Produced advertising posters in the Art Déco style - a few of which appear in
L'Age d'Or (1930), a surrealism satire to the bourgeoisie. He started mixing art illustration with photographs, an art in which he was followed by Jean Carlu (1900-1997). They presented a poster to the 22nd Salon des Artistes Modernes (Grand Palais, Paris), that was soon taken down by the Salon in what became an historic case of art censorship against the authors' appeal for pacifism and demilitarization of all nations in the wake of WWI.
