- His final tally of 8832 test runs stood as a Pakistani record for over 20 years until Younis Khan overtook it during the 2015-16 season.

However, unlike the other 3, Miandad failed to average 50 overseas, with his final away average being just around 46.
- At the time of his retirement from international cricket, his aggregate of 7381 ODI runs was the second highest in the format, behind West Indies legend Desmond Haynes.
- Alongside his captain Imran Khan, he infamously mocked Sachin Tendulkar on the Indian's debut in 1989, to the point taunting whether "what's this school kid doing here". Ironically, Sachin became an international cricketing superstar by the end of 1995 and in 2001 was voted by Wisden as the second greatest batsman of all-time in both tests and ODIs.

- During the 1981-82 tour of Australia, he was involved in an ugly spat with legendary pace bowler Dennis Lillee in the test match at Perth. Lillee blocked Miandad's run and kicked him on the foot to which Miandad responded by raising his bat as if preparing to strike at Lillee. The controversial event led to Miandad being replaced as Pakistan's captain by Imran Khan.
- Captained Pakistan in 34 tests, winning 14 and losing 6. Also captained the team in 62 One Day Internationals, winning 26 and losing 33.
