Ricardo Villarreal was born in Monterrey, Mexico. He has a bachelor's degree in communication sciences from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and has a master's degree in business from the University of Tampa in Florida. He started as a filmmaker in Los Angeles in 2008, where he directed and produced "The Dominguez," a feature-length documentary about a pioneer family who helped shape the history of Los Angeles and California, and which premiered on TV on KCET Los Angeles in 2010. He co-directed and produced "Ride with Larry" (2013), an Award-Winning, inspirational feature-length documentary about Parkinson's disease which also explores the topic of medicinal cannabis. He is part of the competition jury for Cinema Culturas Film Festival in California.
