Robert L. Walter

Bob Walter was originally hired as a summer replacement at ABC in 1964. He was eighteen years old. Because of his experience at his college radio station, he was made an audio engineer. He remains the youngest audio engineer in network history. He displayed a talent for managing live broadcasts without error. He was assigned to the Les Crane Show. He left ABC TV to return to college and returned to the ABC Radio Network in the news department in 1965. In 1969 he moved to CBS News. In his role as audio engineer and tape editor, he witnessed political conventions, riots, and the launch of Apollo 13. He left CBS in 1974.
