Zack Snyder’s Dceu failed due to its darker tone, inconsistent storytelling, and divisive creative choices until it was ultimately replaced by Gunn’s & Safran’s Dcu. While some appreciated his vision, others found it too grim and disconnected from the iconic characters. Still, despite Dceu being mostly bad, according to general consensus it did give rise to some of the most popular superhero movies in the last few years.
Notably, ‘Wonder Woman,’ was a massive hit and opened a lot of possibilities for the character in the Dceu, soon after, the sequel followed, and released during Covid-19 it still managed to be somewhat successful but nowhere near the first installment.
Still, Snyder originally had very different plans for the ‘Wonder Woman’ movie, in a project dubbed ‘Wonder Woman 1854.’ In an interview with Empire Magazine to promote his upcoming film, ‘Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scavenger,’ the director also opened...

Jennifer Garner was known for portraying the superhero Elektra in both Daredevil and her titular film. But before she nabbed the role, Stana Katic had her eyes set on the character as well.

Katic is no stranger to superhero projects. She’s voiced some of comic books’ most iconic characters across a few forms of media. This included playing Talia Al Ghul in the video game Batman: Arkham City, and Wonder Woman in the animated film Justice Society: World War II. She even felt her character in Castle, Kate Beckett, was a superhero in her own right.
“I think she’s like a female superhero on television, and we’re slowly exploring more and more of that,” Katic once told Collider. “She’s got a tremendous amount of integrity. I’ve gotten to do more stunts lately, which is really cool.

Batman Beyond successfully builds upon Batman: The Animated Series while standing on its own in the DC Animated Universe. The show moves into the future without losing its creative edge.
A still from Batman Beyond
But fans of the acclaimed animated series might be surprised to learn that the iconic villain, Mr. Freeze, almost had a very different depiction than the one showed in the series.
While the episode featuring Freeze, Heart of Ice, went on to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing, the initial plan for the character in Batman Beyond could have deviated from that well-established legacy.
Batman Beyond‘s Mr. Freeze Arc Could Have Taken a Wrong Turn
According to the initial script of Batman Beyond, Terry McGinnis (the new Batman), would have stumbled upon a gruesome scene while grabbing a drink from the Batcave refrigerator: the severed head of Mr. Freeze.

There is almost no one in the world who doesn’t know Superman – one of the most iconic characters in the history of not just comic books, but media in general. Superman began as one of several anthology features in the National Periodical Publications’ comic book Action Comics #1 in June 1938 and in no time, became an iconic character. Interestingly enough, Christopher Reeve was recently featured in an epic DC fan art.

Wonder Woman has the distinction of being one of the better film series in the Dceu, which ultimately collapsed and is awaiting its reboot at the hands of James Gunn. Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot were able to craft a stunning narrative, one that talked about themes of war and peace, that painted humanity in a fundamentally flawed light.
Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman
However, despite the praises that were heaped on the film, one pivotal scene in the movie undoes the themes and the motifs that the film sets up, destroying what the film was trying to say. Wonder Woman as a film lays all the blame for the war at the feet of the human race, waxing poetic about humanity’s capacity for inflicting suffering. However, one particular scene flips the script completely, changing what the film had set up all this time.

It was the year 2017, and fans of the Dceu finally had a movie that not only met expectations, but exceeded them. Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot, and directed by Patty Jenkins, became one of the best movies under the banner, and gained the highest score on Rotten Tomatoes, a feat it has maintained even today. It spawned a sequel – Wonder Woman 1984, but unfortunately, it failed to hold on to the success of its predecessor.

Patty Jenkins, who directed the two Wonder Woman movies in the Dceu, reveals one disappointing update for the fans who were thinking about the third installment in the film series. Meanwhile, she has confirmed that she’s back to working on Rogue Squadron now.

Patty Jenkins’ 2017 film starring Gal Gadot as the DC superhero Wonder Woman was a box office hit, prompting a sequel, which was released in 2020. However, the sequel could not perform as expected as the movie only managed to gross $166 million worldwide (per The Numbers) against a production budget of $200 million.

Jenkins is now shifting her focus to the starfighter-based film Rogue Squadron. But one thing is sure, Wonder Woman 3 is no longer taking flight.

Patty Jenkins is giving a promising update on her long-presumed-dead Star Wars movie Rogue Squadron.
The Wonder Woman director says she’s back in active development on the project and is working on a draft for Lucasfilm.
“When I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Well, maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3,'” she told the Talking Pictures Podcast. “So we started a deal for that to happen. So when Wonder Woman 3 went away, Lucasfilm and I were like, ‘Oh, we’ve got to finish this deal.’ We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning. So I now owe a draft of Star Wars. So we will see what happens there. Who knows? They have a hard job in front of them of, ‘What’s the first movie [since the sequel trilogy] they’re going to do?...

Patty Jenkins is still working on the screenplay for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. This is per her appearance on the TCM/Max podcast. Many assumed the project was dead and it’s not.
She was attached to the project in early December of 2020, where it was announced during Disney virtual investor day during Covid. Jenkins then stepped away to work on Wonder Woman 3, which was ultimately deep-sixed by new DC co-Bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Soon after Wonder Woman 3 blew up back in December 2022, Jenkins said in the press then that Lucasfilm and Disney made a new deal for her on Rogue Squadron, a project dear to her heart as she’s taking inspiration from her Air Force fighter pilot father Capt. Williams T. Jenkins who served during the Vietnam War.
We hear from sources that Rogue Squadron was never dead or re-ignited: it’s status quo as far as development is concerned.

Dwayne Johnson and John Cena’s rivalry started way back in 2011 when The Rock returned to WWE after a seven-year hiatus to host WrestleMania 27. Johnson made fun of Cena and his catchphrase “You Can’t See Me” during the event. Cena also later responded with hurtful remarks, which led to the duo booking a headline match at WrestleMania 28 almost a year before the event. During this period, Cena also started a rivalry with Cm Punk.

In Patty Jenkins' bonkers superhero sequel "Wonder Woman 1984," a smarmy yuppie named Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) has discovered an ancient wishing stone that can grant him one wish, but only in exchange for something valuable to him. Maxwell, rather than making a wish, gets clever, wishing to absorb the powers of the stone, and become a wishing object himself. When someone touches him and makes a wish, he has the power to grant it, but can now make vocal demands in exchange. He essentially wishes for more wishes.

Henry Cavill began his superhero career on screen as part of the most iconic trinity in comic books. Starring alongside Ben Aflleck’s Batman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Cavill’s Superman is a character that a lot of fans swear by even today, after the demise of the DC Extended Universe.
Henry Cavill as Superman
A new rumor suggests that Henry Cavill has signed a deal with Marvel, with the popular consensus being that it will be for the role of Captain Britain. With Reed Richards also coming to the MCU, and Thor looking for a revamp, it seems that a new multiversal trinity could be making its debut ahead of Avengers: Secret Wars, one that has the multiversal might to fight Kang and his army of Variants. If the rumors regarding Captain Britain are true, Henry Cavill could find himself at the center of another iconic superhero trinity.

Killers of the Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone has opened up about how using she/they pronouns is connected to the performer’s Indigenous background and “partly a way of decolonizing gender.”
In a new interview with People, Gladstone — who was raised on the Blackfeet Nation reservation in Montana by a father of Blackfeet and Nimiipuu heritage and a white mother — says that “in most Native languages, most Indigenous languages, Blackfeet included, there are no gendered pronouns. For more than a decade, there seemed to be three absolutes in Hollywood: death, taxes, and superhero movies doing big business. The genre of capes and cowls looked as invincible as many of its protagonists, soaring above the rest of the industry’s slings and arrows, and always landing on its feet in a heroic pose. This status quo arguably goes back nearly a quarter century, to when Hugh Jackman first donned a pair of claws and Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire made you believe a boy could swing.
Still, for most moviegoers, the genre has long been synonymous with one production house: Marvel Studios, which for the last 15 years would at least hit a single when it went up to bat (albeit 2021’s The Eternals might have been more a walk to base). That perception changed dramatically in 2023, though, when not one, not two, not three, but six superhero movies underperformed or outright flopped,...

Hollywood stars are showing their support for Israel, after Hamas launched a surprise attack this past weekend, firing thousands of rockets from Gaza that have killed at least 900 people with more than 100 civilians kidnapped and held hostage.
The attack, which occurred early Saturday morning on Shabbat and coincided with the Jewish high holiday of Simchat Torah, is being called “Israel’s 9/11” and is the deadliest day in Israel in 50 years. Hamas’ attack included a massacre at a music festival where Israeli rescuers say they have found 260 bodies.
Not since the Holocaust have this many Jews been murdered in one single day. Nine American citizens are among the climbing death toll.
Over the weekend, President Joe Biden condemned the terrorist attack and supported Israel’s right to defend itself. “The United States unequivocally condemns this appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza, and I made clear to Prime Minister...

Elevator Game is the new film by Rebekah McKendry, a director who caught my attention with All the Creatures Were Stirring and impressed me with Glorious. On the other hand, she also has a writing credit on the dismal Bring It On: Cheer or Die. So I was a little apprehensive when she did another teen-themed film that not only shared a lot of that film’s cast but was based on an urban legend that’s about ten years past its expiration date.
However, it was an enjoyably creepy legend. I even got talked into playing it walking back to my hotel after several films and several beers at Sfff one year. Of course, nothing happened, but it was unnerving when the doors opened and I...

CAA Media Finance handled the deal for the film’s domestic rights. John Biondo oversaw on behalf of Lionsgate, with the pact finalized late Wednesday night as the TIFF festival and market gets underway. The movie is expected to release next year.

"The Nun" is just one of several spin-off franchises that have come out of "The Conjuring." The others are the "Anabelle" franchise and "The Curse of La Llorona." Gal Gadot will return as Wonder Woman. Or maybe… not? That’s what it felt like after the last week of whiplash-inducing headlines which involved the Israeli actress and her signature role as Diana of Themyscira. Infamously, the big screen future for the current lineup of DC actors started to crumble when Warner Bros. Pictures parted ways with writer-director Patty Jenkins, who helmed both Wonder Woman (2017) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020).
At the time, creative differences separating a director from producers was nothing new, although a bit eyebrow-raising since Jenkins shattered industry conventions when she became the first woman to direct a major superhero blockbuster hit. The bigger surprise, however, was the fact that Wonder Woman 3 was itself being put on pause, which is a polite term for being cast into the fires of development hell. Some incorrectly speculated new DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran were responsible, but this...

This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the movie being reviewed here wouldn't exist.
Though the summer of 2023 has long since become the summer of "Barbenheimer," it's also the summer offering the best action film of the year, "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One." The Tom Cruise-starring seventh entry in the "M:i" franchise is as propulsive and thrilling as any other of the series' installments, full of globe-trotting action, jaw-dropping stunts, unexpected twists, and a disturbingly relevant villain in the form of artificial intelligence. It is -- perhaps fittingly -- all but impossible to not think about the "Mission: Impossible" series, especially its most recent title, while watching the new Netflix actioner "Heart of Stone." No one from "Dead Reckoning" shows up here, but there is a distinct bargain-basement feel to "Heart of Stone...

“I have had it … with my children calling me because they need to talk through something or they need something, having a conversation with me only for me to find out at the end of the conversation that we...

The movie is based on the as-yet-unpublished novel by first-time novelist Elly Conway, with Apple reportedly paying $200 million for the rights. After a year-plus of tabloid headlines about its star Ezra Miller, Warner Bros./DC’s Covid-delayed $200M Justice League standalone superhero movie, The Flash, finally arrives in theaters. The global opening looks better than domestic, $155M-$165M global to a $70M+ in U.S./Canada.
Despite a very good response out of CinemaCon and DC co-boss James Gunn exclaiming that the pic is “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made,” along with reports on how the movie is set to reset the DC-verse, The Flash has been sitting around $70M-$75M on tracking for quite some time.
That’s a glass-half full type of start stateside especially in a marketplace that has been hot, and actually plans to remain hot. One box office source thinks that the total weekend gross for all movies could get to $200M. How’s that? There are two other wide releases aimed at...

Studios typically go to great lengths to ensure safety on their sets, but accidents do happen. It seems that there has been an accident during the production of Gladiator 2 in Morocco which has left six crew members with non-life-threatening burn injuries.
The Gladiator 2 accident took place on June 7th and involved a large explosion during the shooting of a planned stunt sequence. Deadline has heard that four of the six crew members who were injured are still in hospital, but that they are in stable condition as they receive treatment. The news was first reported by The Sun. We can only hope that those injured in the accident will fully recover.
