Foo Fighters enlisted Wolfgang Van Halen to play a prank on fans during their headlining set Saturday night (May 11th) at the Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, Florida.
After playing a medley of Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage,” “Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop,” and Nine Inch Nails’ “March of the Pigs,” frontman Dave Grohl complained to the crowd, “You know who never gets a fuckin’ solo? Me, goddammit, I never get a fuckin’ solo! So, since this is the last fuckin’ night of [our run of spring US dates], I’m gonna do a fuckin’ solo. How about that? … You may think, ‘That guy can’t play a fuckin’ solo.’ You wanna see me do a guitar solo right now?”

Grohl then appeared to play the classic Van Halen instrumental song “Eruption” like a champ, but things got weird when the song kept going after the Foo Fighters leader raised both arms in the air.

Foo Fighters pulled a prank on the Welcome to Rockville crowd Saturday, pretending to play a pair of Van Halen classics… only to reveal Mammoth Wvh’s Wolfgang Van Halen was actually performing in the wings.
The gag occurred during the headlining set’s usual mid-show medley featuring the music of drummer Josh Freese, but midway through, Dave Grohl complained that while all his band mates got their time in the spotlight, “I never get to fucking solo.”

Following the Paramount+ premiere of the new Wolfgang Van Halen episode of Behind the Music on Thursday (May 2nd), his mom, Valerie Bertinelli, has opened up about her tumultuous marriage to Eddie Van Halen. The actress posted a video on Instagram, admitting that she had turned her relationship with the late rock star into “some sort of fantasy, soulmate recreation of history.”
“I was finally able to watch Wolfie’s Behind the Music,” began Bertinelli. “It was not easy. I’d stopped it many times because it was just too brutal to watch for many reasons. One, seeing Wolfie’s pain. Two, seeing what a better job I could have done as a parent even though he turned out magnificently. I made a lot of mistakes.”

David Lee Roth has released the new song “Scotch and Sofa.” The track is the latest in a series of one-off singles from the Van Halen singer, and it might be the most eccentric of the bunch.
Laced with prominent horns, Dlr dabbles in a bit of salsa/disco on the song. There’s also a bit of the lounge-y cabaret vibes Diamond Dave has always had an affinity for. An Easter Egg for Van Halen fans comes in the form of his chorus delivery of “scotch and sofa” — which shares the same cadence as “hot for teacher.”
Roth shared the song on his YouTube channel under the title “Scotch and Sofa 4” but offered little else regarding its origin. Like his other recent post-“retirement” singles, the track might have came from recording sessions nearly a decade ago at Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood, California.
The recording sessions featured John 5 on guitar and bass,...

Valerie Bertinelli will not “die alone” as she suspected she would following her 2022 split from her second husband. The TV personality, who has weathered several rough years, including being unceremoniously fired from the Food Network just months ago, has someone new in her life. In a recent interview, Bertinelli talked about her new romance, but she won’t be naming any names. Her boyfriend will remain a mystery.
Valerie Bertinelli says she wasn’t expecting to fall in love
Bertinelli might want to keep the identity of her new man secret, but she isn’t shying away from discussing just how surprised she was to find herself in a new relationship. Bertinelli has discussed her love life multiple times over the years, and she was adamant that following her second divorce, she was content with being alone. Even now, in a chat with People, she insisted her new romance was never “supposed” to happen.

Ryan Gosling has been killing it on the career front with his performance in last year’s Barbie garnering much praise, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He won hearts at the Oscars this year with his rendition of the Oscar-nominated song ‘I’m Just Ken’, with celebrities such as Emma Stone and Margot Robbie joining in on the fun.
However, one person who was not present was Gosling’s partner Eva Mendes. Though the actress was seen near Gosling’s dressing room, she was notably absent at the ceremony while the Barbie star was bringing down the roof with his performance. All Ryan Gosling needed was a 40-piece orchestra, 62 dancing Kens, over 24 gigantic Barbie heads, four “cameo Kens” and a Guns N’Roses surprise to turn his highly anticipated performance of “Barbie” track “I’m Just Ken” into one of the most unbelievable moments in award show history.
After all the protracted speculation about whether Gosling would perform “I’m Just Ken” at the Oscars, the news broke in late February that he had been confirmed for a song and dance extravaganza. But in fact, Oscars producers had been talking to Gosling for months.
“Ryan Gosling is a true professional, that man — we met with him on Zooms months ago, talking about that performance,” said Molly McNearney, who produced the show with Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan and Rob Paine. “Greta Gerwig weighed in creatively as well. He was so committed to it. His choreographer, Mandy Moore, is exceptional — she was on all the calls.

Though she had a ticket to sit in the audience at the Oscars, choreographer Mandy Moore, who helmed Sunday’s show-stealing “I’m Just Ken” number, couldn’t help but stand in the wings and give all the Kens a pep talk before they headed onstage.
“It was so hype,” Moore said of the energy backstage.
The performance saw Barbie movie star and Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling, in a bright pink bedazzled suit and cowboy hat, lead an army of 62 Kens, as well as his fellow Barbie movie Kens — Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Scott Evans — in an all-out dance number that paid homage to Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, included “street-style dancing,” filled the stage with Barbie cardboard cut-outs and ended in a Rockettes-style kickline.

Wolfgang Van Halen has reacted to a recent rant in which he was verbally assaulted by David Lee Roth for incidents that allegedly occurred when they were both in Van Halen.
Back in January, Diamond Dave posted a video to his YouTube channel that essentially served as a long voice-over monologue insulting Wolfgang. The clip started with Roth suggesting that the late Eddie Van Halen’s son benefitted from nepotism, and then went on to accuse the young musician of trying to throw Roth’s guests out of Van Halen shows. Throughout the entire rant, Roth continuously referred to Wolfgang as “this fuckin’ kid.”
In a new interview with the radio show The Morning X With Barnes & Leslie (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), Wolfgang was asked why he thinks Roth would spew such “vile” venom toward him. He responded, “I guess I’m honored he even thinks about me as much as he seems to.

Speaking to Consequence in a recent interview, Ronson explained that having Slash, Van Halen, and Freese play on the track was an idea they came up with at the “11th hour.”
“We wrote it as this ballad and it was pretty earnest, just piano — it was really lovely, because Ryan’s vocal over it was really vulnerable. But then we started playing it against the film and there’s this battle scene happening — Saving Private Ryan, but on, like, pedal boats,” Ronson said. “It needed to get bigger and bigger and bigger.

He’s just Ken … not a guy who likes to sing at awards shows.
One of the big question marks about the 96th Academy Awards ceremony on March 10 is whether or not Ryan Gosling will perform his Oscar-nominated show-stopper “I’m Just Ken,” one of the five nominees for Best Song. The actor has been extremely coy about making an appearance, making jokes like, “Do you get paid to sing at the Oscars?”
The send-up of 1980s power ballads is nominated for Best Song and was co-written and produced by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. Ronson, the British hit-maker with an Oscar win for “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” and eight Grammys for work with Amy Winehouse, Silk City, and his own pop juggernaut, “Uptown Funk,” was spotted on the Grammys red carpet Sunday night by Variety, and asked if he had any further intel.
“Did he confirm to you?...

Wolfgang Van Halen and Evh have announced the launch of a signature model guitar dubbed the Sa-126. The instrument will be available beginning in May.
Evh is the company started in 2005 by Wolfgang’s late father, Eddie Van Halen, in collaboration with Fender. While the number “126” and the timing of the announcement both pay homage to his dad’s birthday (January 26th), Wolfgang sought out to create a guitar that was very much his own.
“The Sa-126 was born out of necessity for finding my own sound,” said Wolfgang in a press release. “I wanted to do my own thing and that’s how I gravitated towards semi-hollow bodies and how it became my core sound. The goal was to put together a guitar that didn’t exist yet, which merged the beauty and wonderful warm tones of a classic semi-hollow guitar but with the performance style and neck that Evh gear is known for.

David Lee Roth is in full vendetta mode these days. After hitting back at Sammy Hagar last week, he’s now turned his attention to Wolfgang Van Halen.
The longtime Van Halen singer posted a YouTube video on Wednesday (January 24th) deriding the son of the late Eddie Van Halen. The clip starts out with a conversation between Diamond Dave and “Jesus Christ” that metaphorically suggests that Wolfgang benefitted from nepotism when he was tapped to play bass in Van Halen as a teenager back in 2007.
The immature Jesus voice says, “Bro, I just want people to know … I got this job because of my talent. I woulda had this job anyway even if my dad wasn’t God.”
Then, Dlr goes into a long story about how Wolfgang complained about not getting enough attention from the singer, and that the young Van Halen supposedly mistook the band’s accountants...

Van Halen ended as a band with the 2020 passing of guitarist Eddie Van Halen, but tensions between the surviving members appear to be very much alive.

Wolfgang Van Halen continues to be an outspoken fan of progressive extreme metal band Meshuggah.
Wolfgang recently took part in Amoeba Music’s “What’s in My Bag?” video series, flipping through the vinyl selections at the famed record store’s location in Hollywood, California.
The videos are a fascinating look into the music tastes of the artists themselves, and Wolfgang’s Amoeba haul is reflective of the core influences in his own music.
One band in particular — Meshuggah — has been a recurring namedrop for Wolfgang, as he previously cited the prog metallers as a direct influence on parts of the second Mammoth Wvh album and even put the band on his wedding playlist. Not surprisingly, the first items he picked up at Amoeba were two different vinyl variants of Meshuggah’s latest album Immutable, along with copies of the Swedish band’s Nothing and Koloss.

“I’m Just Ken,” the showstopping number performed by Ryan Gosling in “Barbie,” took Mark Ronson and co-songwriting partner Andrew Wyatt just two days to write. “But we needed the entire year to make it what it was,” notes Ronson.
It’s been a contender to nab an Oscar original song nomination ever since it was first teased in the film’s trailer earlier this year. Part power ballad and part dance-off, “I’m Just Ken” showcases Ken at his neediest, with such lyrics as “Is it my destiny to live and die a life of blonde fragility?”
Their writing process included at least four or five different versions of the catchy tune. “We had it pretty quick, but then Greta asked for the bridge bit,” says Ronson.
However, once they saw a rough cut of Greta Gerwig’s film, Ronson asked to score it, and recorded the song and...

Congratulations are in order for Wolfgang Van Halen, who married his longtime girlfriend, Andraia Allsop, in a ceremony at their Los Angeles home on Sunday (October 15th). The rocker brought a little metal to the festivities by including the mighty Meshuggah on the wedding playlist.
Wolfgang and Andraia got married on the eighth anniversary of their first date. According to People, the bride was walked down the aisle by her father as Dean Martin’s “Everybody Loves Somebody” played.
Meanwhile, Wolfgang walked down the aisle with his mom, Valerie Bertinelli, to a tune written by his late father, the legendary Eddie Van Halen. “The song that my father had written for me, it’s an instrumental piece called ‘316,’ he told People in a pre-wedding interview. “It’ll be a nice way to include my dad.”

Wolfgang Van Halen’s Mammoth Wvh recently performed on NBC’s Today show, and in a heartwarming moment, cameras captured his mom, actress Valerie Bertinelli, and fiancée, Andraia Allsop, cheering on the band from the sidelines.

Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" is the kind of movie that makes you wonder "How did they do that?" a dozen different times over the course of its runtime. The box office hit of the summer is chock full of movie magic, from its Dream House sets decked out to the most minute detail with real Mattel merch made life-size, to its practically achieved transition montage to the real world. Now, one of its biggest sequences -- the chart-climbing musical extravaganza "I'm Just Ken" -- is finally getting the behind-the-scenes treatment with an official music video from Atlantic Records.
The "I'm Just Ken" video follows in the tradition of great tie-in music videos past, in that it basically doubles as a featurette showing how the film's biggest sequence came together. If you want to see the layers of music, choreography, vocals, and more that went into the scene, this is the video for you.

“The one thing I wanted to avoid was the sophomore slump,” says Wolfgang Van Halen — and if anything, his just-released second album as Mammoth Wvh, Mammoth II, is a major step up from his impressive 2021 debut. The choruses and riffs are both big enough to match his band name, and the album is full of heavy, pleasingly tricky instrumental interplay that’s all the more impressive when you recall that Van Halen once again played every note on every instrument himself. He’s also embracing a key part of his...

Metallica kicked off the North American leg of their 2023-2024 “M72 World Tour” on Friday (August 4th) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band was joined on the bill by fellow metal legends Pantera and rising rockers Mammoth Wvh (led by Wolfgang Van Halen).
The tour (get tickets here) features Metallica performing two completely unique sets (no repeat songs) over two nights in each city, with different support acts each evening. They’ll be right back at MetLife on Sunday (August 6th), with Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills opening.
The setup has the bands performing in the round, on a circular stage in the middle of the stadium, with some fans in the “Snakepit” (the center of the circle).
While there was a forecast for thunderstorms on Friday night, that never came to be, making for a comfortable summer evening in New Jersey.

He’s just Ken, but he’s Kenough to enter the Billboard Hot 100. “I’m Just Ken,” Ryan Gosling‘s ballad for the Barbie movie, has officially entered the charts at No. 87.
“I’m Just Ken” marks Gosling’s first appearance on the Billboard charts, a milestone made all the more funny when you learn the actor has ventured into music before, in a more serious capacity (check out his indie band Dead Man’s Bones). Still, if you ask us, the song is a welcome addition to the cultural canon, the culmination of Gosling’s complete commitment to playing the anguished righthand man to everyone’s favorite doll.
In addition to “I’m Just Ken,” which features contributions from rock royalty Slash, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Josh Freese, Gosling recorded another memorable song for Barbie: a cover of Matchbox Twenty’s “Push.” That number comes later in the film,...

Wolfgang Van Halen‘s Mammoth Wvh have shared the video for “I’m Alright,” the latest single from the upcoming Mammoth II full-length, out Friday (August 4th).
The five-minute track is a propulsive hard rocker highlighted by a strong vocal performance from Wolfgang. He shows off his soulful side here, extending notes and hitting some impressive melodic vibratos. And as we’ve come to expect from Wolfgang and his band, there’s plenty of surging guitars and stadium-ready chords.
“’I’m Alright’ is the single that is coinciding with the album release,” explained Wolfgang in a press release. “I think it’s really funny that the lyrics are quite angry but delivered through the lens of sort of a comfy rock song. If there ever was an anthem for myself about standing up for what I believe I should be doing — as opposed to what people expect — this is certainly that song.

Brandi Carlile has shared a cover of Indigo Girls’ “Closer to Fine,” which appears as a bonus cut on the “Best Weekend Ever Edition” of the Barbie soundtrack alongside star Ryan Gosling’s version of Matchbox Twenty’s classic hit “Push.”
Carlile and her wife, Catherine Carlile, transform the rollicking original version of “Closer to Fine” into an acoustic ballad intertwining their beautiful vocals. Stream it below.
“Closer to Fine” appears on Indigo Girls’ self-titled second studio album, which marked their first major label release when it came out in 1989. Carlile previously performed the song with the folk duo during a June 2008 show in Tucson, Arizona — one of the many times she’s appeared on stage with the pioneering group. They also appeared on “Cannonball” from Carlile’s 2007 album, The Story. Last year, she presented Indigo Girls with the Spirit of Americana Free Speech Award at the Americana Music Honors & Awards.

Mammoth Wvh — the Grammy-nominated rock band spearheaded by Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang Van Halen — have unveiled the new song “Take a Bow.” The track appears on the upcoming album Mammoth II, arriving August 4th.
The new single marks the third song that Wolfgang has released from Mammoth II, following “Like a Pastime” and “Another Celebration at the End of the World.” It’s the longest track on the album, clocking in at nearly seven minutes.
“Take a Bow” will likely appeal to Eddie Van Halen fans, as the track features a dramatic guitar solo that Wolfgang performed on his late father’s original Frankenstein guitar while playing it through the Van Halen legend’s Marshall head amp and cabinet.
“It was the last song we finished,” Wolfgang said of the new track in a statement. “It’s officially the longest song I’ve released to date, and I...

Wolfgang Van Halen has shared “Like a Pastime,” the second single from his band Mammoth Wvh’s forthcoming sophomore album, Mammoth II, out August 4th.
Wolfgang previously said that he was taking inspiration from progressive bands such as Meshuggah on the new album. Although “Like a Pastime” isn’t nearly as extreme at Meshuggah, the track does make use of polyrhythms — a prog staple.
“It centers around a 4/4-time signature, but with a polyrhythm on top,” Wolfgang said via a press release. “I was teaching my fiancée what a polyrhythm is, and I stumbled upon this idea. The kick drums are accentuating it. It’s certainly one of my favorites and a completely different vibe than anything on the first album.”
As he did on the first album, Wolfgang plays all instruments on the upcoming sophomore effort. The guitar parts are definitely more kinetic and varied on the two songs...
