While numerous electronic music promoters crumble under the weight of the Edm industry’s recent contraction, Ultra has proven itself capable of weathering the storm. It wasn’t long ago that Ultra Singapore‘s organizers revealed that the two-day festival would kick off in 2016, and now they’ve followed up the announcement by unveiling its phase 1 lineup.
Afrojack, Axwell /\ Ingrosso, deadmau5, Kygo, Nero and DJ Snake comprise the biggest chunk of names on Ultra Singapore’s present talent roster, while Far East Movement, Jauz and Marshmello all find their logos in the smaller row – which speaks to Far East Movement’s relevance in the Singapore market.
Last year’s Road To Ultra was held at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre in Singapore, although it only consisted of one day and was held indoors. Ticket demand for Ultra Singapore is expected to dwarf last year’s event, and a total...

Progressive house trio Swanky Tunes might be demonstrating that they’re out of touch with their recent releases. After collaborating with bygone era superstars Far East Movement last month, they’ve now teamed up with fellow Russians Going Deeper on the aptly titled “Drownin’,” whose melodies might have turned more heads if they’d put it out last year.
Similar to Swanky Tunes’ previous Going Deeper collaboration, “Far From Home,” “Drownin'” exhibits the square-peg-in-a-round-hole approach in which reverberant future house bass lines are complacently thrown together with a progressive house buildup-drop scheme. What results is yet another Edm cliché that falls short of the fluid stylistic synthesis its producers attempted to achieve.
A preview of Swanky Tunes and Going Deeper’s “Drownin'” can be heard in the SoundCloud player above, and the full version is now out by way of Armada Music sub-label Showland Records. After giving it a listen,...

Chu, and Freddie Wong are the YouTubers involved in Take Your Shot, a filmmaking competition hosted by Isa TV and At&T. The contest began in July when the three mentors each posted videos on their personal channels urging creators to submit their pitch ideas. The top 50 were collected on the contest's website, and until August 18th, fans can vote on their favorite ideas. After voting ends, the top 10 semifinalists will be announced, with the three winners revealed on August 26th. Far East Movement, the hip hop group best known for its incredibly catchy 2010 smash hit, 'Like a G6', recently rolled out a new music video. However, unlike most artists signed to a major label (Interscope, in their case), the group did not choose to distribute its work via Vevo. Instead, Far East Movement has dropped 'The Illest' on Maker Music, and a bunch of Maker Studios creators show up in brief cameos. 'The Illest' features the members of Far East Movement getting down in an office, where they are later joined by the office's employees and some other special guests. Unpredictable rapper Riff Raff drops a verse in the song, and the list of Maker creators who make cameos includes Nice Peter, Watsky, Rawn, Steve Greene, and Jeffree Star, among many, many others. Before you watch it, be warned: this video is very ill. Don't watch too closely, lest...

Misheard song lyrics are the stuff of legend, with Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" being a canonical example of what happens when inflection doesn't go as planned (no, it's not "hold me closer, Tony Danza"). Spotify tried to lend a touch of science to our collective inability to hear certain lines as musicians intended them, and conducted a poll to identify the most misquoted song lyrics of all time.
Coming in at No. 1 on the list is Manfred Mann's Earth Band, who's "Blinded By the Light" is often mistaken as including the line "wrapped up like a douche when you're rollin' in the night." The actual line? "Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night."
Take a look at the Spotify's Top 10 Misquoted Song Lyrics below and stream a playlist of the mistakenly catchy tracks. What lyrics do you struggle with the most?
1. Blinded by the light.

Several of YouTube's most prominent Asian-American stars are getting their game on. ISAtv, a channel owned by Wong Fu Productions and Far East Movement (of 'Like a G6' fame) has launched a variety program titled Isa! that emulates crazy Japanese game shows. The show features an impressive roster of talent. Wong Fu's Philip Wang, The Guild's Amy Okuda, and KevJumba host, while contestants include David Choi, Freddie Wong, and Brandon Laatsch, who identifies himself as the show's "only Caucasian contestant." In the first quarter of Isa!, each contestant reveals two truths and one lie about himself or herself, with plenty of colorful graphics and funny graphics keeping up the Japanese feel. The second quarter features a game of "Pass It On", where the contestants must act out a given phrase charades-style. Suffice to say, it does not go so well. Parts three and four will be released shortly.

Katy Perry brought two of her best accessories to the 2013 inauguration: Her striped Rodarte coat, and her boyfriend John Mayer. The jacket came from the Rodarte Fall 2012 collection, and Perry complimented it simply with black sunglasses and a fedora.
This more subdued fashion statement is a marked contrast to the outfit she wore to the Kids' Inaugural Concert over the weekend. There she donned a very patriotic, pin-up inspired outfit replete with stars, stripes and a top hat as she performed for Michelle Obama and her daughters Sasha and Malia, as well as other military families.
"I'm very proud to be here and to see the Obamas and the Bidens here for four more years!" she said at the concert according to the New York Daily News. Also performing at the event were Usher, Mindless Behavior and Far East Movement.

Washington — Usher sang "Yeah!" Katy Perry donned star and stripes for "Firework." And a ballroom full of lucky kids got to rock out with Sasha and Malia Obama at Saturday's Kids' Inaugural Concert, a star-studded event that honors America's military families.
"Now, inauguration is a pretty big deal," first lady Michelle Obama, who hosted the event along with Jill Biden, told the assembled families at the Washington Convention Center. "But I have to tell you that my very favorite part of this entire weekend is being right here with all of you." She paid tribute to the sacrifices that military families make, including their kids.
Pointing out that such kids often attend six to nine schools by the end of high school, always having to be "the new kid," she said being a military kid meant "growing up just a little faster, and working just a little harder than other kids.

But 2012 is not 2008 and while the Dems have certainly attracted a few ounces of star power to the convention, it’s not going to be the first-class lounge/Oscar backstage feeling it was four years ago, when the Cold War Kids opened a Shepard Fairey art exhibit and Google co-hosted a party with Vanity Fair. As is the case with any outdoor music festival -- or anything else held in the city of Chicago -- sometimes the actual meat of any particular goings-on can be overshadowed by the weather that serves as its backdrop.
As it happened last year when a series of downpours soaked Lollapalooza to the bones, the 2012 edition is sure to be at least partially defined by the incredibly oppressive heat. Temperatures Friday, the festival's opening day, hit 95 degrees, the hottest temperature Chicago has seen in August in six years, leaving the 100,000 concertgoers who packed in Grant Park on the mega-fest's first day caked in sweat.

Temperatures Friday, the festival's opening day, hit 95 degrees, the hottest temperature Chicago has seen in August in six years, leaving the 100,000 concertgoers who packed in Grant Park on the mega-fest's first day caked in sweat.

Los Angeles — With "Step Up Revolution," their second summertime at-bat after "Rock of Ages," producers Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot return to one of the things they do best – making young unknowns look like the next big thing. In its fourth installment, however, the "Step Up" franchise has traded an air of inevitability for one of predictability. While die-hard fans and dance fanatics will respond on the opening weekend, ongoing competition from superheroes and cute cartoon characters may slow momentum in subsequent weeks.
After dancing its way across Baltimore and New York City in previous iterations, "Step Up" moves to Miami, where homeboys Sean (Ryan Guzman) and Eddy (Misha Gabriel) have been best buds since toddler-hood and now lead a local dance flash mob known as, well, "The Mob," just to keep things simple. Together with their crew, including choreographers, visual artists and a DJ, the guys have been busting...

You gotta hand it to Summit. It seems they don't fear Gotham's reckoning nor the comedy powers of Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller, as at the end of the month, they'll be dropping "Step Up Revolution," the fourth entry in the surprisingly still-running franchise in which teenagers solve their problems through the power of dance. And while the budgets might have gotten smaller, the music department still seems to have the same latitude to spend. While the movie itself doesn't boast any name-brand stars (sorry, Channing Tatum won't be coming back), the soundtrack features the kind of artists kids are blasting from their mobile phones these days. The mix of music is a bit all over the place, from the tedium of Jennifer Lopez, Travis Barker, Far East Movement, Fergie and Travis Porter, to some stand-out talent like veteran beatmaker, remixer and knobtwiddler Diplo, posh revolutionary M.I.A., and perhaps most intriguingly,...

A group with a No. 1 hit song is a tough act to follow, particularly if you’re in that group. Far East Movement earned the top spot with their song “Like a G6” in 2010, and made some headway on radio, too, with “Rocketeer.” Now the hip-hop-loving dance quartet is back with their album “Dirty Bass,” with the hope to achieve some of the same widespread success. Cameos from artists like Tyga, Cassie and freakishly popular Justin Bieber should, y’know, help. “Right after ‘G6’ we kept staying on the road and we’d see the crowds and thought, ‘This is crazy.’ But...

The guys of Far East Movement wanted to shake things up a bit for their new album, Dirty Bass, in order to get you shaking in the club.
They not only wanted to make beats that would get people dancing even dirtier when they hit the dance floor, giving the album its title, they also wanted to get people to scratch their heads when they heard just who they had enlisted for the release, out this week.
Far East Movement recruited some unexpected A-listers for Dirty Bass, ranging from pop titans like Justin Bieber and Tokio Hotel's Bill Kaulitz to urban music's own prince and princess, Tyga and Cassie.

Fast 5 director Justin Lin has teamed up with KevJumba (Kevin Wu) and NigaHiga (Ryan Higa) to launch the Yomyomf Network, one of YouTube's slate of funded original channels announced last October. Today Yomyomf launched a promo video "Bananapocalypse" which stars KevJumba, Higa, and Chester See in what could be best described as a massive pillow fight without the pillows. The crazy video features appearances from Jessica Alba, Tyrese, Sung Kang (Fast Five), Masi Oka, Wayne Brady, Harry Shum Jr. (Glee), and a bunch of puppets. "This is where the magic is made and all of Google's money is spent—on cool stuff like Jessica Alba washing a car with her sexy friends," KevJumba says in the video. Lin, whose directing credits also include MTV's Better Luck Tomorrow,Universal's Fast & Furious and episodes of the NBC comedy Community, created the Yomyomf channel out of YouOffendMeYouOffendMyFamily.com, an Asian American pop culture...

Ever wondered what it would sound like if the Far East Movement enlisted Tokio Hotel's glammy, gothy lead singer Bill Kaulitz for a track? Well, wonder no more, because now we have "If I Die Tomorrow."
The collaboration, which dropped Friday (May 18), leans more on FM's love for partying than Kaulitz's love for rocking. While FM rap all about bumping trunks, killing bottles and going crazy in the club, Kaulitz, in full auto-tuned, falsetto mode, proclaims, "If I die tomorrow, that means we had the night of our lives/ If tomorrow never comes, then tonight we lose control."

Los Angeles — Far East Movement has provided a thumping soundtrack to clubs around the world, so it seems appropriate that the group prepared for their latest album by doing essential research – a week of clubbing in Las Vegas.
"We said: `We've been touring so much, we need to get back and just wild out; remember what it's like to be like party animals for a little bit and just not care,'" said frontman Kev Nish (real name: Kevin Nishimura). "So we literally spent a week in Vegas – partied every night and went to the studio that night and just wrote songs."
In the morning, the question became: "What did I write?" Nish joked, before turning serious: "That's how some of our favorite work was written and it really helped us to get back in the zone."
The result is "Dirty Bass," a collection designed to advance the four-man group's...

Looks like the "Party Rockin" will not be ending anytime soon.
Lmfao have fired back at a recent New York Post report that the Grammy-nominated duo were on the verge of a breakup over money made from their chart-topping singles. On Monday, the group released a video on RedFoo's YouTube page rebutting all reports that the bandmates were hanging up their party hats.
The clip starts off with Sky Blu, clad in a spiked bedazzled jacket, telling the audience, "Sky Blu back! I feel good, man." Soon after, he is joined by RedFoo, his uncle, who is holding a copy of Thursday's New York Post.

When MTV News caught up with the fellas of FM recently, they shared what the motto is for the 26-date trek, which will also feature the Quest Crew, Sidney Samson, Eva Simons and Natalia Kills. "It's gonna be a whole lot of bass and a whole lot of showers," J-Splif explained. "Bring your raincoats."
"There's going to be a little bit of wiggling going on," Kev Nish added. "There's gonna be shuffling, booty popping, a lot of movement. That's what both crews like to do. Big shout-out to [Lmfao's] RedFoo and the Party Rock Crew and [our label] Cherry Tree, really, for putting this all together.

You wanted it, you got it. Whatever you think of this weekend's outrageous found footage party movie "Project X" there is no denying that the filmmakers provided a serious playlist to accompany the debauchery on screen. And while 13 of those songs were collected for the official soundtrack that was released earlier this week, we've heard from more than a few readers that they want to know every song that was featured in the film. Well, we've tracked down that list and here it is: all the music that rocked your eardrums in "Project X."
And really, there is something here for everybody. For people looking for straight up party bangers there are more than a few options, but for stuffier folks who like their music to be critically approved and maybe slightly more underground, bands like The xx, Four Tet, Amon Tobin, Animal Collective and LCD Soundsystem are all featured.
