- Katya Stepanov was born Ekaterina Stepanova in Minsk, Belarus to Tatiana Stepanov and Oleg Stepanov. At the age of three, she and her parents immigrated to New Jersey. She has one brother, Nickolas Stepanov. Education: BFA '13 in Acting from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama. Katya graduated from Fair Lawn High School in 2009. In 2008, she won the Helen Hayes Regional Theater Award for Best Supporting Actress. Katya holds a Bachelor of Fine Art in Acting from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama. She is an Andrew Carnegie Scholar, and has additionally studied at the Moscow Art Theater, Lee Strasberg School and Rhodopi International Theater Laboratory. - Katya was nominated 3 times for Best Supporting Actress at Paper Mill Playhouse's High School Theater Awards in her time at FLHS. She is also a graduate of Paper Mill's acclaimed summer conservatory.
- She was a professional Latin Ballroom Dancer for 10 years under the training of Maksim Chmerkovskiy, from Dancing With the Stars. She placed as Top 3 in the USABDA National Competition when she was only 12 years old.

- After graduating from CMU, she co-founded In the Basement Theater Company with 25 other CMU Alumni. The company earned a 3-month long residency at a 12-room former insane asylum basement turned Art venue called Arts @ Renaissance in Brooklyn. They installed and ran an immersive show called "The Lady in Red Converses with Diablo" which took 15 audience members through an original myth told in personal one-on-one experiences, song and dance. The members of the collective still work together independently to this day, creating original work in New York City.
