Joe Henderson, the showrunner on Lucifer, will set the course for Flight Of The Navigator remake
Joe Henderson, the showrunner on Fox’s TV series adaptation of DC/Vertigo comic’s Lucifer will write the upcoming Flight Of The Navigator remake. The reboot is being developed and produced by The Henson Co. for Lionsgate.
Flight Of The Navigator was, of course, a 1986 American sci fi adventure film from Producers Sales Organization (The Outsiders, The Neverending Story) and put out by Disney. It tells the story of 12-year-old David Scott Freeman, who gets knocked unconscious in the woods and wakes up eight years later the exact same age and with total amnesia about what happened in the warped time, while everyone else aged.
Nasa sees a connection between the kid and a UFO they recovered, but the kid uncovers an intergalactic mystery through telepathic contact with a being...

Latoya Luckett will play Warwick in the forthcoming film from the writer of The Doors.
Lady Gaga is to play Warwick’s rival and “musical nemesis” Cilla Black in an upcoming biopic of singer Dionne Warwick.
The Us singer-songwriter will play the late Liverpudlian performer in Dionne, it was announced at a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival today.
Mario van Peebles is in advanced discussions to direct and legendary singer Warwick was in town herself to tell the press that she will be played as a younger woman by Latoya Luckett - an original member of Destiny’s Child.
Other cast names confirmed include Danny Glover as Warwick’s father Mansell and Olympia Dukakis, who will co-star as Marlene Dietrich, Warwick’s mentor. Dietrich, the singer joked, was the woman who introduced her to high couture and made a hefty dent in her bank balance in the process.

In The Mirror (1971/2007). Photo by Sarah Cuono.1.Several of Chantal Akerman’s installation works are remediations of previous films. In the Mirror (1971/2007) consists of a scene from an early film (1971’s L’enfant aime – ou je joue a etre une femme mariee) in which a young woman stands naked in front of a mirror, examining her body feature by feature. The slab of grainy footage is the first thing one sees, entering the dark space of Ambika P3 gallery in London, currently hosting Now, a large exhibition of Akerman’s installation work. Below and to the right, sounds leak from the other exhibits and the question becomes–more or less instantly–at what point does one move away from the image that In the Mirror so candidly offers up? This question is never a problem in the cinema. Indeed, Akerman’s particular cinema is at its most effective when her...

Stream Market: The president of Awesomeness TV identified a section of the Millennial demographic as woefully underserved during a panel at the two-day digital conference on Thursday.
Speaking during a session dedicated to the making of his company’s 2014 social smash Expelled, Brett Bouttier explained how the film’s success was not entirely unexpected.
“There are very few films being made for teens,” said Bouttier, adding: “Digital has created a new TV for them.
“We knew there was that opening in the marketplace and we knew the stars had the ability to be the marketers and not just the stars.”
Expelled opened at number one on iTunes in December and stayed there for four weeks to keep the likes of rival new releases such as Guardians Of The Galaxy and The Equalizer at bay. The film drew approximately 15bn social impressions during active release.

The UK’s Sixteen Films is joining forces with French Le Pacte, German Pandora and Egyptian Film Clinic to co-produce Palestinian filmmaker’s Sameh Zoabi Gaza-set comedy Catch The Moon.
Described as a “dramatic comedy”, it revolves around a father and son’s attempts to a get a brand new Mercedes into Gaza during an Israeli blockade, after the father promises the son’s new bride the car as a gift.
Determined to keep the promise, the pair will go to any lengths to get the prestigious vehicle into the closed territory.
Jean Labadie’s Paris-based production and distribution house Le Pacte is also handling international sales.
Zoabi, whose credits include the comic Man Without a Cellphone, will direct the film from an original first screenplay by writer Anne Koski-Wood.

Nearly 20 years ago, paleontologist Peter Larson (center) discovered the most complete T-Rex to date. He nicknamed her Sue, then wound up in jail after a small battle with the government over the fossils. Now he's stopping by the AOL Build Series to talk about the film that's captured it all. Watch as he chats with filmmaker Todd Douglas Miller (left) and Huffington Post Science editor David Freeman about his new documentary, "Dinosaur 13."

Beijing-based Xing Xing Digital and Los Angeles production company Pelagius Entertainment are to partner on the feature animation Smart.
John A Davis will direct the film, which the parties claim is budgeted at $22m, from a screenplay by S D Katz and David Freeman.
Pre-production is scheduled to begin this month in Los Angeles. The bulk of animation production will be performed at Xing Xing’s studios in China in time for a 2016 international theatrical release.
Representatives described Smart as “a screwball, animated comedy about an emotional robot that forms an unlikely alliance with two abandoned pets to stop the nefarious plans of an evil toy manufacturer.”
“Chinese audiences have selectively enjoyed Hollywood animated movies,” said Xing Xing CEO Lifeng Wang. “We have learned from the failures and successes at the local box office and even without a North American release, the local box office can support appropriately priced animated movies that meet the high standards of international...

Colin Trevorrow‘s name has now become synonymous with the Star Wars brand, purely because he was rumored to be directing the next installment for, like, a week, and nobody really knew him before all that. The Safety Not Guaranteed director caused a bit of a stir when he announced that he was working on something for Disney, see, something from our childhood that he didn’t want to mess up. And though the internet pounced on that revelation and starting shouting “Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars” until it just became a blur of noise, it turned out the internet was wrong. Again.
But Trevorrow wasn’t making things up, at least, because he is working on something from our childhood, although I’m not sure that it’s definitely something we all love: Flight of the Navigator, anyone? Yes, Disney are reportedly remaking the 1986 film about a boy and his spacecraft,...

Return of the Living Dead, the Basket Case Trilogy… Second Sight now continue their current (and fantastic) trend of re-releasing 80s classics on Blu-ray with two family favourites – Short Circuit and Flight of the Navigator – that are, in my humble opinion, essential purchases for 80s movie fans. Even if you already own the DVDs!
Short Circuit
Stars: Ally Sheedy, Steve Guttenburg, Fisher Stevens, G.W. Bailey | Written by S.S. Wilson, Brent Maddock | Directed by John Badham
An experimental military robot escapes after being struck by lightening, giving it human intelligence. He escapes and finds a home with madcap Stephanie Speck (Sheedy), who believes he is an alien, but hot on his trail are scientists Newton Crosby (Guttenburg) and his assistant (Stevens), who must get to their creation before the army, who plan to put Number 5 out of service permanently.

Meeting Frank Pierson was intimidating, to put it mildly. I was sitting outside the old WGAw boardroom, waiting to find out whether I, as a runner-up, would be filling a seat. I don’t remember who ushered me inside, but I sure remember Frank. As President, he politely and courteously informed me that the Board had voted to have me fill the vacancy, then nodded his head at the one remaining seat, directly across from him. Frank had a regal bearing – my fellow screenwriter David Freeman called him “God’s idea of a writer.” The old boardroom had pictures of past presidents sitting behind the current one – among them, a photo of a younger Frank, from when he had first served in the position about a decade before (the only writer ever to have served non-consecutive terms). As if this were not enough to cow someone making their first appearance,...

With the day packed to the tee with seminars, group discussions and workshops, Day 2 at Ficci Frames was abuzz with activities. Here's an overview - Innovative ways to fund the entertainment business: There is no doubt that investments made in films can at times have phenomenal returns, but it is accompanied by a huge risk factor. This deters many financiers in today's era of economic flux. The seminar focussed on newer ways of gathering funds for the media and entertainment sector. A few interesting observations from the seminar were that banks weren't keen on setting up a panel that would evaluate the feasibility and potential of a creative project before investing in it. They would still bet on high profile stars as a security for getting their money back. Film-funds would be the best bet for someone planning to make a feature without the backing of the stars, but India...
