Black Panther: Wakanda Forever finally brought Namor the Submariner into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the character underwent some significant changes, with Atlantis swapped out for Talokan and his origin story rooted in Mayan legend.
While not everyone was happy about that, it went a long way in helping to differentiate Namor from DC's Aquaman.
Thanks to Marvel Studios concept artist Phil Saunders (who has spent the past year working on Disney's Tron: Ares), we have a new look at some sequences which didn't make it into the Black Panther sequel's final cut.
That includes a clash between Ironheart and Namora. "The script originally called for an extended battle between [Riri Williams] and [Namora] that would have taken them underwater," Saunders says. "It was inevitably cut to keep the focus on [Shuri] and [Namor], but gave me the opportunity to paint some dynamic shots."
We also see Namor riding an Orca into battle, an...

“The primary thing when I talked to Donald Glover at the start of this was, he said that the show is about trust,” reveals”Mr. and Mrs. Smith” composer David Fleming. For our recent webchat he adds, “trusting your professional partner, trusting your romantic partner; it really was trying to tell those two stories, of their relationship as spies and their blossoming romance as one story and the music had to serve both purposes.” We talked with Fleming as part of Gold Derby’s special “Meet the Experts” Q&a event with 2024 awards contenders. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Exclusive: Michaela Coel is no longer developing a series with links to her smash BBC/HBO hit I May Destroy You.
Three years ago, then-BBC drama director Piers Wenger revealed that Coel was working on a show that had links to the I May Destroy You universe. “It’s at relatively early stages, but I wanted to let the fans of I May Destroy You know that there is a new show coming along,” Wenger said at the time.
But speaking to Deadline last week, I May Destroy You EP Phil Clarke said Coel had toyed with various ideas for what was loosely termed “I May Destroy You 2,” before deciding against going further. Coel has previously ruled out a second series of I May Destroy You in the traditional sense.
“When Piers went public, we were all talking about it,” said Clarke. “Those were Michaela’s thoughts as well.

“Baby Reindeer” has quickly become a cultural juggernaut, with viewers swarming to watch this Netflix limited series written and created by Richard Gadd, who also stars. He adapted his Olivier Award-winning play about his years as a struggling comedian when he was stalked and harassed by a woman, played the fabulous Jessica Gunning. The show also depicts his abuse at the hands of an older man who first acted as a mentor. The series is a tough watch at times but always a gripping one. It’s searing television and, as a result, “Baby Reindeer” is one of the most acclaimed shows of the year.
Aramide Tinubu (Variety) declared: “Shocking, hilarious, painful, and devastating, ‘Baby Reindeer’ is a rare gem on television, reminding us of what is possible in the medium.”

Netflix’s new black dramedy continues to reign supreme in the platform’s global chart, even though it was aired almost a month ago. Baby Reindeer, following Richard Gadd's real-life experience of being stalked and sexually assaulted in his twenties, gained recognition for artful and razor-sharp exploration of the socially painful issues.
However, 4 years ago HBO already released the miniseries, quite reminiscent of Baby Reindeer. Its decent score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes and the audience’s extreme excitement are fair reasons to recall it and to compare it to the recently hyped show.
The plot of the 2020 series revolves around the young writer Arabella, who gets sexually assaulted in a nightclub. After such a devastating incident she starts to reassess all aspects of her life, including her family, career and relationships, to rebuild them.
Just like Richard Gadd's show, it blends dark humor and deep drama, demonstrating the traumatic experience of the assaulted people.

In the canon of unexpected streaming successes, Netflix‘s Baby Reindeer looms large as a particularly unlikely hit.
The seven-episode British series, created by and starring comedian Richard Gadd has taken the media world by storm. Per Netflix’s metrics, Baby Reindeer is on its way to becoming one of the most-watched shows in the streamer’s history. Audiences remain captivated by Gadd’s depiction of real life events – perhaps too captivated, as the internet continues its attempts to dox every actual person involved (Note: Stop doing that!)
Still, it’s not hard to see why Baby Reindeer has invoked such a passionate reaction in viewers. The story is an intensely personal one for Gadd and oftentimes, the more personal something is, the more universal its appeal becomes. Not everyone can directly relate to Gadd’s traumatic experience of being stalked, but everyone knows what pain, confusion, and fear looks like.

Without a star cast or a mind-blowing synopsis, Baby Reindeer has become a smash hit on Netflix, and deservedly so. It is a rare combination of a gripping plot, as well as psychological depth and authenticity: the main character’s self-revealing monologues make you feel not only sympathy and compassion for him, but also a whole range of contradictory emotions.
Baby Reindeer Is a Heartbreakingly Realistic Story
Actor and screenwriter Richard Gadd based this series on two of his confessional one-man shows, repeating the exact same path that Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Michaela Coel had taken before – from monologues at the Edinburgh Festival to worldwide TV fame in the form of Fleabag and I May Destroy You series respectively. All three based their explicit scripts on real-life traumatic experiences.
In theory, the same technique should be tiresome the third time around, but Gadd still manages to produce a refreshing effect. The...

There are few shows on television quite like “Baby Reindeer.” The fact that Richard Gadd’s dramatic miniseries dropped on Netflix with little to no promotion makes it feel even more distinct.
Based on Gadd’s autobiographical one-man show of the same name, the seven-episode series follows Donny Dunn, an aspiring standup comedian and current bartender who makes the grave mistake of offering a woman a cup of tea on the house. That nice gesture upends his world, as “Baby Reindeer” chronicles one woman’s growing obsession with him, the complexities of both having a stalker and being flattered by her attention, and how Donny’s view of himself came to be so low. Both unflinchingly honest and at times bizarre, the series follows in the footsteps of art such as Michaela Coel’s “I May Destroy You,” Hannah Gadsby’s “Nannette” and Abby McEnany’s “Work in Progress.”

Peacock’s new limited series “Apples Never Fall” is cut from the same cloth as “Big Little Lies,” with both shows adapted from the novels of Australian author Liane Moriarty.
“Apples Never Fall” follows a family, led by four adult children, trying to piece together the mysterious disappearance of their mother Joy (Oscar-nominee Annette Bening). Bening is reliably excellent in this limited series, as is “Jurassic Park” star Sam Neil, who plays her on-screen husband. And Jake Lacy and Allison Brie shine as two of the four adult kids. All four performances have been praised by critics and its these turns that could lead the Emmy charge for the series.
Brian Lowry (CNN) stated: “As for the old expression ‘How do you like them apples?,’ in this case, happily, the answer is quite a lot.”

In his seven-part Netflix miniseries, “Baby Reindeer,” adapted from his one-man show, Scottish writer and comedian Richard Gadd recounts the true story of being harassed and stalked for years. Compelling and unsettling, Gadd, who portrays Donny Dunn, the fictionalized version of himself, transports the audience to one of the most painful periods of his life. The series untangles the nuances of his emotions, his stalker’s temperament and past incidents that fortified his frame of mind at the time. Shocking, hilarious, painful and devastating, “Baby Reindeer” is a rare gem on television, reminding us of what is possible in the medium.
“Baby Reindeer” opens as Donny walks into a London police station. Frazzled and exhausted, he explains that an unstable woman has been stalking him for months. Unfortunately, despite his evident anxiety, the police officer doesn’t have any real solutions for him. As the story rewinds six months, viewers...

“The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart” features a powerhouse performance from veteran star Sigourney Weaver, who once again reminds us that she is one of the best in the business. The acclaimed Amazon Prime Video limited series follows a young girl who survives a violent upbringing and is then subsequently raised on a flower farm by her grandmother. Weaver plays the grandmother, June, and ties the entire series together with the sheer might of her performance. She propelled the story to greatness and, as a result, propelled the series to excellent reviews.
Robert Lloyd (Los Angeles Times) opined: “The series, which is sensitively written, expertly performed by actors young and old, and beautifully shot, is in no rush to give up its mysteries, and by drawing out the drama, what’s obvious in the story comes off as proportionally more subtle.”

Amazon Prime Video’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” is taking this Emmy race seriously.
With stars Donald Glover and Maya Erskine leading the charge, “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” which draws inspiration from the 2005 movie featuring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, is set to compete in the drama categories at this year’s awards ceremony.
Crafted by Glover and Francesca Sloane, the show’s debut season stretches across eight episodes, centering on John and Jane Smith, secret agents who pose as a married couple while working for a shadowy corporation. Its blend of comedy and drama offered the potential to categorize it in either genre for awards consideration.

Yet it’s her father’s boss Mr. Konig (Dan Stevens) and his obsession with Gretchen’s mute half-sister Alma (Mila Lieu) that unlocks a larger, more sinister presence at the resort. Five months before Paapa Essiedu took the stage as a flirty clinical-trial participant in The Effect, he attempted to run a half marathon in southwest England. After going “too high and too fast,” Essiedu says he collapsed due to extreme hydration and low blood sugar levels. He remembers waking up in the hospital, his legs in extreme pain, in a post-traumatic amnesia state.
Essiedu found a way to use that half-marathon black-out, reenacting his confused state before a live audience six days a week during a recent run of Lucy Prebble’s critically acclaimed play,...

Sofia Vergara is back on our small screens in a big way thanks to the her new Netflix series “Griselda.” The lavish production chronicles the rise of Griselda Blanco, known as the “cocaine Godmother,” as she flees from Medellín, Colombia, to Miami and creates one of the most notorious cartels in history.
Vergara gives her best performance in years as the ruthless, demanding, and brutal Griselda. She owns every scene she’s in and eats up not just the scenery but the entire cast, too. She commands every moment and delivers a complex portrait of a powerful woman, with critics agreeing Vergara is at the top of her game.
Barry Levitt (Empire) observed: “‘Griselda’ has given Vergara the chance to prove that she’s also a gifted dramatic actor — a challenge she more than rises to. Vergara (who also serves as executive producer) practically dissolves into the role, delivering an astonishing performance…...

Forget “Saltburn” – now, it’s up to BBC Three’s series “Boarders” to take an honest look at Britain’s most exclusive private schools.
“You hear so many horror stories about these places, but it’s a rite of passage. So many of our PMs and people of power went there. I think there is something called ‘boarding school syndrome’ when you deal with politicians who exhibit complete lack of compassion. That’s what they learnt there,” explains Daniel Lawrence Taylor, who created the show.
His actor, Josh Tedeku, agrees.
“I went to Oxford recently and there is a similar vibe. My friend would say: ‘This is where Boris Johnson went, this is where Rishi Sunak went.’ You start to understand why they are all so loopy.”
“I loved the place, they shot ‘Harry Potter’ there and I was just nerding out. Then, I met someone who watched ‘Boarders’ and...

The sci-fi dystopia series is arguably one of the most critically acclaimed anthologies in television history. And Netflix has recently announced that the show is coming back with its newest season.

What’s even more exciting is the streaming service also let the fans know that there will be a sequel for one of the series’ best episodes from its last season. The USS Callister episode will finally be getting a sequel, which only means more thrill and fascination.

Season seven of Netflix’s critically acclaimed anthology series Black Mirror will make a return trip to the world of the USS Callister. The popular Star Trek-inspired season four episode starred Jesse Plemons as Capt. Robert Daly, Cristin Milioti as Nanette Cole, Jimmi Simpson as Walton, Michaela Coel as Shania, and Billy Magnussen as Valdack.
“Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning,” teases Netflix.
Production is currently underway on the seventh season, with the streamer targeting a 2025 premiere. Series creator Charlie Brooker returns as writer and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Jessica Rhoades and Annabel Jones.
Season seven will consist of six new episodes, including the USS Callister sequel. Brooker’s keeping episode details – including casts and storylines – for the other five episodes under wraps for now.

There is good news for fans of Charlie Brooker's dark, satirical anthology series Black Mirror. While we still have a wait ahead of us, we now know that Season 7 of the show will debut in 2025, including a sequel to classic Star Trek-nudging ep USS Callister. Check out the sizzle teaser for the season below…
This being Brooker and Black Mirror, there are naturally very few details to be gleaned at this point. All we really know about the seventh season is that it'll have six standalone episodes and shooting is already underway.
The only episode confirmed is, as mentioned above, a follow-up to popular Season 4 entry USS Callister. The original starred Jesse Plemons, Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson, Michaela Coel and Billy Magnussen in the story of Robert Daly (Plemons), a genius, egotistical game company guru who gets frustrated at a perceived lack of recognition. TV's most shocking, confounding, and oftentimes divisive show is coming back for more with its highly-anticipated seventh season ... but, as befits this franchise, there's an additional twist. There's nothing this particular fanbase loves more than to debate the absolute best and worst episodes of the anthology series. "San Junipero" and "Bandersnatch" are commonly cited near the top of most lists, but the acclaimed "USS Callister" might very well be in a league all by itself. The season 4 premiere has taken on a life of its own in the years since its debut, boasting a strong cast, a mind-bending premise, and arguably one of the best "Star Trek" homages/satires in all of sci-fi. Well, viewers can now look forward to a sequel of sorts, which will presumably bring back the original cast of the episode for yet another virtual-reality adventure.

Black Mirror Season 7 arrives in 2025 with six twisted episodes, including a sequel to USS Callister
Back in November, we heard that the Netflix streaming service had ordered a seventh season of the anthology series Black Mirror – and now Netflix has unveiled a video in which they have confirmed that Black Mirror season 7 will be released sometime in 2025! You can watch the announcement video in the embed above.
Black Mirror season 7 will consist of six episodes, one of which will be a sequel to the popular season 4 episode USS Callister! We even have a short synopsis for that one: “Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning.“
There was a rumor floating around a couple months ago that USS Callister would be getting its own three episode spin-off series. That has never been confirmed, but at least now we know for sure that there’s going to be some USS Callister action in the new season of Black Mirror.

“Black Mirror” is set to return to Netflix in 2025. The six-episode seventh season will include a sequel to the classic “USS Callister” episode.
“Robert Daly is dead, but for the crew of the USS Callister, their problems are just beginning,” the Charlie Brooker anthology series teased on Thursday.
Jesse Plemons played Daly. Cristin Milioti (as Nanette Cole), Jimmi Simpson (as Walton), Michaela Coel (as Shania), and Billy Magnussen (as Valdack) are among the very talented crew of the USS Callister. They have not been (officially) announced for the sequel episodes, though the new episode’s logline sure suggests they’ll be back. “USS Callister” (2017) also features the voice of Aaron Paul (as Gamer691) and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it uncredited cameo by Kirsten Dunst, who was just some random Callister employee.
Little else is currently known about “Black Mirror” Season 7.

Black Mirror is returning to the USS Callister, the setting of one of its most highly-regarded episodes.

The Emmy-winning instalment was penned by Brooker and directed by Toby Haynes and followed Daly (Plemons), a reclusive but gifted programer and co-founder of a popular massively multiplayer online game who is bitter over the lack of recognition of his position from his coworkers. Despite there being far too many firsts still left to achieve, Black creators have indelibly left their mark on the television landscape for decades.
Just think of names like Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Lee Daniels (“Empire”), and Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), whose series went on to become credited for reviving network television, or writers like Issa Rae (“Insecure”), Donald Glover (“Atlanta”), and Lena Waithe (“The Chi”), who have been able to build their own sort of TV empire with the shows they have written and/or produced.
Even networks like BET, Starz, and MTV still run off of the creative ingenuity of executive producers like Tyler Perry (“Sistas”), Courtney A. Kemp (“Power”), Mona Scott-Young (“Love and Hip Hop”), and even RuPaul (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”).
Often when retelling the story of Black representation on television, there is first acknowledgment of how the writers rooms initially were not reflective of what their casts looked like.

Exclusive: Mr. & Mrs. Smith is off to a promising start at Amazon.
The eight-episode series debuted on February 2 to become the No. 1 series on Prime Video in more than 130 countries. It is now one of the Top 5 new series debuts ever for Amazon in terms of total viewers in the U.S.
Amazon, as is typical, remains tight-lipped about the exact viewership data. Next month, there will likely be more numbers available via Nielsen’s streaming charts.
It is also noteworthy that Amazon is specifically touting U.S. viewership, since that is the audience that Nielsen measures. In the past, the streamer has often opted to promote global viewership, which is much harder to quantify without proprietary data from the company itself.
Because of this, it’s expected that the series will make an appearance on those charts, especially because all eight episodes were released at once, which gives it...

When Donald Glover was first approached about the possibility of remaking Mr. & Mrs. Smith, he wasn’t exactly enthused.
“I don’t really do remakes,” he told his buddy, an exec at New Regency, which produced the 2005 original starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as married spies. Of course, he’d never actually seen the film, just the tabloid saga surrounding its stars, who’d later wed. In fact, Glover’s still convinced that was key to the project’s appeal. “When people are like, ‘I love this movie,’ I’m like, ‘What did you like?’ Not to say that the movie’s necessarily bad,” he says, “but I think it just had to do with the chemistry and what was happening between them.”
Donald Glover and Maya Erskine were photographed Jan. 29 at the Georgia Room in New York City.
Glover did eventually watch Mr. & Mrs. Smith, mostly out of curiosity.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith definitely didn’t surpass expectations, it mostly left us with question marks for expressions because of how lackluster the show really was. I suppose you could say there are some good parts; you’ve got beautiful sets and some fun fashion choices, but most importantly, a bunch of cameos that are meant to enhance the show considering how dull it is otherwise. Not to say that Donald Glover and Maya Erskine are incapable of holding our attention, but it’s probably a mix of the writing and the pacing of this show that had me completely bored by the end of it. And, no, even these incredible special appearances did not pique my interest in any way. However, they do add a little bit of fun, even if briefly, to the mostly tedious show. Mr. & Mrs. Smith follows spies in this new spyverse, where there is...

As a followup to Atlanta and Swarm, Donald Glover adapting Doug Liman’s entertaining 2005 spy caper Mr. and Mrs. Smith for a television format is an unlikely choice. That said, there’s a certain timeliness to the premise of a married spy couple trying to survive missions and each other, ideally suited for every generation.
This iteration, created by Glover and Francesca Sloane, is a strictly millennial-geared update with a progressive heart and more romantic soul to round out its stealthy concept. Whereas this Glover and Maya Erskine-starring update likely won’t spur a pop culture impact as significant as the formerly-renowned Brangelina film did, Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a sizably entertaining and meditative spy thriller fit for a millennial demographic.
Set in bustling NYC, two stranger spies, John (Glover) and Jane Smith (Erskine), are interviewed for a potential spy gig by a mysterious agency they only speak to via texts.

Plot: Two lonely strangers land jobs working for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travel, and a dream brownstone in Manhattan. The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now hitched, John and Jane navigate a high-risk mission every week while also facing a new relationship milestone. Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they catch real feelings for each other. What’s riskier: espionage or marriage?
Review: The 2005 film, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, was one of the top-grossing films of the year despite mixed reviews. Written by Simon Kinberg and directed by Doug Liman, the movie was bolstered by the real-life romance between stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. The tabloid fodder of that relationship was free marketing for the film which was a mediocre action comedy about a married couple...

Playing a long-married couple in Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Parker Posey and Wagner Moura are twinned forces of nature. They’re weird, they’re obnoxious, they’re so cheerful they’re borderline terrifying, and so obviously wild about each other they’re almost endearing. Whenever they’re onscreen, the entire show seems to sit up and hold its breath, eagerly aware that anything might happen in their presence.
Alas, they’re also guest stars. The couple actually at the center of the Prime Video comedy are the rather more sedate John (Donald Glover) and Jane (Maya Erskine). Mr. & Mrs. Smith has its delights, with a plot that sends the duo on glamorous top-secret missions to one picturesque location after another. But it’s all built on the wobbly foundation of a romance that’s more interesting in theory than in practice.

At one point in Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, John and Jane Smith (Donald Glover and Maya Erskine) become infatuated with another couple. Like them, the pair are part of an espionage program in which agents operate undercover as a married couple. Only these other Smiths seem so much more experienced and self-assured. There’s a movie-star swagger to them as they talk casually about the level of danger they’ve faced and their flawless mission record. It’s enough to make John and Jane, relative newbies in the field, feel inadequate.
Glover and Francesca Sloane might have felt a similar insecurity when they were asked to create a series based on Doug Liman’s 2005 box office hit starring two of the biggest movie stars on the planet, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, whose real-life love affair only ensured the film’s pop-cultural impact. But while Glover and Erskine might...

Even by the standards of a Hollywood ecosystem where everything is IP, and IP is everything, the idea of adapting a TV show from Mr. & Mrs. Smith seemed odd. The 2005 action-comedy exists in the pop-culture memory less as a movie (though it’s excellent) than as the origin story of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s relationship. Remaking it without them would be like rebooting Top Gun without Tom Cruise,...
