Tom Hardy, it looks like Hardy is going to play a notorious serial killer in the new Apple TV+ drama series _Lazarus.
Based on the Joona Linna book series by Lars Kepler (a pseudonym for Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril), Lazarus sees an emaciated young man found wandering along a train track. Over a decade earlier, he and his sister went missing, and were presumed to be victims of multiple murderer Jurek Walter (Hardy). A search for the sister is launched, headed up by police detective Saga Bauer, set to be played by Joker and Atlanta star Zazie Beetz. Bauer goes undercover in a maximum-security psychiatric hospital where Walter resides since his arrest to try and get some details out of him – and, yep, if that’s sounding familiar, there’s definitely a Hannibal Lecter-Clarice Starling vibe to all of this.

Apple TV+ is kind of an oddity in the streaming world — it doesn't have the kind of draw as some of the big dogs like Netflix or HBO Max, but it does have some incredible original programming. Seriously, it's worth checking out for at least a month and binging all of "Mythic Quest," "Ted Lasso," and "Severance" out so far. Now it looks like there might be another reason to check out the streaming service, as Deadline reports that a new murder mystery series called "Lazarus" will be coming to Apple TV+. Why is "Lazarus" exciting? It's set to feature "Deadpool 2" and "Atlanta" star Zazie Beetz and "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" and "Peaky Blinders" star Tom Hardy in the lead roles, which sounds amazing.
The series is still in very early development, which means that everything here is subject to change and will be updated as new information comes out,...

There’s a chance Tom Hardy and Zazie Beetz will team up to star in Lazarus, a serial killer drama series in early development at Apple TV+. I said, “there’s a chance” because the project is, technically, “nearing development,” according to Deadline. In other words, the ink still needs to be dry, and deals are still in the works. Lazarus is a co-production between A+E Studios and Range Studios, with plans to sell the package to Apple.
Based on the Joona Linna book series by Lars Kepler (pseudonym for Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril), Lazarus gives off The Silence of the Lambs vibes while telling a dark tale about murder and a search for the truth.
Here’s a description of Lars Kepler’s Lazarus via Deadline‘s exclusive report:

From celebrated director Lasse Hallström (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Salmon Fishing In The Yemen) comes The Hypnotist, a new tense and brutal crime thriller based on the best-selling novel by Lars Kepler. A must-see for fans of The Killing and Scandinavian book-to-film adaptations by authors such as Jo Nesbø (Headhunters) and Stieg Larsson (The Millenium Trilogy).
In the middle of a dark December night, psychiatrist Erik Maria Bark (Mikael Persbrandt) is woken by a telephone call from a hospital in Stockholm. Detective Inspector Joona Linna (Tobias Zilliacus) asks for his immediate help in treating an unconscious patient suffering from acute trauma. He hopes that Erik will be able to communicate with the young boy through hypnosis, enabling the police to question him. They intend to find out who so brutally murdered his parents and younger sister, in order to track down and save his mysteriously missing older sister before it is too late.

Director Lasse Hallstrom brings us an intriguing drama with flashes of bloodshed but little satisfaction. Here's Aliya's DVD review...
Lasse Hallstrom is a director who brings a sharp eye to personal relationships. For instance, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) and Chocolat (2000) are both films that take their time to investigate a family dynamic, building to a feeling of intimacy, and you get much the same kind of feeling in the best moments of his latest film, The Hypnotist. Unfortunately this emotional element is muddied by a plot that never quite ties up and a few characters who aren’t afforded the same kind of room to develop.
The film is based on the novel of the same name, written by a Swedish husband and wife team under the pseudonym Lars Kepler, and it contains every element you would expect from a Scandinavian crime drama, including snowscapes and jumpers and the...

Swedish thiller The Hypnotist has some good pedigree behind it. It is based on a novel by Lars Kepler, one of the stars of the new wave of Scandinavian crime fiction; it's directed by Lasse Hallström, whose previous films include What's Eating Gilbert Grape and The Cider House Rules, and it's Sweden's official entry for the Oscars. Luckily, this pedigree shows in a substantial, tight film that takes its time unfolding and yet keeps tension alive. Police detective Joona Linna is investigating the triple murder of a family; one son, Josef, is in a coma, and one estranged daughter is missing. Unable to find any clues, he calls upon a disgraced hypnotist, Erik Bark, to try and get an answer from the comatose son. But...

Any time Guillermo del Toro has an announcement to make, you know it's going to be an exciting one, and fans have been anxiously waiting to hear word on this latest update from the Mexican director. Del Toro first announced his reboot of Disney's "Haunted Mansion" (based on the popular theme park ride) in the summer of 2010 to the excitement of many, but news quickly faded. Collider, however, recently spoke to the "Pacific Rim" filmmaker who offered this news:

Well, here's something we haven't really seen before from Lasse Hallström. The director, who has mostly been coasting on edgeless, forgettable, feel good fare for the past decade or longer ("Dear John," "Salmon Fishing In Yemen," "Hachi: A Dog's Tale," "The Hoax" etc.) has shifted gears considerably, getting behind the camera for the thriller "The Hypnotist," his first Swedish language film in 24 years. Best known for films like Susanne Bier’s In A Better World or, more poignantly, Everlasting Moments, actor Mikael Persbrandt has found himself on the tip of tongues around Hollywood.
Now, Bloody Disgusting is reporting that the actor has found a brand new gig to call his own. The outlet is reporting that he’ll star in Lasse Hallstrom’s (My Life As A Dog) upcoming take on the Lars Kepler novel, The Hypnotist. The actor, who will next be seen as Beorn in The Hobbit, will take on the role of Detective Joona Linna, a man who must look into a triple homicide, by having a survivor hypnotized.
The film will shoot this winter following The Hobbit, and could very well be the start of a Girl With The Dragon Tattoo-like franchise. Personally, while I’ve never read the book, I do really like Persbrandt as a thespian, and in this type of film,...

So I have three casting related stories for you and a couple of around the Internet obscurities that are more interesting than they are newsworthy. Let's get to it.
Twitch, the website that first reported Spike Lee would be directing the Oldboy remake, is now reporting Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) is at the top of Mandate's casting wishlist for the film's lead role. Choi Min-Sik played the role in Chan-wook Park's highly-acclaimed South Korean version.
The site also reports both Chan-wook Park's 2003 original film and the Japanese manga it was adapted from will be used as source material for Lee's film.
A comparison to Martin Scorsese's adaptation of Infernal Affairs, written by William Monahan, is said to be a good comparison for how the film will be treated. Just like The Departed we can expect "characters and scenarios from the source material as a...

Hypnosis. Man, we just don't get it. As popular as the notion of someone being able to put you in a trance and search the dark recesses of your mind is, we're as skeptical as can be. Unless of course it's a comedy act and we get to watch a one-legged man hump a chair (the visions are still burned into our psyches).
In any event, word has come today that Hobbit star Mikael Persbrandt has signed on to play Detective Linna in Lasse Hallstrom's big screen adaptation of the Lars Kepler novel The Hypnotist. The film is the first in a planned franchise based on Kepler's Detective Joona Linna series.
In the novel Detective Linna investigates a grisly triple homicide where the only survivor, a young boy, is too traumatized to testify. Linna convinces a famous psychologist, against his better judgment, to hypnotize the boy, setting off a terrifying chain of events.
