain there's nothing remarkable about himself. But Jeff learns he's wrong when he's approached by an eccentric old man and told he's surviving relative of the great horror writer H.P. Lovecraft. That might seem interesting in itself, but there's more -- Jeff is informed Lovecraft's tales of terror weren't entirely fictional, and the Cthulhu, the evil fish-like humanoids that figured in so many of his stories, are real and poised to emerge from the sea and take over the world. Jeff...
